Why did Jesus say "I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God."?

And why did he drink the sour wine vinegar before his death on the cross? This part of the gospels has been confusing me lately and I have been struggling to understand what he meant

Matthew 26:29- 29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

Mark 14:25- 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

Luke 22:18- 18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

Dear friend in Christ, PLease do not be confused in any way,

To answer your question our beloved Jesus mentioned that he would not drink again the fruit of the vine to announce his coming death to the 12 apostles. Now Jesus son of GOD the messiah when on the cross, refused to drink the offered wine turned to vinegar as in Mat 27:34 ""They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink."" Our lord and savior Jesus did not drink but tasted it to fulfill the prophecy;

Psa 69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

Blessings and Welcome!

it’s a fulfillment of the prophets foretelling of Christ

“They gave me also gall for my meat; And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭69:21‬ ‭

“they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭27:34‬ ‭

what’s strange to me is they recognized it and still Wouldn’t repent and believe

“And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭15:36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

All
Of the stuff like that the y doesn’t make sense we can understand it when we realize the prophets were foretelling it and it was Now happening like for instance

“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: Let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

For dogs have compassed me: The assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: They pierced my hands and my feet. They part my garments among them, And cast lots upon my vesture.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭22:1, 7-8, 16, 18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

so all this stuff in the gospel is what they said coming to pass the promises God made happening finally

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭27:46‬ ‭

“All they that see me laugh me to scorn: They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: Let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.”

“And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭27:39, 41,

“They pierced my hands and my feet. They part my garments among them, And cast lots upon my vesture.”

“And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭27:35‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In the Old Testament psalms and prophets and the law it’s full of verses like that it’s meant to cl Vince people who had read this before so when it happened they would repent and believe him Jesus life and all he did and said is written thousands of years before he came into the world

when it happened ot was meant to fulfill what God had been promising the people , the idea is of God tells you something is going to happen a certain way and the. Later it happens like he said it , it’s meant to convince the person hat it’s true and they need to pay attention

Jesus fulfilled all Of those scriptures like drinking vinegar and having them cast lots for his garments while he hung upon the cross seeing it

psalm 22 is like we’re hearing what Jesus was thinking While he hung on the cross the agony and misery he felt the abandonment he felt but the entire old testsment is a witness of Jesus and the gospel like that

often things happen because God said this will happen and when it does believe “ so prophecy has a principle it’s God telling us what is going to happen before it does , so when it does we’ll believe

“Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭42:9‬ ‭

before Jesus was born of a virgin , God told them It would happen that way through the prophets

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

about 700 years later it happened when Jesus was born

“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭1:22-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the whole Bible is like that the Old Testament is foretelling the new and the new is the old coming to pass and foretelling what’s now ahead Gods doing the same thing now the New Testament tells us what’s coming some day so when it happens we’ll know and believe

God always says it first and makes it known and then it happens he said let there be light , and then Light shines out of darkness

He said “ a son will be born of a virgin and he shall be called God with us “ and then he was born later and manifest as God with us

my point is that if you want to understand the Bible better , it is designed for the prophets writings tomlewd us to understanding the gospel , and the gospel is designed to help us grasp the Old Testament

it sort of works together like a vague witness and foretelling first and the. Manifestation of what he said comes later to pass the understanding of the gospel is rich in the prophets d the prophets are rich in thoer wot eases of Jesus Christ they were always waking things about Jesus and the gospel it’s just hidden until we see the light of the gospel

Good luck In Your studies prayer helps understanding a lot

I think he said he would done with them again until they all dined together in the kingdom is just Jesus saying this is our last meal together for now but We’ll be together again[/QUOTE]

Wine is associated with joyous celebration. We shall participate in a wonderful wedding feast when we get to Heaven.

''what’s strange to me is they recognized it and still Wouldn’t repent and believe.''

They had the mind of the natural man unable to understand the things of the spirit.
1 Corinthians 2:14
But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

yep I agree plus God purposely blinded them and they had to reject Jesus for Gods plan to work for him to be crucified

it’s just odd at a human level to know you read something for your whole life as the Israelites did and then see it happening yet still don’t believe it’s strange how we do that even faced with overwhelming convincing proof we still tend to want proof

The dragon of the ot actually cloaks the gospel but it’s there throughout the law was like a shadow covering thier eyes so they never heard what’s there about Jesus

This relates to what your saying

“Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: and not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: but their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament;

which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:12-

it’s not until the spirit comes that the veil is lifted

“Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭

the only person in the gospel to have the Holy Spirit before Jesus is John the Baptist , Jesus later gave the spirit to his disciples which is how the epistles came about

they saw Jesus and believed but like them Paul was first blind to him and later he was made blind , so he could see clearly and receive his true sight and see Jesus for who he is

thier blindness was there to bring about the rejection and crucifixion of Christ he could be sent to all nations and be the salvation of all who believe

I was just meaning to say on a human level it’s strange why we are like that , it’s really hard for us to believe even when there are stark proofs like foretelling an event a thousand years before in detail and then having it come to moss exactly as it was said that it would be that’s convincing but we tend to overlook it and want proof like that man who said “ let’s give him vinegar like the scriptures said and see what happens See if he’s true “

but Jesus had raised the dead , healed the sick , driven out demons converted sinners spoke ton e me and it ceased spoke to the waves and they calmed

but “let’s see what happens if we give him vinegar and fulfill the scriptire ?!”

it’s just strange how much it takes sometimes to convince mankind of things we can’t see and didn’t know beforehand

The scriptire speaks of Jesus birth , baptism , his chosen disciples and apostles , it speaks of his authority and doctrine hate requires of God , it says he would receive the holy spirit and God would speak “ Thou art my son amkng the people from heaven “

he would speak all Of Gods requirements for life , he would heal the sick raise the dead free the captives he would suffer and die for sin and be raised to life , he would be taken into heaven and reside at the right hand of God

the Old Testament tells these thkngs in detail it’s strange when they were happening everyone wanted more proof is what I was meaning to say just an odd thing in my mind

What surprised me was given the history of slavery and persecution the Jews suffered to that point due to turning from God, there they were calling for Rome to kill their prophesied Messiah.

Even though they didn't believe he was that, it would have been impossible for the stories of just his miracles alone happening among them to not reach the temple elders or the people.

And still they went one step further and against Jesus. Even if their natural minds hardness was of God and his will so to fulfill the promise, why ask for more work far into the future?

Pilate Washes His Hands
(Mark 15:12–15)

24When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but that instead a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,c” he said. “You bear the responsibility.”

25All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”

26So Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.

amen it’s quite astounding how it unfolded. In the end it. BRings Jews and gentiles together bekng responsible for Christs death the Roman gentiles carried out the crucifixion , but it was the Will
Of the Jews that caused it to happen

In the end it was the design of God to fulfill Israel's covenant curse and the destruction of Jerusalem and desolation of its temple the center of their worship , and create a new people from among both Jew and gentile offering them the eternal covenant of Abraham wrotten for all nations

the Bible seems progressive it sort of unfolds through the pages of time israel wasn’t blinded because tha the what zoos wanted but. Because they rejected and defiled his words on the law , he blinded them

Thier blindness had an expiration

“And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭6:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

this was Gods consequence of his covenant if they broke it and served other gods like they did for generations he would blind them and choose other people and later would bring thier sight back

we have in e Bible evidence of this happening or at least beginning to happen paul the Pharisee was blind but converted and had his eyes opened , many of the Jews who had been guilty of the crucifixion repented later and got baptized

thier blindness was necassary or Jesus couldn’t have been rejected by then and sent to all the world from the remnant who accepted him Gods plans always happen but many times the way they happen is beyond us like what your saying it seems astounding it would happen that way but it’s always what he was preparing them for and warning them about through the law and prophets

all along he was telling them but all along they couldnt hear or see what he was saying about the future messiah and his covenant of they had received Jesus as king and honored him , they would t have accused him and Rome wouldn’t have crucified him , and Israel’s desolation wouldnt have happened and the gospel couldn’t have been sent to gentiles as well as Jew in the world

Gods plans are just amazing how tiny details from the ot shape and guide what happened on the new hosnplans and ways are truly above and beyond us but he has shown us these thkngs in the gospel
