A real simple answer is because satan has power on earth right now.

John 12:31 Now is the judgement of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

The world has evil in it because the prince of this world is evil, but his time is only temporary, and him and all his evil ways will be gone. If it even lasts a thousand more years, that's only a blink of an eye compared to eternity.

It is evil because men have yet to put away childish things. There are again 18 million homes empty and 3 million homeless. How long will we continue to blame "Satan" for things we could change ourselves? No. "We" are the only "Satan" I see preventing us from our inheritance.

Here is a link to a sermon by John MacArthur answering this question.You can watch the video/listen to the audio or read the transcript.

Why Does Evil Dominate the World?
[h=3]The Parable of the Tenants[/h]33 “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.
35 “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. 36 Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way.37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
38 “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill himand take his inheritance.’ 39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”
41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”

Matthew 4:8

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.

In order for satan to be showing off his works to Christ, and which means that satan must reign over us; and to the ones that God has given the world to has let satan become our ruler. so when we speak, think, or do negative things; we are just doing what our king ( satan) want us to do. And now God is coming to set things right. The world belong to Him and to those that He rules over.

As repugnant and vexing as evil is, frankly, it's pretty easy to be wicked because we are, after all, flesh and carnal-minded. Welcome to Humanity 101.

It takes conviction; it takes a lifetime willingness to submit to God, to learn to trust as a child would, and it takes the power of the Holy Spirit to bring moral sanity to our distorted, carnal minds.

Since the fall of Adam, evil has dominated upon Earth because all humans have been born from the flesh, with the capacity to pervert themselves and pervert others. But the day is coming when all this decadence will be completely up-rooted and burned into annihilation, and the ransomed of the Lord shall sing "Hallelujah!"

Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the World, Say you to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your salvation comes; behold His reward is with Him, and His work before Him. And they shall call them, The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord... (Isaiah 62:11-12).

What would the world be like if Satan the Devil ruled it??? 1 John 5:19; John 12:31; John 14:30;

Exactly like it is. His influence is seen worldwide. In a civilized country why is there so much greed, corruption, racism, hatred or all sorts, murder, inequities...

Like followers of Christ display his qualities, followers of Satan display his qualities (Some Christians are unaware they spend most of their time displaying Satan's qualities)

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

The Fall rendered mankind subject to selfish and carnal passions thus man is inherently wicked and under the influence of the god of this world whereas God is good. However, when the goodness of God illuminate the heart of man and liberate them from spiritual darkness only then can goodness (righteousness) flow. Even though Satan is ruling the unbelieving world and blinding the minds of people, God is still sovereign over the world and Satan. In fact, Satan can only do what God permits him to do.

1 Cor 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Eph 2:1-3
1. And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2. Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3. Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
