Why does God take so long to answer prayers?

God desires to spend time with you in prayer and fellowship. If the only time you ever go to the Lord is when you are desperate then you are motivating God to keep you in that desperate state. If you spend time in fellowship and prayer everyday then God has no reason to want you to be in a desperate situation. That is part of the problem. Here is the second part, we need to pray according to God’s will. Many of our prayers are fleshly and foolish. The safest way to pray is to pray God’s word. If you do that every day you will be in tune with God’s will. That is two thirds of the problem, but then the final piece is this. We need to have our spirit tuned to hear the Lord. Once we have the assurance that the Lord has heard our prayer then it is time to praise Him. Nothing glorifies the Lord like His children walking in faith, and faith that once the Lord has said a word that is it, it will be done, amen. The best way to tune your spirit to hear the Lord is to spend time every day in fellowship with Him. The Bible says to pray unceasingly! You don’t have to say your prayers out loud, God knows your heart. This means you are walking in an attitude of prayer all the day long. The easiest way to do this when you are a new believer is to spend time in the word. As you read the bible and meditate on it you are being adjusted to have an attitude of prayer. This will fill you with faith like filling flat tire with air. Then it is easy to praise and worship the lord as you can easily drive over little bumps in the road. If you do this you will see your prayers answered much quicker.

I heard it is because he likes you to keep searching him out over and over.

There are several examples of the Lord searching out people who came to Him with a request during the gospels, but the Lord answered their prayers in a matter of minutes. He doesn't need to take months and years to "search out someone".

Now you can argue that with Peter the process of restoring Peter after he denied the Lord took longer, but a couple of months and he is back taking the lead.

What about Jospeh?

Joseph came to realize that the reason he had been sold as a slave and wound up in prison was because God wanted to save people alive. He was fine with that and did not hold it against his brothers.

But from his slavery at 17 to full filling God's dream for him, I believe was 13 years.

This is apples and oranges. The topic is about why God doesn't answer your questions and now you are talking about a vision for Joseph's life that he got when God gave him a dream. This was the path he needed to take. Those thirteen years were for training and a priest is not ready to serve until he is 30.

So what is the answer if we already pray and read the bible? I suppose fasting, anything else?

If you are praying according to the Lord's will prayers are answered quickly. The hold up is a lack of faith or a lack of fellowship with the Lord.

When you spend time in fellowship with the Lord in the word it is like the oblations that cleanse the priest.

If you are spending time with the Lord and praying according to the Lord's will, then it is simply a matter of faith. Think about what the Lord's mother said "whatever he says to you do it" or the Centurion "just say the word"
