If there was no Hell, you would be exactly right to question whether some would have a reason to turn from evil, but the question at this point is moot, because Hell exists. While many are grateful to God for making a way of escape from Hell, through Jesus Christ, there are even more who turn from evil and repent simply because they believe there is a Heaven, are grateful for God's forgiveness of sin, and who hope to spend eternity with God.
We also have to make a distinction at this point between man's definition of good and God's definition. Man's concept of good and God's understanding of good, are not the same. For man, good is a reasonable adherence to a moral code, while for God, goodness is only acheived by repenting of sin, and believing in His Son. The difference is, man lacks the ability to achieve perfect righteousness or perfect goodness, but because Jesus was without sin, those who receive him take upon themselves His righteousness, no longer having any need to develop a righteousness of their own.

Evil exists in the world because aliens from long ago were frozen into giant blocks of ice. Then, they were transported to Hawaii and dropped into volcanoes. Now they exist in the air and cause negative feelings, emotions and acts in human beings. Oh wait....that was from a South Park episode about Scientology...nevermind
