When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Behold your son!" Then he said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
So mush is twisted together here, that seems to contradict what any church teaches...
Why would Mary go live with this disciple (almost all churches assume it to be John)?
What happened to Joseph?
What happened to his brothers and sisters that should have been the first to take care of her?
What is John/this disciple doing with a home? I thought, "He left all things to follow Jesus"?
I do not believe this supports the catholic church's teaching that Mary is all of our mother (meaning every Christian's mother) as it was said specifically to whoever this disciple was and not in the plural--'she is the mother of all of you'.
This is such a strange passage seeming to jar with other scriptures and personally I am puzzled about what to do with it.
Any insight? I would prefer if anyone has every had a revelation from God in prayer but if just what anyone knows would help as well.

ps...could the disciple Jesus loved be Lazarus? It is noted in John that Martha and Mary both called him " 'the one you love' is sick"...Lazarus we know did have a home, but still what happened to Mary's family...
