You Are Not Listening!

Jeremiah 13: 15.

"Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath Spoken.

Notice how many time the word LISTEN or something very similar is used in the bible. In the older Bible versions the words used were Hear, Hearken, obey. These words occur nearly one thousand times in the old testament.
The opposite is not 'to be deaf' (as if the problem is one's hearing).

But stubbornness in (Jeremiah 13: 10) "This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing."
Arrogance in (Jeremiah 13: 15) "Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: the the LORD hath Spoken."
Forgetfulness in (Jeremiah 13: 25) "This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou has forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.", is all part of not listening, or hearing.

Unlike idols, the Lord is a God who speaks and our privilege and our responsibility is to listen to his voice. We are to be an ingredient in the divine happiness, to live for God's renown, praise and honor. May the beauty of the Lord be seen in my life, in all I am and do and say; may my life be inexplicable apart from God.

Let your imagination play over the startling pictures in this chapter; the ruined waistcloth; the drunks smashing into one another; people stumbling into the darkening hills; lost sheep; the pains of labour; driven chaff; torn and raised skirts; the leopard's spots. Alexander Solzhenitsyn, in his 1983 address when he awarded the templeton Prize, said that the principlal trait of the twentieth century was, 'men have forgotten God.

Jeremiah saw his own people, from the top of society to the bottom of the country(cities of the Negev, in the sourthern desert). as experts in evil! Pray for your own society, your own nation. There is a time to raise our voices and a time to weep secretly. Pray for discernment to know your time, your task. The chapter ends in (Jeremiah 13: 27) Stretching out towards an uncertain future: 'How long will you be unclean?'

When will all of us will start to listen? Next week? next month? next year? To late?
