What is the difference between reputation points and reputation power?

You are not able to know who thinks you are a good person?

If someone puts me on the rap sheet(hahaha that sounds so hilarious coming from me, like I am in jail or something) anyways, if they do this does this also show up and if so where at? Or does it just go to the admin and they will contact me?

I know I ask a lot but it would be nice to know..

Thanks!:)
In the user Control Panel under 'Latest Reputation Received'.

You don't necessarily get to see 'who'...

:)

Someone as new as you is not too likely to have rep added yet.
lol ...ya I guess, that shows its not about how good your post is,,, but how liked/known you are here then ;) sounds a lil like a waste of time the rep system then.

I feel like the rep system is more valid than the like button. :)

Actually the like button is pretty new to the site. So, at least as long as i have been on the site, the Rep was used as a like button for posts, or that's how all mine seemed. Rep did seem to get lost, and when Like was added, it lost even more use in Rep. I don't know for sure, but i'm assuming that when the site is remade it will be without rep.

So wait, I have 16 rep points right now but a rep power of 1. I read in FAQ that rep power comes from the administrators anyway. But, because I have 16 rep points, shouldn't I have more icons? I really don't understand how that works.

What is reputation?
Reputation is a way of rating other chat members depending on the quality of their chat forum posts. The reputation icon will be visible in posts.
Reputation may be positive
, negative
or neutral
. (Neutral reputation is only given when the person giving reputation does not meet the criteria set by the administrators to affect someone else's reputation.)
How do I give reputation?
To give reputation, click on the reputation icon in the relevant post. This will reveal a form to complete with the reputation type and the reason for giving the reputation. You may not give reputation for the same post twice.
How do I know what reputation I have received?
You can view the reputation that you have received in your Control Panel where it is displayed at the bottom of the Control Panel page. Here you will see the latest reputation that you have received and whether it is positive, negative or neutral. Your total reputation will be shown as a series of reputation indicators in your posts and profile. The more positive your reputation, the more positive icons will be shown. The more negative your reputation the more negative icons will be shown.
How much reputation is given? What is reputation power?
The amount of reputation that each user can give (or take away if negative) is shown in the user's posts as 'Reputation Power'. The value of the reputation power is determined by the administrators and may increase over time.
What if I don't want anyone to see my reputation?
You can disable the display of your reputation by going to your Control Panel and selecting Edit Options. On this page you will find a check box labelled 'Show Your Reputation Level'. Un-checking this box will remove the display of your reputation and replace it with the Reputation Disabled icon. You can still give and receive reputation while your reputation display is disabled.

See, that's what I'm saying. I have 16, but only have one reputation indicator on my profile and posts. As in, one little green square, if I'm understanding what those mean correctly. Bah, what do I care anyway? I was just trying to understand it better, but too much hassle over one little thing.

I think perhaps you have misunderstood...

How much reputation is given? What is reputation power?
The amount of reputation that each user can give (or take away if negative) is shown in the user's posts as 'Reputation Power'. The value of the reputation power is determined by the administrators and may increase over time.
This means that the 'Reputation Power' number represents the ability of each user to give others reputation.

In other words, your 'Reputation Power' number represents how much reputation (positive or negative) that you can give to other users.

:)

Perhaps it is one icon per 100 points?

(The last icon always representing the current "partial" group.)

Here's the answer; it was answered for another person :):

I have one point (lol) but cant see any rep in my cp ... is that just a flash thing.
I believe you get one rep point for your first 50 posts, then an additional point for each 1,000 posts. Another point for each year you've been a member. You may have to make at least a post per year to get the point, though apparently you can start posting and make them all up at once if Stephen is any indication. One more point for each hundred rep points (or at least the first hundred), which, again, are noted at the bottom of the control panel page. The rep points you receive per post are dependent on the rep power of the person giving you the good reputation.

Personally, I only give rep power to the people I know well and whose posts I consistently agree with, but I click the "like" button really often (whenever I read a post that I like and think of clicking the button, usually even if I REALLY dislike the poster which isn't very often, fortunately :)).

I am not sure how to post what GRA said about the reputation and the like system

but if you read it;It will help you to understand it better.

I think that when you click on the rep button to give reputation points,It shows the community what is

thought of the persons undestanding of post based on their responses to past post.the reputation

button is located at the top right of the post by the word, permalink.I think if the person knew who

gave them points, they would have a tendency to give points back, and that wouldn't be in truth.

I could be wrong...

But, I just don't see 'REP' and 'Like' as the same thing.

Besides, if they are essentially the same thing - why did they create 'Like' instead of simply promoting the use of 'REP'...?

In any case, now that we have both -- would we not think that they should be meaningful and significant in different ways - and used accordingly?

("I wonder if it would be beneficial to 'sticky' this thread?")

:)

Its kind of a pointless discussion since Rep hasn't been used much in a long time, and even less since 'Like' was instituted.
I used to get Rep every week or two, but since Like i now can go two months before getting Rep, but i get liked many times a day. I think people are happy with Like, its what many people requested and don't imagine people are going to make a distinction between the two at this point.
