He was a Hebrew. Probably shorter and darker skined than white Americans, just like those in the other Middle East countries

His human mother Mary was from the tribe of Judah and their race is black. This should give some indication on the color of the skin of Jesus.

What does it matter? Will you know Him by the appearance of His flesh? :)

2 Corinthians 5:16
Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

Jesus is the Light of the world. Light is comprised of all colors, which when combined makes white :)

Just did a Google search to verify. I originally read about it in a book years ago. I forget the name.

Jesus was a Jew. So he would not have been white as many pictures portray him. He would have olive colored skin and dark hair and be Jewish in his features.

I think the OP is talking about when Jesus walked the earth in human form. Jesus was Jewish so he would have had a darker color skin than is portrayed in most pictures painted of him.

More interesting, what colour is God.:)

Revelation 4:2-3 NLT
[2] And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone
sitting on it.
[3] The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones-like jasper and
carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow.

Revelation 4:2-3 AMP
[2] At once I came under the Holy Spirit's power, and behold, a throne stood in
heaven, with One seated on the throne!
[3] And He Who sat there appeared like the crystalline brightness of jasper and
the fiery sardius, and encircling the throne there was a halo that looked like a
rainbow of emerald.

He's portrayed as white in art & movies made primarily by white people...

in renaissance & older European religious art, paintings & sculpture weren't usually just done at the whim of the artist. more often they were commissioned by a wealthy donor. it was common practice to portray religious figures in the artwork as having the features of the person paying for the commission - or sometimes as the person for whom the art was meant to be a gift. so a painting of the apostle John meant to be a gift to the abbot of some cathedral might be a portrait of that abbot, or a painting of Mary meant to be donated to a church or hung in a great manor might be a portrait of the donor's wife or daughter.

since Europe is predominately white - and back in those days also unabashedly racist, too - what you see in classical religious art in the west is a lot of very caucasian looking people that are supposed to be images of what were very arabic / semitic people. this is how the popular "white Jesus" image sort of emerged. European art from these time periods has been passed down to the western world as a sort of 'ideal' art and much more modern paintings follow the examples from those times & places -- so the "white Jesus" image propagated into our culture.

some old paintings of Christ are actually portraits of people involved in the painting's commission, and also some of them are idealized representations of what the white people who made the art thought a 'perfect human' should look like. renaissance art in particular was heavily influenced by humanism and by Greek & Roman styles, which emphasized ideal human form - or what they thought an ideal human body should look like, anyway. very muscular men, sort of plump women, with very oval, very symmetric faces. so Michelangelo's paintings in the Sistene Chapel have God & Moses etc. looking like a pro wrestler or body builder. also very white -- throughout Europe the prevailing thought was that white Europeans were the apex of civilization and every other race was inferior.

if you look at Ethiopian art from the same time periods, or Asian or Arabic art, you see images of Christ or other figures from the Bible looking very much like the people that lived in those areas. people just tend to project their own racial attributes onto iconography, for whatever reason. and some of those reasons are really benign -- it's not a bunch of overt racism so much as it is simply making the image relevant to the audience.

hope this helps some understand a bit better. hehe maybe my art degree wasn't a total waste ;)

We do not know because God did not tell us. God did not tell us because we would only fight over it. We ought to accept that Jesus looked like everybody else in Israel at the time.

Isaiah 53 describes Him as having no form or comeliness that we should desire Him.
