How many of you heard of the argument that H2O, Ice, and Steam are all of the same and are equal to make the case for the Trinity?

-or-

What about the 3 lights? Lol

Well this is another spin on my case in understanding the Trinity and how the 3 components of the Trinity are all equal and of the same.

Any of you ever done any acting in your life? Doesn't matter if it was Broadway or a school play lol, at the end of it there's one person who gets credit for a character that was played and that's the actor. How many times have you seen a film where one actor plays numerous roles in one film? Jim Carrey did so in "Man on the Moon" a Bio pic about Andy Kaufman. He played Andy Kaufman & he played Tony Clifton. He also played 2 characters early in his career in one film "The Mask".

Now I have a question, are the characters Jim plays seperately different people?

No. Andy Kaufman was Tony Clifton, Tony Clifton was Andy Kaufman, Jim Carrey was both in the film. Without Jim Carrey the characters would not have a source to be actual living figures with in the film. So take it like this the life we live is the movie and ofcourse we the creations are the extras. God is the source that is going to give Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit life to become living characters with in this film we the extras know as life.

I know you want to see proof of Jesus claiming this

So let's look at

John 5:17-19 ESV

But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working until now, and I am working." This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.

As you can see Jesus Christ is stating that God the Father is doing his works through him the son. Jesus can be looked at as the character & God the Father who is the actor in this film called "Life". The only thing is the character recognizes that he is a role to which God the Father is playing out and through this role he is accomplishing his will. Let's look at some other verses where Jesus makes himself equal to God the Father

John 10:28-30 ESV

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

Now here you see Jesus (the role/character) holding his weight and letting you know what he can do and not only does he state what he can do he tells you right at the end as to why he can do what he has been doing, because he is one with the Father, he the role/character is not seperate from the actor with out the actor (God the Father) the role can not be played.

The evidence of the roles as to God plays with in the Bible is very over whelming like when Jesus gets baptised or like it is explained with in these words that can be found in

1 Timothy 3:16 KJV

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

As you can see what the "Spirit" one of many roles is. Aswell the flesh is Jesus Christ and God remains God, with in these few words you can see how everything in this plot plays out and how God is able to show how great he and powerful he is. God plays himself as the actor who manifests into the Flesh/character known as Jesus of Nazareth or better yet Jesus Christ, in which he also plays the "Spirit" that vindicates that God is Jesus Christ. Its a complex plot but its all intertwines with itself.

So after reading about Jesus Christ now in going to list all the roles God plays through the Holy Spirit and even in these verses it explains further more the Trinity let's see if you can pick up on it.

The roles of the Holy Spirit

The Divine:

Acts 2:1-4 ESV

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Creates Christian character:

Galatians 5:22-26 ESV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Gives Gifts:

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 ESV

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

Gives Victory Over the Flesh:

Jude 1:20-23 ESV

But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

Gives Physical Strength:

Judges 14:5-6 ESV

Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

Judges 14:19 ESV

And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck down thirty men of the town and took their spoil and gave the garments to those who had told the riddle. In hot anger he went back to his father's house.

Enables Man to Receive Divine Revelation:

Numbers 11:25 ESV

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not continue doing it.

2 Samuel 23:2 ESV

"The Spirit of the Lord speaks by me;

his word is on my tongue.

Acts 2:18 ESV

even on my male servants and female servants

in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

Empowers the servants of God:

Psalm 51:12 ESV

Restore to me the joy of your salvation,

and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Joel 2:28-29 ESV

"And it shall come to pass afterward,

that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your old men shall dream dreams,

and your young men shall see visions.

Even on the male and female servants

in those days I will pour out my Spirit.

Micah 3:8 ESV

But as for me, I am filled with power,

with the Spirit of the Lord,

and with justice and might,

to declare to Jacob his transgression

and to Israel his sin.

Zechariah 4:6 ESV

Then he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

That last verse is powerful read up on John 1:1-4 and compare the verses you will see total proof of the Trinity.

At the end of the day God receives all the glory (credit) even though he presents or plays many different roles and without him the roles/characters he plays they are nothing without God. I've heard it doesn't matter how big or small your role is just matters how powerful that role was played. God plays the performances of eternity to show us his creations how powerful loving amazing perfect he is and what we mean to him. If you still can't understand how the Trinity exist or works or how they are all equal after this my final advice is pray on in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. God bless you and Peace be unto you All.

I believe the Trinity simply refers to one God doing three different things: He is the Father (Creator). He is the Son (Jesus). He is the Holy Spirit (This is what we call him when he speaks to us.)

This is comparable to a man who is a father, son, and husband, all at the same time.

Let me try my hand at this :p
'Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.' (Gen 2:24) when people get married, they don't melt into one person. they still stay separate, but their mindset is different. they now become 'one' in terms of direction, aim and purpose. they are both moving to the same goal and have the same game plan in mind. similarly, the God head is 3 separate entities. all with the same vision, direction and purpose...

Commonly referred to as "One God in Three Persons", the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are identified as distinct and co-eternal "persons" or "hypostases," who share a single Divine essence, being, or nature.
The doctrine of the Trinity is the result of continuous exploration by theologians of scripture and philosophy, argued in debate and treatises. In 325 A.D. this doctrine was accepted by the Christian Bishops in attendance at the council of Nicea, under the watchful eye of the pagan Emperor, Constantine I.

good links from this:
First Council of Nicaea

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The First Council of Nicea was a council of Christian bishops convened in Nicea in Bithynia (present-day İznik in Turkey) by the Roman Emperor Constantine I in A.D. 325. The Council was the first effort to attain consensus in the church through an assembly representing all of Christendom.[2]
Its main accomplishments were settlement of the Christological issue of the relationship of Jesus to God the Father; the construction of the first part of the Nicene Creed; settling the calculation of the date of Easter; and promulgation of early canon law.[3][4]

try some of this;
Athanasian Creed

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Athanasian Creed (Quicumque vult) is a Christian statement of belief, focusing on Trinitarian doctrine and Christology. The Latin name of the creed, Quicumque vult, is taken from the opening words, "Whosoever wishes." The Athanasian Creed has been used by Christian churches since the sixth century. It is the first creed in which the equality of the three persons of the Trinity is explicitly stated, and differs from the Nicene-Constantinopolitan and Apostles' Creeds in the inclusion of anathemas, or condemnations of those who disagree with the Creed (like the original Nicene Creed).

I am a father, son, brother, nephew, husband, uncle, but I am one person, not 6. Well as far as all the tests bear out. HAHA!

Water as ice, steam or liquid is still water - water in three states, not three different sorts of water.

A son cannot be his own father.

Sons are not, by very definition, eternal, as son means 'born one' and if you're born you have a beginning.

God the Father is not born, has no beginning.

The Son of God is not God the Father.

One of the problems with Modalism is that it doesn't result in a trinity, but probably something like a 17-ity. If Jesus as a manifestation and revelation of God deserves his own spot in the Godhead, what happens to all the other manifestations and revelations of God? Do we, in other words, baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, the Burning Bush, the Pillar of Fire, Balaam's Ass, a Smoking Furnace, Burning Lamp... or even the Bible? Does his personified Wisdom count?

Let's keep in mind we don't know how many other ways God might manifest himself. In what forms does he speak with his angels? Has he ever manifested himself in any other physical form to particular people? If God choses to sit in Jupiter in the form of a green rock simply because he likes watching the clouds pass, does this mean we worship a 4-ity but don't know it?

In Modalism, there's no reason to stop counting at 3, since very different mask deserves its own spot in the Godhead... unless, of course, you're already a Trinitarian and really need that number in particular.

...which is why Sabellianism/Monarchianism/Patripassianism is closer to truth than Trinity in Oneness, but further from truth in Threeness. Trinity's "persons" are too discrete; Oneness's "manifestations" are two indistinct. The Father is not the Son is not the Spirit; but these three aren't eternally-distinct as multiple conjoined transcendent "presons", either.

There's a better answer to how God's transcendent substance and identity were embodied in/as an immanent man.

A. Trinity
B. Oneness
C. Neither

[C. Neither. Final answer.]

(Nor Triadism, Tritheism, Diadism, Bitheism, Binitarianism, Unitarianism, Arianism, Adoptionism, Docetism, Nestorianism, Eutychianism, Apollinarianism, Polytheism, Henotheism, Pantheism, Panentheism, or Gnosticism.)

I would like to astutely point out, that to use philosphy to describe or explain the scriptures on points of doctrine (teaching) is automatically in error.

If scholars or students of scripture would just eliminate theologial jargon and terms of expression that can not be found in scripture, then perhaps a lot of confusion would just disappear.

TERMS ON THE GODHEAD NOT FOUND IN THE BIBLE...

1. Three persons, but one God.
2. God the Son.
3. Hypostasis.
4. three distinct modes.
5. Eternal Son.
6. Trinity.
7. Triune God.
8. distinct persons in unity.
9. Plurality in unity.
10. Co-eternal.
11. Co-existent.
12. None before or after.
13. Monotheism

My point is distinct and clarifying, the theology of man will only lead to confusion, but it is Satan who is its author. The scripture is plain. "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead" Romans 1:20

To whom are you addressing this? Some of us don't use philosophical terminology, and some of us aren't Trinitarian.

Please exegete the Greek from Romans 1:20 for "Godhead".

But there IS a distinction between describing and defining; and many theological terms are "shorthand" for the sake of communicative clarity and brevity.

Monotheism, for example, is merely "shorthand" for there being one singular God. It's appropriate and expedient, and is scripturally accurate.

"The Spirit of the Lord speaks by me;

his word is on my tongue.

"And it shall come to pass afterward,

that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your old men shall dream dreams,

and your young men shall see visions.

Dear friend:

The Holy Trinity cannot be explained! Not by mortal man.

In the Trinity, "there is a mystery involved that cannot be totally

explained ...." see: Holy Trinity: What does this tell us about God?

To whom are you addressing this? Some of us don't use philosophical terminology, and some of us aren't Trinitarian.

Please exegete the Greek from Romans 1:20 for "Godhead".

Words not found in the Bible:

"Everything true that a true Christian must believe is in the Bible; the Bible alone is all you need."
