Lottery is wrong in God's eyes. It make you think you are lucky but when you think you are lucky you lose all your money. Places like the casino's is daingerous because daingerous people hanging arrownd there. Rather work for your money instead of doing Lottery. I spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people via my ministry to spread God's word via free CD's but Lottery do nothing good in people's life stay away from it. Lottery is against the Christian faith.

The Lottery is a form of gambling. Gambling is a form of covetousness and/or greed. In turn scripture says that such is idolatry.

In gambling one is seeking to gain without working for it. In gambling one seeks to take what belonged to another without returning an equal or agreed value in goods or services.

Gambling is mutual theft, just like dueling is mutual murder. In gambling I agree to risk losing my money in return for nothing at a chance to take your money in exchange for nothing. In dueling I agree to risk losing my life in return for a chance to take your life.

Many things in life have risk, but risk is not the same as gambling. Gambling is the risk of a WAGER.

Poker is just a card game until there is a wager, then it becomes gambling.

I know I'm not taking the popular Christian view here, but I'm not certain gambling and lotteries are prohibited in scripture.

I will agree that we are to be responsible with our finances. We should act as good stewards of our possessions. However I see no problem with using your money for entertainment purposes. How many of you purchase movies, music, video games, sports tickets, etc.? Everyone uses there money for entertainment from time to time. If playing a game is entertaining to you and you're doing so in moderation- whats the big deal?

I'd also be curious to hear if those of you that are against lotteries and gambling also disapprove of investing money into the stock market? Would it be wrong to invest into a company? Are capital investments prohibited as well? I mean no return of finances is promised. It seems like glorified gambling to me. If we are going to take such a position against the lottery, then I think we should carry out such a view into the stock market.

Sweetly,

While gambling may be entertaining to some it is not the same a paying for a movie, etc. In gambling you are wagering your money against others for the purpose of gaining theirs without returning a service or a product.

The bible acknowledges appropriate ways to gain wealth. As a gift received. As something earned. Gambling is neither.

The motive behind gambling betrays greed or covetousness.

Investing funds through the stock market, etc. has risk but it is not gambling. You are loaning a business your own funds hoping for that business to be prosperous. When it is you earn dividends on your investment. It is not different than putting money in your own business which you run for profit.

Mahogany,

Shall we do evil for the benefit of some good (?).

Maybe we should tax prostitution to fund research for STDs or AIDS.

Maybe we should tax tobacco for cancer research.

Maybe we should tax alcohol for rehab units.

Again, I completely disagree. You are not promised anything in the stock market. It is a business you do not own personally that you're investing into, with hopes of something playing out right and you getting back a good amount of money. It is taking some guesses on how things play out (just like gambling) with the hopes of profit. Its greed, just more glorified because it seems professional.

What about Bingo and raffles? I know quite a few churches use those sort of things as a means of fundraising.

Maybe you should allow illegal immigrants into your country to do the dirty work that lazy people don't wanna do. Oh that's right, you already do ;).

The stock market does indeed have risk and it has a definite profit motive. And yes some are greedy.

But it is not the same as gambling. Investing in a business to take part in its profit is good business just like if you put your own money into your own business to make a profit.

In gambling there is a wager. You put money down not to EARN by sales of a product or the provision of a service. It is all about playing ODDS or chance in order to take someone else's money. When you do not return a product or service and take someone's money you are stealing.

And yes raffles and bingo are gambling. No church worth the name of Christ should EVER be involved. Bingo is a form of lottery.

Stealing is taking something that belongs to another person without their consent.

When people play lottery etc, they hand over the money willingly and agree to the terms and conditions. So it's not stealing.

Mahogany,

They did not merely hand the money to you as a gift. You took it from them at the risk of losing your own. Again you did not earn it through a service or sale of a product. IT IS stealing.

Dueling is murder with consent, but it doesn't change the nature.

Wrong. The gambling IS the service. Giving the person a chance to win more than what they give.

The person departs with their money of their own free will and consent, knowing the rules of the game.

Your claim that it is stealing would not hold up in any court system. Try it. Go and gamble, then try and take them to court for stealing your money, see how far you get hehehe.

Just because it is not illegal and is apparently voluntary changes nothing. Idiots do lots of things voluntarily.

Wether it is gambleing or some thing else, when it brings harm or separates you from Jesus then it is a sin. I have seen many things become sin simply because of the place it takes in your life. By the way I am 21 yrs free of gambling addiction. Thankyou very much Jesus! No matter our steps Our Lord Jesus knows our hearts and if we have him he will not let us be lost. God bless, pickles

I believe it must be a personal conviction, but you to tell other people it is a sin without backing it up isn't really your place in my opinion.
