So what you're saying is that if he told you he robbed a little old lady on the dark street corner, it would be okay?

Fix has discovered irony(or sarcasm)

Why do you start a topic with something negative as "Lottery is Wrong". Is the objective of this forum find new things that are supposedly wrong with no real Biblical foundation? As greatkraw said, lottery and tossings have always been used from ancient times to resolve things. Lottery isn't gambling, because you have already spent whatever the ticket price is, and you know that there is a very good chance you might not get anything: it's a controlled expense that you can or not set in your budget, and I don't think it has to do anything with it being right or wrong.

anyone can play poker with chips and that is just a game

but if those chips represent money that may be different

not that they represent money but that someone is experiencing avarice - ie they are covetting

i keep away from this stuff(usually) for these reasons

1 it involved covetting

2 you cant win - I have formally studied probaility and statistics

3 the real people that do win are those that run it (in my country it is now all in private hands with government blessing)

4 I have a brother with a terrible gambling problem

5 I do not find it entertaining and I really dont see how it can be; I suspect any emotional twinges that come from it are twinges of greed

I drink alcohol occcasionally, I guess if I had someone who was an alcoholic I would reconsider that policy

well, I do want enough money to be sure I don't have to worry, but I don't want enough to throw it out the window...
I never win stuff anyways, so I don't spend money on lotteries :p unless they are for charity and I'm bored

I think there's nothing wrong with lottery if the prizes come from a right way but it's sinful if they come from a plunder or graft. Gambling could be wrong for us but if we'll use what we get from it as a tool to help other people, perhaps God will forgive us.
