It is so lovely uhaire to have this strong desire to hear the Lord. I would just like to tell you that God is not necessary gonna talk to you the way YOU want Him to. He can talk to you through reading the bible, through people, through reading spiritual Christian books, through meditation on a specific passage, through a sermon or a song. And the list can keep on going!! 
What's very important is when He speaks, you listen and recognize His voice. And here's a good news for you, when God speaks, it's always very clear, like black and white. You can't question it twice. And if you do, know, it's not God talking. Right away like that!!

I can relate to what you say. Remember how the big prophets in the bible, often only heard God a handfull of times through their entire lives. In many ways are we lucky in having Gods word availeble all the time. I guess God speaks more to you than you think. As your desire appears to be Gods heart. And therefore His voice. I hope youll persist your position even if your prayers will not be answered on the spot.
I believe many have lost their godly way by listening to any voice that appears god.

The best time to reach out to God is morning worship, start the day with Jesus. I start the day with headphones playing worship music, real worship music. The music helps me to connect with him.

The Bible is the only way that you will truly hear from God. Don't trust what people in church say. They may be right, quoting the Bible, but until you know the Bible better, just keep reading. Also pray, and write down and memorize the verses that God seems to be speaking to you with.
The Holy Spirit uses God's Word to communicate with us. Rely on the Bible and you will not go far wrong. Praying God speaks to you through his Word!

And, God's word says:
I hear so many Christians say we hear God thru the bible, yet they ignore this passage.
I hear God's voice speak to me. The first time God spoke to me I was 15 and then God did not speak for thirty years. Since that time, I partnered up with a person who helped me to hear the voice of God. Now I hear God speak to me 2 or 3 times a month. If you want to hear God speak to you are doing the right thing. Never let others claim otherwise. There are books on this topic and I hope you find a good one. In a nut shell, this is what I did to hear His voice.
1) The passage I posted above states "My sheep hear my voice, I know them and they follow me" So if you want to hear His voice it is important to do His will.
2) Pray and worship Him. God states that He inhabits the praises of His people.
3) Read the bible.
4) Repent of past sins. Many Christians think if we sin we are automatically forgiven but the bible says otherwise. The bible is clear, we must repent of our sin. I won't go into those scriptures as we should all know them from Sunday school.
a) Make a list of all those who have hurt you in any way. Go as far back as your memory allows. Write the names of bullies, people who insulted you, people who offended you, etc. Then pray over that list one by one saying "I forgive (name) for (whatever). I release them from my desire to get even or to get justice. I pray for their salvation. in Jesus name." Or repent as you fell led. Make sure to ask God if there is anyone you have forgotten and list all that God shows you.
b) Go thru a list of sin types and makes more lists to pray over. Always ask God to show you the sins you have forgotten.
c) Help others in need. If a homeless person asks for food buy them some food. Is there a person in your church who has needs? Pray about helping them.
5) Be patient, be persistent and be on fire for God. God will speak to you when He sees how hard you are trying to serve Him in all that you do.
6) Ask God to remove the false beliefs you may have. Ask God to expose the things which are a barrier between you and God. And keep at it.
God does speak today to some of His own. I know others here that God does speak to. All Christians have the capacity to hear God speak to them. I hope you hear Him soon.
