What you are lacking is not the ability to hear God, but understanding what hearing God includes! You hear God in these ways:
Through His written word
Through prophecy spoken by another believer
Through dreams and visions
Through your thoughts (remember tha God is very gentle and you hear Him, but often think it is 'just me' when it is really Him!
Through audible sound (here again, He is very gentle. It does not come as a big booming voice...cuz that would totally freak you out and then His point would be lost.)
Through prayer....you speak, but do you wait on Him for answer? It does not always come as coversation, but you might have to wait on Him. He wants to see how persistant you will be to get your answer...it allows you to draw closer to Him...that pursuit of Him.
Through the wise words of even those not saved....remember...He onced used a donkey!!

I'm so glad you are seeking my own experience started with speaking tongues first then came prophesying but before that I started hearing his voice even understanding tongues the gift comes from faith it is the Holy ghost you must believe that He is His giftins are still there but most reject for various reason but in all we must not reject the revelation from the Lord and learn your word that you may have confirms in every way through the word the confirms you will see and most importantly the word must align . in all direction .

uhaire, Jesus knows your heart and how serious you are about Him. Jesus love His faithful children, and will respond to them when needed. Many christians have a knack of reading the Scriptures like they do with a newspaper or book. You must read it with passion, power, and authority. And you must establish a relationship with Him, you can do this by reading Revelation 3:20 and tell Him you are serious about starting a relationship.

YOU NEVER WILL, HEAR GOD SPEAK VERBALY IN YOUR EAR. PEOPLE WHO DO HAVE SOME REAL ISSUES. I BELIEVE WHAT SOME COUNFUSE HEARING GOD IS WHEN THEY GET AND AND SPIRTUAL THOUGHT IN THERE MIND. THEY THINK THAT IS GOD TALKING TO THEM. IF YOU LOOK AT IT THAT WAY GOD TALKS NON-STOP EVERY DAY TO EVERYONE.

SO READ YOUR BIBLE TALK TO HIM. GO FIND A CHURCH OF CHRIST NEAR YOU AND BEGAIN A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST.

In emergency sometimes you hear a voice...
I was driving one night on highway and in a ravine was a train track.
I was nearly heading across the tracks when I heard clearly
STOP NOW!
and I slammed on the brakes.
as I was skidding up to the tracks a train went by around 60 MPH
saved my life.
I heard that voice clear as a bell in my mind.
My grandparents were in Russia and the germans were coming to kill everyone.
It was around two AM
a voice rang out
Get up and go to the train station!
great grandma got the kids up
snow and cold
dressed them and went to train stations
everyone else was heading away from train station cause the Germans were coming into the train station!
what would you do?
she continued to the train station as told
at the station the germans were almost there
a russian truck with two tens full of machine guns drove up
said,
Grandma said can we have a ride?
they said sure
they all got in and were driven 20 km to next safe town

God also speaks in a auditory form , those that don't believe it is on their conscious if they not only believe but speak evil of it , be careful not to say evil of my Fathers Holy Ghost it is not magic but a gift from God remember the pharisees that said Jesus cast out demons by belsebuub but he responded about the fact that they blasphemed the Holy Ghost and the fact that it is unforgivable ever , so being speak with carefully thought and not foolish as ignorant but instead speak in full discernment and think before those thoughts surface , pray that God cures those thought out of your hearts instead , peace of Christ be with you ......
Just open the bible, pray, be right and study.
If you cannot understand and or are not (hearing) anything from the bible when you read it, I suggest you check your salvation (not being mean or judgmental) as the natural man cannot receive the things of God nor can he/she understand the word because it is spiritually discerned. A person who is lost cannot understand the word or God nor do they have any ability to (spiritually judge) the word.

To those who don't believe that God speaks to us like a voice in our spirit, I've been thinking about this..So God spoke all matter into existence, He spoke to Adam and Eve, their murderous son, he spoke to animals to multiply, He spoke to heathen rulers and the faithful alike. He spoke to Paul, James, Peter so they could write epistles to people that could be read by people 2000 years later. But when it comes to those whom He redeemed from sin and death and calls them His children and co-heirs with Christ, He doesn't speak too? He just sits up there watching? Nah, I'm not crazy for hearing God speak to me and instruct me, I think that's an excuse or mental reasoning to justify unbelief (for whatever reason that may be)

In times past he spoke directly to the fathers/Heads of the house, Noah, Abrham, Moses.
He give Moses the first Written Law, The Law of Moses. It was done away when Jesus died on the cross.
Now, we have the written Word on paper and ink. The words of the New Testament. We are to hear Jesus.
Jesus does not speak to certin disiples, it wold make him a respector of persons.
As far as understanding God? Why would have Jesus said to going into all the word and treach and teach his golple?Especially if Sinners can understand it? It don't make sense.
There is a line between HEARING God Audibly and just plain having thoughts from what you have learned.
If God is talking to you have him tell you something that is going to happen in advance go tell a TV or News Paper and record it and you may have something. Till then I don't believe it for a minute.
