Okay well to break the monotony of the reoccuring Bible Dicussion threads I figure we all play a game. I personally find games to be a good way of learning and I always been a big fan of trivia type games. So I figure we will play a little Bible Trivia to help learn about the Bible a bit more and to just have some fun.

Now the intent of this thread is not any sort of theological quandry thread, we're just having trivia. So save you theological questions for another topic. This way anyone, even our non-Christian friends can play along too. I'll impose some simple rules here to try to keep us on track.

Basic Rules:

You will answer the person before you and also give the verses that support your answer and then ask your own question
All questions must pertain only to a Person, Place, or Event in the Bible.
All answers should be backed up with the Bible verses
You are allowed, and encouraged to use google or your own physical copy of the Bible to look for the answers
(here is link to Biblegateway for a resource BibleGateway.com: A searchable online Bible in over 100 versions and 50 languages. ).
Questions should be somewhat specific and not too vague so that they can have a definitive answer
No trick questions or theological questions, trivia only.

Example Questions and Answers:

Example Person Question: Who said "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do"?

Example Person Answer: Jesus
Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Example Place Question: What town were Mary, Martha, and Lazarus from?

Example Place Answer: Bethany
John 11:1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

Example Event Question: In what event did Peter, James, and John see Jesus talking to Elijah and Moses?

Example Event Answer: The Transfiguration
Matthew 17:1-3 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, [SUP]2 [/SUP]And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

So you can see my basic idea here for the thread, remember this is not meant to be a theological topic, merely a trivia game for fun and learning. I shall start us off with a fairly easy question.

Question: What was the name of Apostles James and John's dad?

Question: What was the name of Apostles James and John's dad?

Zebedee.

Now is my turn to ask a question?

If yes, than, my question is...in what parable does God compare Himself with a woman?

Yes you get to ask a question after you answer (also provide a scripture to support your answer) It's okay since we just started.

for example of how I am looking for you to answer would be:

Zebedee
Mark 3:17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

Also remember all questions must pertain to a Person, Place, or Event.

Sorry, if I was not so clear in my OP. It's all good though, no sweat since we are just starting out. Go ahead and ask another question

Lol that's why I said to ask another question. We're not dealing with parables or prophecies for this trivia game (as that be a theological question which is open to interpretation.) All questions must be about People, Places, or Events so as to have a definitive answer.

For example, what Prophet speaking for God said "now will I cry like a travailing woman"?

Example answer:
Isaiah
Isaiah 42:14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.

God appears as a woman in Luke 15,8 where Jesus Christ tells the parable of the lost coin (lost drachma): [SUP]8 [/SUP]“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[SUP][a][/SUP] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?

and in Luke 13, 20-21:
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? [SUP]21 [/SUP]It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[SUP][a][/SUP] of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

My next question: What was the name of the pharaoh whose wife seduced Joseph and because he rejected her, she made false accusations about him and put him in jail?

What a long question :))

I have to correct myself: the man whose wife tries to seduce Joseph is not a pharaoh.

But, come on! You must know the answer to this one! :)

Heh this is why we are not asking questions of parables in the trivia game since that is a theological qustion, because in those parable of Luke 13 this is not about God, but rather his Kingdom. Though indeed Luke 15 is a good parable for how God feels when someone repents, and is awesome parable. Nonetheless, lol, we'll get lost into theological quandries if we do Parable or Prophecy trivia, which is why I am trying to keep it simple with just People, Places, and Events (event is like the great flood, battle of ramoth-gilead, the transfiguration, the crucifixion, etc.)

Next question is a very good question! Though it's not about Pharoah (the pharoah is Ramses), and the man whom Joseph served was merely a captain of the guard ;). Nonetheless, good question indeed!

Potiphar
Genesis 39:1 And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.
Genesis 39:17-20 And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me: [SUP]18 [/SUP]And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

EDIT: Where did Joseph's family (Israel) dwell after he brought them into the land of Egypt?

Oh shoot..I was looking for my question for too long... :(
That's okay you can answer my question and i'll answer yours and Simona will answer one or both if she wants lol

Ruth the Moabitess

Luke 3:31-32 [SUP]31 [/SUP]Which was the son of Melea, which was the son of Menan, which was the son of Mattatha, which was the son of Nathan, which was the son of David,
[SUP]32 [/SUP]Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Boaz, which was the son of Salmon, which was the son of Naasson,

Ruth 4:9-10
[SUP]9 [/SUP]And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.

(I'll leave my last question standing to reconcile our split here). Where did Joseph's family (Israel) dwell when he brought them into Egypt?

Israel is actually Jacob, father of Joseph. They dwelt in the region of Goshen.

Gen 46:26-29 26 All those who went to Egypt with Jacob—those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons’ wives—numbered sixty-six persons. 27 With the two sons[f] who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy[g] in all
.
28 Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen, 29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father[h] and wept for a long time.

Gen 47:27-28 27 Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.28 Jacob lived in Egypt seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven.

Yes indeed and good answer! (also yes I know Israel is Jacob, heh perhaps that make a good trivia question. Merely Israel being the head of the family thus is Joseph's family.) Go ahead and posit a question for us now that all is back in line.
