I think I have posted this stuff about how women are not under the control of men about 20 times on here. The only authority over us is Jesus Christ. In English or the Greek!

Yes,... but you didn't post the BBC clip Angela!!! That just clinched it for me!! ;)

I don't see why people get so mad with the picture
the way I interpreted it was that it was made to highlight the hypocricy of sending a typical Christmas card showing the perfect family, yet revealing it is not perfect. .... maybe even as a warning that not all husbands are as good as they pretend to be in church

As for the men and women having different roles: I think that is just a society thing. There are plenty of single dads doing just as well as the single moms

If you have seen loved ones go through abuse, you would see this picture differently. I have at least three women in my family go through abuse by their husbands,a couple who are Christians {or claim to be} So to see a womans mouth taped shut just angers me so much. Its so disrespectful. And the video is the same. A woman shouldn't open her mouth? She talks too much? Is a man ever accused of talking too much? No,I don't see the humor in it all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I thought it was very funny too. I'm pretty fed up of being told how I should feel about something on this forum...you know?

which is why I posted that funny little guy

It's just really too bad when some folks think a sense of humor is somehow not Christian enough for them and they have to come along and spank you and tell you that you are a bad bad bad person to laugh at anything because they PERSONALLY are offended

I love to laugh and that video was a good laugh on either side. It was so obvious that it was a farce...exaggerating both men and women and it pointed out the extremes

yes, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA indeed ;)

whaaaaa

I HAVE GONE THROUGH PLENTY OF ABUSE at the hands of my ex-husband...and before someone jumps on that, I have remarried 16 years ago so don't go saying I am wounded because that would be a bunch of hogwash (I don't mean you personally right there kayla but I know certain people would love to jump on that even though I have mentionned it before on these here hallowed forums)

I have been kicked, punched, spat on, literally thrown across a room resulting in very painful back spasms, pushed down a set of stairs, shoved around, slapped and thrown out of bed. No need to be angry about anything here. I'm certainly not.

Besides, we are laughing at the silly video...not the ugly photo which I saw a long time ago in my newsfeed on facebook

Disrespectful?

How about respecting the fact that people find something funny...no not the photo cause that photo is actually a pretty accurate representation of how way too many Christian men actually view their wives...

Sorry, the video is not the same.

I do not share your outrage but of course it is your right to feel that way

Myself and others also have a right to laugh at the video, understanding that it is a farce

It's bad enough in the doctrine arguements, but now to be told whether or not it is ok to laugh?

Yeah, not having it and don't be offended. Simply expressing my 'feelings'

Quote "I'm pretty fed up of being told how I should feel about something on this forum...you know?"

No one is telling you how you should feel. Its a discussion forum and people are stating how they feel. No one is telling you to feel anything.

Quote "It's just really too bad when some folks think a sense of humor is somehow not Christian enough for them.."

Its not a matter of being pious and holier than thou. Some people here have been abused or have loved ones abused so we see the pic and video differently. We're allowed to feel differently than you do.

Quote "and they have to come along and spank you and tell you that you are a bad bad bad person to laugh at anything because they PERSONALLY are offended"

I don't see anyone spanking you or saying you're a bad person.

Quote "I love to laugh and that video was a good laugh on either side. It was so obvious that it was a farce...exaggerating both men and women and it pointed out the extremes"

Thats your opinion, you're free to express it. But don't put others down as holier than thou because they take issue with it.

Actually I'm pretty much focused on the photo. It really bothers me. I'm sorry that you had to endure abuse. No one should have to put up with that. Ever. I guess I have women in my family going through that at it just...I have to keep myself in check so I don't go over the line. But it makes me so angry to see people abused but even more so those that cannot fight back, women and children. But we totally agree on the photo. It really, really bothers me. So we agree in that.

I often wondered when that changed.... and really WHO changed it?

Was Christianity supposed to evolve beyond the text of the bible????

IDK...

When they claim to be Christians that really gets me, I get soooo angry. One of these husbands joked about me being married to him and I said "you would be buried under the house by now and Id be doing life in prison". I cannot stand an abuser. Can not stand it!!

Well it wouldnt make sense. From what Im getting its that women have too much mouth and need to zip it. So the roles reversed wouldn't make sense because that isn't a stereotype of men.

That Christmas card with the wife and daughters was shown here on CC and many of us gave our opinion. Some did not find it offensive at all. I found it offensive because of the reasons we all discussed when it was first posted. PoetMary basically said the same thing I agree with her.

But I did not get offended by that BBC skit as it was showing how first unreasonable it is and then stupid to tell women to be quiet about life even to the degree of being at the dinner table. The authenticity of the black and white film and the clothes and hairdos made it all the more funny. It was obviously totally a JOKE.

But the scary thing is there are actually Christian men who are over bearing and who are taught in and by their churches they have the right AND responsibility to lord it over their wives. They do it all wrong and eventually the woman rebels or wilts.

For some years there is an ongoing undercurrent of fight in the marriage and maybe eventually a divorce because of it. Or the wife stays and is depleted in spirit and can't do anything without her husband's approval. Not even the length of her hair or the way the furniture is arranged.

This bossy spirit that these Christian men have is even more built up by their misinterpretation of the Bible verses. When in truth those Bible verses are in fact very beautiful and in perfect harmony with who God made us as men and women to be. (when done in accordance with the spirit.)

There are also women who are in "defense mode" the moment the word "submit" is mentioned. Many of us women especially the younger ones, have not seen a godly husband. So they can only see the overbearing Bible carrying Christian man thinking he is going to use that Bible he carries to beat her over the head with.

She is actually afraid the guy will try and consume everyone upon his own lusts. She isn't being a liberal feminist, she is simply being careful. and needs to be shown by the Christian man that he wouldn't do that to her or anyone.

I've seen how some young Christian men have to mature a bit so they are not so ALPA MALE - feeling the need to be Mr.Boss to the new wife and family. AND some Christian young men have already been taught WELL by their godly fathers and know how to love their wives like (Christ loves His church), and that son's mother and father showed the proper husband/wife relationship of friend, lover, and helper in life example.

I have never found such attitudes of men toward women to be funny.

Could have been a number of things instead of tape over the mouth. Could have been the woman whipping her husband with a cat.

My only complaint about the card is that they didn't do another one turning the tables on the males.

Well like I said I think it's a matter of stereotypes and as Christians I think its just not right. I think a lot of issues we have in marriages start because of stereotypes. Women need to shut up,all men are the same. I don't think stereotypes have any place in a Christian marriage. JMO

But it is good to be able to laugh at stereotypes, don't you think? For they are really only caricatures of life. If we can laugh at them, then maybe it will make it harder for those who take them seriously to do so.
