Wow! That's incredible. I wonder how long it took them to train the elephant. It has pretty good dexterity.

Favorite animals:
- After watching The Land Before Time I became fascinated with dinosaurs, specifically Apatosaurus. I want a pet Apatosaurus so that I can slide down its back...Weeeeeeeeeee.

- Horses are such graceful creatures. Nothing beats horseback riding on a cool summer day.
- Peafowls are so beautiful. Why do they look like they're going to a fashion show?

- Dolphins because they are quite intelligent and sociable.

hi starfield.
they didn't train the elephants.
they paint because they love to do it. they are really, actually expressing themselves.
every painting is different.
it's astonishing.

Wild Dolphins Give Humans Gifts
DEC 26, 2012 12:04 PM ET // BY CHRISTINA REED

On 23 occasions over the past several years, wild dolphins were observed giving gifts to humans at the Tangalooma Island Resort in Australia. The gifts included eels, tuna, squid, an octopus and an assortment of many other types of different fin fish. While these gifts might not be your choice for a gift to find underneath your Christmas tree, some of the items that were offered to humans are highly valued food sources for cetaceans such as dolphins.

A report describing this rare form of food sharing behavior in wild dolphins was published on December 4, 2012 in the journal Anthrozoös: A Multidisciplinary Journal of the Interactions of People & Animals.

Food sharing is a fairly common behavior among animals of the same species, but it is a much rarer phenomenon between animals that are from different species. Perhaps one of the best known examples of inter-species food sharing occurs in domesticated cats that have a tendency to drop prey items at their owner’s feet. Inter-species food sharing in wild animal populations has not been widely documented in the scientific literature.

There has been one observation of inter-species food sharing in false killer whales, a member of the dolphin family (Delphinidae). During an encounter that National Geographic photographer Flip Nicklin had in Hawaii, a false killer whale swam up to the photographer, released a large mahi mahi from its mouth and backed away. The photographer accepted the gift then, returned the fish to the whale. I suppose that is proper etiquette if a large cetacean offers you food while you’re in the water with it.

WATCH VIDEO: Dolphins invent a new way to hunt fish.

The wild dolphins that were observed giving gifts to human in Australia were regular visitors to a provisioning program at the Tangalooma Island Resort. The provisioning program was started in 1992, and each evening staff members from the resort wade into the ocean to feed the wild dolphins fish. The program is regulated by a permit issued by the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management.

In 1998, an adult male dolphin named Fred was observed giving a dead moray eel to one of the staff members. Since that first occurrence of gift giving behavior among the Tangalooma dolphins, staff members have documented an additional 22 other events.

Dolphins of diverse ages and both sexes engaged in the gift-giving behavior, and scientists are not entirely sure of what is motivating their behavior. Food sharing in animals is often motivated by an urge to play, a desire to reciprocate food sharing or the belief that the recipient of the food is an incompetent hunter.

Racoons are one of my favorate animals.
They look so playful and cute, and when caught doing something, they just stop and are still, as though if they dont move they wont be seen. :)
I heard noises outside our kitchen one night, and went to check as lately, several things had been found removed and found out at the back of our yard near the fence.
I was standing under a tree as I looked over the yard, when a noise caught my attention, there above me were three sweet ittle baby racoons, all looking very guilty and fearful.
There little faces watching mine.
Now I figured momma may be near so I quickly made my way back into the house. :)
But those three racoons remain in my memory, for the sweetness of their tiny furry bodies and the look of a child caught in the cookie jar upon their faces.
Those little masks they have must be God's humor shared. :)

God bless

Genesis 2:19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
I have always found this passage interesting. It delegates man's 'word' with descriptive authority while God's 'word' maintains creative power/authority. Yet man so often tries to cross that divide and become his own 'god' thru the occult, 'positive thinking' etc.

DOG, also known as doggy and often treated as 'master'.

I'm not a big dog person but I have to admit they probably come closest as to a living example of God's faithfulness through thick and thin.

A faithful dog has refused to leave the side of his dead master's grave for six years, it was reported today.

German shepherd Capitan ran away from home after the death of Argentinian Miguel Guzman in 2006.

A week later Mr Guzman's family went to pay their respects and found the heartbroken pet sitting by his owner's grave, wailing.

Loyal: Capitan has not left the side of Miguel Guzman's grave since 2006 - and sleeps on top of it every night

edit:

second thought, Bowman (duh zone).
Adam had to have named them all

1) before he was expelled
AND
2) before God created Eve!

that narrows the time substantially.
hmmm....

Yes,....it must have taken a very, very long time indeed.

The reason that I bring it up is that many who hold to each creation 'day' as being 24hrs simply does not fit with reality. As we know, both Adam and Eve were created on 'day' 6 - and Eve did not arrive onto the scene until after all animals had been named.

Must have taken a few billion years to let all the animals evolve. ;)

Well it does show that adam had enough memory to remember every animal he named, and to remember what name it belong to.

I'm such an animal nerd so I don't think I can pick just one!

I like big cats (like cheetahs, snow leopards, etc.), wolves, otters, hawks, bald eagles, horses (I draw horses, they're difficult but fun to draw!), foxes...

You get the point. :D I would have loved to have witnessed creation anyway, but to see Adam naming the animals (and see the ones we don't have today) would have been really neat.

the animals may have been split into smaller subcategories after the fall just as languages were split after the fall of the tower of babylon. therefore in the beginning there may have been less species of animals as we have now with the many names.

The Hebrew text indicates a very long passage of time...

Gen 2.22-23

And Yahweh Elohim formed the rib which He had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.
And the man said, This now at last is bone from my bones, and flesh from my flesh. For this shall be called Woman, because this has been taken out of man.

If it had only been a mere 24 hr period of time why would Adam have exclaimed 'At last!'...?

Adam also called his wife "woman" and named her "Eve". Not only was she Adam's wife, she was also his daughter.

no it doesn't. its like someone watching their friends get married one by one and finally they see the person God intends for them to marry and they exclaim "at last"

cuz all those animals Adam named had mates when Adam did not.

C'mon that's a stretch if I ever seen one. I can equally ask, 'If they weren't 24 hour days, why was the phrase 'evening and morning' used for each of the six days'?
Anyhow this thread is supposed to be about naming those little furrys.
