I think in that moment (Pentecostal day) was an evidence of the Holly Spirit. and also was usefull to share the gospel with other people who didnt speak the same language, i think Speaking tongues is a great gift but is only necessary when God needs to give us an special message.
Anyway the most important gift is THE LOVE. Without love we are nothing.

Sorry for my english LOL. God Bless you

your english is fine:
you must never forget that the devil can copy these gifts,
just to deceive. but knowledge and truth he can not.
that is why paul said if some one is apeaking in tongues, there must be one to interpret. or be quiet.

''wakeup''.

Acts 2:4 (Amplified Bible)
4And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit [a]kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].

yes they were all filled, and they received all the knowledge, because
of christs promise, before he left for heaven. i am speaking about the apostles.

4And they were all filled

He told me to look at the word all. They were ALL filled not some not those over there. They were all filled. Who was this verse talking about? It was talking about Christians. They were ALL filled. They all spoke in tongues not some All.

I would say if you don't speak then study. It is God praying through your surrendered body. Your surrendered mouth. Don't let mans teachings steal from you. If God said All he said it for a reason. Yes the teaching you have to speak in tongues to be saved is wrong. But if tongues was put into the bible then it is very important. If it is mentioned more than once it is very very important. God bless you ALL!

when a person is speaking in tongues,(genuine) God is speaking
through him to convey a message. someone must interpret.
if no one interprets; be careful. the devil can make a person
speak and mumble: the shamans in africa do that, when they are in trans.

''wakeup''.

My Aunt was going to some sort of Holiness Church. She was upset she could not speak in tongues, thought she was not spiritual and felt out of place. One day she figures she'd fake it. When someone interpreted her. She knew it was fake, and almost left God. Thank God she found another church.

well on an upbeat I meet a women locally who was healed by a service where the pastor was a very humble man who spoke in tongues and prayed over people. He did it for no money, does not advertise but simply preaches God's word in a one room church. She is like me and very skeptical being a former science teacher but she said she went in with an intense hip pain and simply sang and prayed and felt the Holy Spirit move in the church and heal her and others there.

there are a lot of fake and corrupted people out there who have perverted their spiritual gifts for the love of money or fame, (why do you think the prophets of old lived in the wilderness and wore camel hair?) but the HOLY SPIRIT is still alive and performing miracles every day.

Praise God's mercy and grace, May His Love reign forever.

It seems there are many opinions about the Spiritual gifts. I could write the list of the gifts also, but I listen for, the actual experiance of the different gifts or gift the person is referring to. Faith is one of the gifts of the Spirit, of which, God puts in each person of some measure, in hopes that person's faith might grow (my opinion). Someone here also mentioned, the enfilling of the the Holy Spirit, and the feelings of the experiance. My personal experiance of the enfilling of the Holy Spirit, may be different than others, as I actually felt the Spirit enter into my body, and was over powered by it's presents, I then felt like I was going to faint. It was awsome, but at the sametime, I asked God why He choose me, for I felt unworthy to recieve such a Gift. I have grown as a Christian and have had many other experiances, but I don't want to sound puffed up. It truely has been and still is a learning and growing time for me, for He has fed me the meat of His Word as I become more like Jesus. Love begets love, peace begets peace, and in these the is no hate.

I went to an AOG church in my youth and was told the same thing as you were.

Every Christian has the Holy Spirit in them (Rom 8:9)

But in England there is an Elim Pentecostal chuch. They be;lieve you do not have to speak in tongues as evidence that you are BAPTISED IN the Holy Spirit

My advice would be try not to get too hung up on this. I did in my youth and felt I wasn't good enough/worthy enough for God because I didn't THEN speak in tongues.

You are saved and kept and justified by faith in the son of God who loves you and gave himself for you, that is what gives you right standing with God, not whether you speak in tongues or not
Interesting is the book from David Pawson about this subject. And he is at the same point as you. It isn´t THE PROOF of baptising in the Holy Spirit.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the message boards so I'm sorry if I'm doing anything wrong in advance. I've started my path in faith at the end of last year and consider myself to be saved in God's eyes as of the beginning of this year. I started attending an Assembly of God church and have been going every Wednesday and Sunday for the past three months. I have also plowed through the bible this past winter so I knew what to look for when choosing a church. I find this church to be very biblical, but the only thing I have a problem with so far is the claim that speaking tongues is INITIAL EVIDENCE that you've been blessed with the holy spirit. In the book of Corinthians, chapter 14 I believe, it discusses the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but I do not see evidence that speaking tongues is necessary, just simply a gift. What is everyone's take on this? Any Assembly of God goers have thoughts, either?
Yes you will really have a problem with that..

been blessed with the holy spirit
In the AOG doctrine it states that speaking in tongues is the Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. It is not an evidence of being blessed with a Holy Spirit
It is a supernatural sign when a person is baptized with the Holy Spirit -
Acts 2:4 -
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

Acts 10:45-46 -
45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[a] and praising God.Then Peter said, --( even the early church identify speaking in tongues as the evidence of being baptized in the HS)

Mark 16:17 -
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; - (it is a physical sign)

In the book of Corinthians, chapter 14 I believe, it discusses the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but I do not see evidence that speaking tongues is necessary, just simply a gift
Speaking of the gift of tongue - your right - it is a gift - its main use is to edify oneself (1Cor14:4) and the church (1Cor 14:5).

The only thing that start with these confusion is when u fused the two subjects, although they are in the same essence.

Speaking in tongues as an initial physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is different from speaking in tongues as a gift.

Hope this will help...

Though I agree there is a difference between the Holy Spirit indwelling us all at conversion and the baptism of the Holy Spiorit, anmd I accept that in the majority of cases being baptised in the Spirit is evidenced by speaking in tongues, I do not believe as does AOG that once baptised in the Holy Spirit speaking in tongues will be evidence of this. And there is an obvious danger in this approach

People ask for the baptism in th Spirit. They are not then looking to God and trusting him for the Baptism but simply concentrating on and expecting to speak in tongues

Does God give you the spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law or because you believe what you heard

Gal 3:5

But it is not faith to receive through beliving the message if the individual is concentrating on and waiting to speak in tongues, and in realitty I know all too often this is what actually happens. I went to an AOG church for many years.

Biblically speaking if we ask we receive, we cannot stand on faith that we have received if we insist on speaking in tongues first and then we will believe

What could be therefore the evidence?
My apologies, that was worded wrongly
What I meant to say was. We do not have to speak in tongues as proof/evidence that we are baptised in the Spirit, or I believe to be baptised in the Spirit

speaking in tongues is the ability to talk to God and angels. you should pray in private anyway so how would people know?

only when you speak or pray for the whole church do you do it before the whole church and a interpertor is needed so the congregation will know the words and blessings that the person is speaking over them.

without Love all spiritual gifts are nothing but hubrus and pride. you should use your spiritual gifts under the direction of the HOLY SPIRIT and not to call attention to your greatness or even your unworthiness. it is for GOD's GLORY not mans that we are given spiritual gifts.

when in the presence of the Holy Spirit, I feel a sense of peace and the world glows brighter and knowledge is but a question away, and LOVE is unquestioned, you see people in prayer those suffering from unspeakable abuses, those who have lost hope in ever being heard and you get the message and answers to what YOU are praying about. (most of the time i pray about what to do with my life and how to answers questions concerning God)

then the presence moves on and the darkness comes and tries and steals your hope, your light and your happiness. It is a test, you are to rebuke the darkness even if it pretends to be an angel of light. do not listen to the lies but abide in the WORD of God.

before any one tries to poke holes in my shield of faith, i've heard the shadows whisper the lies in their ears.

that worries me why do people listen to the lies? why seek after spiritual experiences that are not rooted in the Bible. the WORD of GOD?

Shortcuts are dangerous, walk the path of Light and follow Jesus. walk in love not fear.

God says "FEAR NOT" test all spirits and see what fruit their words and actions bear.

Be diligent, my brethren for there is more happening then meets the fleshy eyes.

Of course we do not have to - there's no major rule for this that being baptized in the HS then u should speak in tongue -

Acts 2:4
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

- but if when you are truly baptized in the Holy Spirit and enabled to speak in tongues - then why not?
