The history channel has not been too kind in some of their other documentaries concerning the bible. I'll reserve my opinion until i see it.

It's produced by "Touched By an Angel" star Roma Downey and her husband; producer Mark Burnett ("Survivor","The Voice","The Apprentice"). I'll be watching and hoping that the bible is portrayed with accuracy.

It looks good but I wish they used a more realistic cast (many of them are too Caucasian). I suspect that they're shooting for a PG rating as I didn't see any blood, even when Goliath was struck in the temple and killed by David's pebble!

I usually find that Christians are so desperare in having a media presentation on the Bible or Jesus that even when secular sources give us a half baked bone we clamor head over heels for it even if it is chock full of errors.

I saw another trailer about this movie and I feel very skeptical towards it .. I saw some scenes with the actor who plays Jesus and he seemed so cool in a Hollywood style

It's not a movie, it's a TV series. Also, I've seen nothing in the trailers that suggests they're making Jesus look 'cool'. Can you please give some examples? Thanks

Oh, right ! TV series my bad
Well, to me almost every scene with the actor who plays Jesus gives me the so cool vibe . If I remember right , I also heard some lines , which were not actually taken from the Bible ..so this is another con for me
At first I was very excited about the TV series , but then I saw the trailers and I became skeptical
Anyway , I'm not a movie critic :) This is only my personal opinion about the mentioned TV series

My hubby and I are sceptical, as facts on the history channel are often twisted.
I do look forward to watching some of it, with bible handy to sheck facts.

After the history channel's documentory on Jesus maby just a regular man, and not being the son of God?
My sister now believes that Jesus was never the son of God. :(
So Im planning to be ready to speak to all false interpitations.
Sad how many will believe the documentory, simply because it is made, even sadder that so many, have not read enough of of the bible, to recognise the lies.
I hope and pray Ive read enough mself.

God bless

I think we should just watch it then determine if it is accurate or not. Arguing about something that hasnt even been watched yet is kinda pointless isnt it?

I didn't know we were arguing.

I only have one question. Why is Jesus always British in these shows?

I also hope they portray the Books of the Maccabees in the show, as they along with 1-4 Kings are arguably the best sections of the Bible to make into an entertaining TV series.

I will say that they haven't been all bad. Their documentary on the Shroud of Turin convinced practically every slightly religious person that watched it that the Shroud is real (which I believe it is anyway).

I can almost say for certain that there will be no books of the Apocrypha included in the series.

I studied history and political science in college, and as a lifelong history buff I love the history channel. I can watch and read (and have watched and read) sources that do not necessarily present the truth as I see it. It only strengthens my argument when I am backed up with facts. It's funny. I watched the documentary on Jesus and found it fascinating. I did not agree with it's conclusions, but the research was well done and well presented. That doesn't mean that I question my faith...quite the opposite. Same for the Shroud.

For those of us who see the Bible as truth...it is, by and large, a history book of our relationship with God. For those who don't believe, it is just an old book of superstitions. But they are never able to answer completely this question. With all the ancient superstitious books and beliefs...why does this one survive and thrive? Why hasn't it simply faded into oblivion with other ancient "holy" texts and beliefs?

That's a hard question. Is it just more well-written? Is it possible that there is a part in all of us that reaches to know God just as he reaches to us?

I'm looking forward to the series...even if they don't present it exactly as I see it when I read. And if the show causes even one person to look further into the "story", and they are able to find God, then it will be a beautiful addition to man's continued quest to understand our greatest work of literature.

I have personally worked with 2 production companies for the History Channel. At both sets they had 2 or 3 history professors on set. They do a great job. No matter how well they do someone will disagree. Sooo I will just watch and find out.
