Jesus went up to the feast when he said he was not going and went in secret.

:) But this isn't AA, this is the Body of Christ, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14), and would you want it to be? We are meant to be seen. We are representing Christ, and we should be proud of that! We give NO room to darkness!

Luke 11:33 "No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light.

Luke 8:17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.
AA was formulated and brought into existence to help those lost in the dark to find the Light of the world and come out of their life of sin. The whole purpose of the 12 steps is to bring people to the knowledge of God, to develop and maintain a relationship with the One true God. The Body of Christ is alive and well in the rooms of AA, where people are not chased away by being preached at, but by being welcomed with open arms and invited to keep coming back no matter how many times they have fallen down, or how far they they fell.

I did not say AA. There are hundreds of 12 step fellowships fashioned after the original 12 steps. The first steps were originally borrowed and developed from an evangelical group known the Oxford Group.

I honestly don't know much about the group, and certainly wouldn't advocate for it because of that. A little google search and you can find some information on why one should stay away from it. I'll just stick with the word of God in the Bible. Scripture contrasts darkness and light, good and evil.

The level of anonymity in those rooms, not anonymity like nobody knows who you are but the type of confidentiality that is fostered because there is a code of conduct, helps people to trust that what they share in those rooms will stay in those rooms. We can tell the stories but leave the names. That kind of anonymity. And the stories people tell, the truth of how far they fell down in their life, how far they went to burn their lives to the ground while they chased their demons... the level of honesty, the courage, the transparency, the naked unadorned emotions, all contribute to an environment where you know you are not really worse than and certainly no better than anyone else, and it is safe for you to be likewise as honest. It is a process not unlike peeling an onion ;) People do get to know you. They see you. Sometimes better than you can see yourself. And that is a blessing.

If you needed help with any one of the hundreds of issues the 12 steps have been adapted to deal with, I would encourage you to seek out a group to help you as opposed to going by what some cursory google search showed you. This is twenty seven years experience talking, not some anonymous google result. The only one I would not recommend is the one called rational recovery. Atheists were so smart they decided to remove the solution (God) from the solution.

The world knows who they are outside of this group. Anonymous Christians are hiding their identities in Christ from the world.

Identy theft, the theif cometh not but for to steal kill and destroy.
Jesus was crucified. Jesus identity has been stolen a lot, actually. People claiming to be Him trying to get followers. False christs. But it didn't scare Jesus. Didn't stop Him.

Mark 13:22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Angels show us they do not always reveal their names (even when asked)

Judges 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him,

Why askest thou thus after my
name, seeing it is secret?

And Jesus gave James and John a nick name, "Sons of Thunder"

Nothing evil in that at all.

1 John 1:5-7 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
And yet the Bible says God uses darkness; so it must not be evil.

Btw Jesus' identity was hidden from his disciples when he encountered them on the road to Emmaus.

He came to them anonymously. Anonymous =/= evil.

Our right hand is even supposed to be anonymous to our left hand when we do a good deed. :)

Psalm 18:11 He made darkness his secret place;
his pavilion round about him
were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

Psalm 92:2 Clouds and darkness are round about him:
righteousness and judgment
are the habitation of his throne.

there's no darkness inside him, but outside of him, if he wants darkness there, then there it is. same as wherever he wants light.

"""And Jesus gave James and John a nick name, "Sons of Thunder""

Nicknames. We still know, and so did everybody else they were James and John.
Btw, when you add your name to your account, make sure it's the whole thing and not just the first part. Full names!
