Christianity is not a dictatorship but a love relationship.

Everything Christians do should be done out of love for our Lord.
Yeah that's nice sounding and true, but Jesus still commanded things.
So the question is, are Christians directed/obligated/commanded/whatever word you want to choose for God saying to do it, to be physically circumcised?

You are asking that we fit scripture into computer like answers and it can't be done. Scripture speaks in spirit and truth, and how that relates to the physical world. It will not translate into purely yes/no, on/off sort of computer thought.
No, commands and obligations God asks of us are simple yes and no.
This is not difficult.

Should Christians commit adultery? NO
Should Christians murder? NO
Should Christians steal? NO

I'm not imposing a computer like answer by asking those three questions, and I'm not imposing a computer like answer by asking this...

Are Christians obligated to/commanded to/directed to/whatever word you choose to say God told us to do it, be physically circumcised.

Please don't obfuscate by asking..."Is it wrong for Christians to be circumcised?"
That's a totally different topic.
No there is nothing wrong if one chooses that.

So again..
Are Christians obligated to/commanded to/directed to/whatever word you choose to say God told us to do it, be physically circumcised?

The answer is a big NO. In fact, Paul was very clear about it.

1 Corinthians 7:19 "Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God's commands is what counts."

Christians are not forbidden to get physically circumcised for physical reasons- only for religious reasons. Because if you are doing it in order to obey the law of Moses the bible commands that you have to then obey all of the law of Moses (good luck finding a 2,000 year old high priest to sacrifice for your sins).

In the same way no one can force you to get physically circumcised for religious reasons because we are not under the law of Moses.

We are under the law of Christ. And Christ has circumcised our hearts at the moment of baptism. (Colossians 2:11,12)

Paul settled this centuries ago. Why debate over something that's already been dealt with?

So if someone you were discipling came to you and asked...

Am I obligated to by physically circumcised?

What would you answer with?

Would you have an answer?
Put that way I would say I believe in the holy word of the Lord, and it says that we are not obliged to be physically circumcised. The word goes on to explain that when the Jews of Symaria said they were circumcised based on a physical circumcision only, they were speaking falsely. The physical act without any of the spirit and truth has never been true circumcision.

At the same time, there is nothing in the word against using physical circumcision as a reminder or symbol of the real thing.

i'm still trying to figure out how we can have 46 replies on this topic before someone quotes this verse:

Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised.
Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised.

(1 Corinthians 7:18)

seems pretty clear to me..?

Yes, Paul explained this to us over and over, and to this day many cannot and will not listen to Paul. They aren't listening to scripture. They are still making a big deal about physical circumcision. The Jews started it by saying if you were circumcised spiritually (as scripture tells us to be) you HAD to also do it symbolically. The gentiles read Paul as saying the physical circumcision has such importance that if you do it even symbolically you are denying Christ. That is also wrong. We are to understand all God has given us in scripture about this, from the first time God told man to do it through to how the Jews in Symaria misused physical circumcision.

You are right, listening to Paul would settle it, but as far as I can see, no one is listening.

I don't think scripture forbids Christians from being physically circumcised.
That is not the scope of this thread.

The scope of this thread is...
Scripture does not obligate Christians to be physically circumcised.
Scripture does not command Christians to be physically circumcised.
Scripture does not direct Christians to be physically circumcised.

I guess this discussion can be answered easily.

Are Christians obligated, commanded, directed to be physically circumcised?

I honestly don't know of any Christians who think Christians are obligated, commanded or directed to be physically circumcised.

Am I wrong?
Why bring it up when the original intention (even in the law) was to be circumcised in the heart? So what the purpose of circumcision is, is to multiply God's kingdom. It's a parable or metaphor in the spiritual principles it was originally intended for us to comprehend. Putting Old Testament law and New Testament grace together, issued to us from the same unchangeable love of God, I present the following scriptures.

Deuteronomy 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

Deuteronomy 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

Colossians 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

Romans 2:28-19
28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly ; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly ; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

The letter of the law is physical. The spirit of the law is Spiritual

Continuing from post 50. I didn't get it all in.
The *letter of the law is physical. The spirit of the law is Spiritual understanding of the *letter.

Not as I see it, but then, that's just me. However, parents who choose to have a male child circumcised for medical/health purposes are not condemning that child to the judgment of the Law/death either. Ok, now, that really is just me, so......

There is no direct Commandment for male children born into the Church to be circumcised........albeit, I have not read any other comment than the OP.............so..........someone may have found something I have not.....
