Eph 1:10
Eph 3:2
Col 1:25

In the KJV, MKJV, and the ESV the word dispensation is used. In the KJV-1611 and the Textus Receptus it is administration.
Dispensation is the english word of the greek word οἰκονομίαν (Oikonomia pronounced oy-kon-om-ee'-ah)

Both definitions are a match; administration (of a household or estate); specifically a (religious) economy: - dispensation, stewardship.

Dispensationalism is a way to say that God has different ways of dealing with mankind at different periods of time. For example the way the Lord dealt with Adam and Eve, to how He dealt with Noah were completely different, also to how He dealt with the Jew under the law. He also did this while never changing because the Lord is the same today as yesterday as He will be tomorrow.

The easiest way to explain this is (I see you also are an American so some of this is for the benefit of others) The United States elects a president who is a democrat who is in office for 8 years. He runs the country how he sees fit (whether we agree or not ) After his 8 year term limit is up, we elect a republican, who runs the country completely differently the way he sees fit. They both have very different ways of dealing with situations, and the economy, yet they both are still under the same Constitution of the United States which does not change.

The ultimate purpose of dispensationalism is to determine who/how/when the Lord is dealing with mankind and rightly dividing them to avoid confusion and mixing up of doctrines.

God Bless.
Yes, and i would add;
Dispensation; meaning a bracket of time.

It even says the fullness of time.

When they went to kill Jesus,it is said "But they could not because his time was not yet come"

"the time of the gentiles fulfilled" is a dispensation. Merely a time frame. No bogey man.

What purpose does dispensationalism serve?
What is the whole point of it?
It is an easy way of separating different periods of time in history.. Only in this case biblical history.. So it is easier to understand different time periods.

They themselves have to either get dishonest,or cut things completely out of the word.

.......as in the millennium. As if it were not a specific period of time for a specific purpose. ( a dispensation)

remove dispensational thinking, and remove one of the most important aspects of hermenuetics, Which is historical perspective.. What was God trying to do at that time,, Who was he speaking to. etc etc....

They tell us "there is an agenda behind the word "dispensation"

"It's a bogey man"

Then we find out they have no clue to what it means.

Thats what happens with most arguments against doctrines,, the one apposing the doctrine 99 % of the time does not understand what it even is..

Which is why really not worth arguing over..

You nailed it sir.

When you look at the geneologies,we find that each one ,IN IT'S TIME, was key in making a pinpoint in time for the appearance of the saviour.

Timing is God's deal. He operates in timing.Just like a piece of music,it is corrupted if the timing is off.

First of all I completely and totally believe in different dispensations. The Lord is dealing with people in different ways at different time periods throughout history. I have no clue why people says the bible doesn't teach it. It is all there in black and white. The Apostle Paul gave us instructions on handling and understanding the word of God when in 2 Timothy 2:15 that we are to rightly divide the word of truth. What in the world does this mean and why use the word "divide". Because all of the bible is written FOR us and our learning but it was not all written TO us. This is the main reason people get screwed up in their theology. In Peter he instructs the believer to understand and walk in the present truth. Now why is that? Because the present truth today Jesus died and rose and we are given eternal life when we believe that by faith. NO WORKS INVOLVED. But if you went back to Adam and Eve's time...what was the present truth? If someone told Adam the gospel he would have been lost. His present truth was do not eat of the tree of good and evil. If they had churches back in the day, that is what pastor would be preaching....DO NOT EAT OF THAT TREE. ok, fast forward to Moses and the law. During that dispensation, they were required to follow the law both moral and ceremonial. God was dealing these people under the law for about 1500 years. The law had it's purpose, it was to bring man to the end of himself so he understands how much he need GRACE. Of course, now we are in the grace dispensation and it will last until the rapture. I think covenant theology is wrong and dangerous and many of them believe that the church replaced Israel. That is impossible. God cannot lie and he made an everlasting covenant with Israel, he will fulfill it. I probably just confused you all the more but basically that is the long and short of it.

Although I would say that Adam heard the Gospel (good news) after he fell (Gen 3:15) and the Israelites, though given the law, were never saved by the law.

Tessy, I've been preaching rightly dividing and dispensations ever since I joined, but there's not many who understand. Most want to reconcile all Scripture together without making any divisions.

Thank you Tessy for your devotion to the word. It's so freeing when you finally get it. No more trying to fit the square peg into the round hole.

BibleGuy... first things first. posted Psalm 119:142. In answer to this first, it appears that you misunderstand the word, "law" in this passage. Throughout Psalm 119 we see words such as... "law, statutes, precepts, testimonies, commandments, ordinances, etc" these refer to His Word, to THE Word who Christ is. Not to The "Law of Moses". And with that in mind, re-read Psalm 119 with Christ The Word in Mind as David was not only a man after God's own heart but a man of "faith". As we, The Body of Christ are after the "faith" of Abraham, even as unto Sarah the New, unlike Hagar the old. better promises my brother and thus what David also was referring to. David was referring to God's Word and His promises, not The Law of Moses. Christ brings a better Covenant, New and Everlasting. Amen.

I still believe that if you think a certain thing in the Bible does not apply to you, you should rip that page out. The Word is eternal and as such every single word of it was written to every single one of us. That is what I find wrong with dispensationalists; not that they believe God dealt with man differently thru different time periods, but that so many of them believe only the dispensation of this time period means anything.

Us dispensational thinkers like to know who is being referred to and right now I'm not sure who you are referring to

For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
1 Thes 4:7

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do
for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:15-16

In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.
Eph 2:21

Everything comes together when you start to consider where we are headed for.

The presence of the Father.

But do you know Him? Is He really the one you follow, or are you willing to buy into a cope out?

Jesus is brutal, really brutal.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
John 6:54

I have heard people say God is not a God of ceremony, or ritual, or elaborate arrangements.

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands,
and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures
and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea,
and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be praise and honor and glory and power,
for ever and ever!”
The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Rev 5:11-14

There is so much unbelief and setting rules or concepts, rather than standing in
awe at who God is and how he works.

There has never been dispensations, there has only ever just been God.
The message has been layers of understanding of His intentions and ways of
being without dictating it, just laying it out in the interactions with real people.

You can argue with ideas, but not with historical lives of people. That is Gods
way of teaching us and we are very very stupid.

So who is guilty of sin? Who has failed to understand or listen?
Who needs to repent and bow our knees?

Oh Lord forgive us because we are a people who know so little and expect so much.
May you bring wisdom to our hearts and humbleness to learn of you and walk in
obedience to your ways, Amen

Ok, my nasb says in 1 Timothy 2:15 to accurately handle the word of truth. That sounds like a whole different meaning than to accurately divide the word of truth.
Anybody want to post the Greek word and it's meaning? I don't do this yet.
