It depends on one's belief of the Holy Spirit. I believe He is God, so I would venture to say "Yes", the Holy Spirit can forgive sins.

Yes I do. I believe the Holy Spirit is straight from Jesus, Jesus From God. All in 1.

It is not the job of the Holy Spirit to forgive sins. The job of the Holy Spirit is to convict of sin and point us to Christ who shed His blood and was crucified for sin so that we could be forgiven and cleansed from all sin by the Father through the Son. That is the revelation of the truth of the written word that the Spirit reveals to the heart of man concerning forgiveness of sin and there is no other revelation!

Believers are to pray IN the Holy Spirit , but there are those that for some reason feel a greater spirituality if they can justify praying TO the Holy Spirit and claim to have that liberty and revelation given to them of the Spirit. They look for others to justify that for them through some kind of consensus and want very much to preach it or continue to preach it as a deeper doctrine that comes from the deep things of God. Believers are to be guided in truth by the Spirit (Jn 16:13), walk and be led in the Spirit (Gal 5:16,18,25), be filled with the Spirit (Eph 5:18), pray in the Spirit (Eph 6:18) and be convicted by truth through the words of Christ that the Spirit brings to our remembrance (Jn 16:8, 14:17,26, 15:26, 16:13). When you read the following verse you get an idea that that the Spirit identifies with us as our companion in yearning for the return of Christ in (Rev 22:17,20)...

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

The Holy Spirit, the third personality of the trinity, forgives sins because He is God.

I believe the Holy Spirit is God, as I believe Jesus is God (in flesh), and I believe God forgives sins.

You can believe what you want, i asked for a verse to help me understand, you dont have one (I'm sad)

BUT the bible does tell the deciples could forgive sins......NOW theres scripture for that..Jn 20:21

THE bible also tells Jesus has the authority to for give sins given from God Matt 9:6

AND if you really want to learn, GOD doesnt Judge mankind, that work is given to His Son Jn 5:22

I just cant find a single scripture RE: the Holy Spirit forgiving sins......BUT Trying to learn......

Accurate knowledge builds faith, I need more ACCURATE answers

i believe the holy spirit and Jesus are both mainfestations of God, however it would still feel awkward to me to pray TO the holy spirit (which I would have to I guess to ask it to forgive sins). The bible is clear that the Holy Spirit, and Jesus, borth pray FOR us though.

So I tend to pray TO God, hopefully IN the holy spirit, by the NAME of Jesus.

Btw: Jesus already took away our sin, and Jesus is our mediator, so why pray to anyone else than God? Why not go straight to the source? :)

The job of the Holy Spirit is to bring us to Jesus and convict the world of sin. The role of Jesus is to forgive us of sin through the sacrifice of His blood and lead us to God the Father who will judge the world of sin. But they are the same person with three different roles. Look at water, it has three roles, a liquid, a solid (ice) and a gas (steam). If your self. You are a child, you may be or one day will be a husband/wife and you may be or one day be a father/mother. You are still the same person but you have 3 different personalities/roles.

Only through Jesus and what He did are we saved. The Spirit has a different purpose. Yes they are all one in spirit but the each have specific purpose.

I believe some things are self-evident. I believe in just one God—not three. “Holy Spirit” is one of his names. God forgives:

[14] For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you;
[15] but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matt 6:14-15 RSV

the Holy Ghost is not a created being, it is God.

Father = God's mind
Holy Spirit = God's Spirit
Christ = God's word

The Holy Spirit is the power or force of God....see in Gen how it works.

If its God, why dont you see it on the THRONE with God and Christ......why 2 and not 3? any answer?

Why is an antichrist one who denies the Father and the Son? the scriptures never mention the holy Spirit as part of the Antichrist why?

Why didnt Jesus ever pray tot he HS? Not once

Theres even a question you cant answer in Prov 30:4 its the last question. AND why isnt the HS there?

I can go on and on to show your error, but its not to prove you wrong but to help you see the truth

To WALK with God is a Pleasure, keep your eyes on the truth.....SMILE

I think you said GOD is ONE not 3, yet you claim he has different names? any verse to help me understand that?

I said God doesnt Judge mankind. thats told in Jn 5:22 I think.....it might be wise to read it tho.

Since you seem to have a wide discription of forgivness, can YOU name the angel in Ex 23:20-21? you can GUESS if you want....He forgives also
