Yes he was addressing salvation issues, as look at his opening scripture in 3;

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

He is saying he needed to write to them concerning salvation because that they needed to contend for the faith, and not fall for the deceptions of the false teacher or their fate will be as such as those like those in the wilderness.

Ken,

Jude is speaking of salvation already obtained not of salvation to be acquired.

He is exhorting those who are saved to oppose false doctrine.

I am not slicing up the word of God;

What does they were blotted out of the book of Life mean to you ?
Forgive my jumping into a question not directed to me!

Careful reading of what is said about the Book of Life seems to indicate that everyone starts life in the book
and remains there until God is persuaded that they are beyond redemption.

Much is said about being blotted out; but nothing is said about being written in.

Anyone thinking his salvation may be gained by works does not know Jesus Christ. Anyone who knows Jesus Christ and believes Him will not be able to restrain himself from doing good works. Faith without works is dead. This is making reference to works of the new man and the spirit within him.-

Your problem is being able to distinguish between no MERCYunder the law and the physical death for sin found under the law and the grace and mercy found in the N.T. as opposed to the lack of mercy found under the O.T. law

Yes but the story of the Exodus was the were saved by God, and in His favor until they turned back away to the false idol.
If they would have stayed in His favor, or like Paul mentioned in Romans 11:22 continued in His kindness, they would have ended up with salvation. Because they did not and turned back to idol worship they were destroyed and blotted out of the book of Life......

As dcon said, the judgment found under the Law is negated by the grace of God through faith. You cannot compare fickle, spiritually adulterous Israel to the wandering saint who, under grace, occasionally allows the flesh to be resurrected.

God's illustration through Israel of continued love and blessing despite disobedience is a mere foreshadowing of the grace He now shows through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. When you grasp that, I firmly believe you will abandon the heretical teachings of works-based salvation that naturally leads to belief in the falsehood that one can lose his/her salvation.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[SUP]9[/SUP] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

This is really the only verses we need to expose the heresy of a works-based religion. of course there's going to be a lot of stuff in the bible that exhorts us and admonishes us and councils us on how to live and what we must do to serve the Lord after we're saved. But the only thing that saves us is belief in Jesus, accepting His blood sacrifice for us on the cross and believing that God raised Him from the dead. And if our works can't save us in the first place, then they also can't keep us saved. We're saved forever without works because of our Faith in Jesus. Once saved, always saved. Jesus keeps us saved.
