Did you miss the part where I said he needs to study on his own and not the opinions of others? Especially when there has been false info given about the congregation he is currently attending. And yes, some here have been a little persistent to tell him what type of church to attend.
No I didn't miss that I should been more specific, I was talking about when you said

Rob, every person in this thread is going to tell you to attend the church they go to because they think theirs is the "right" one

Whether one wants to deny it or not that is the truth. Have you seen the debates on this site? We all think we are "right". All I was saying was to study personally and not
depend on others. What's so wrong with that?

I stopped trusting people with a Bible a long time ago because I started reading the word and doing the math so to speak.

There are few to depend on. Most of them run away when it becomes evangelism or study time. I want someone that can seriously study the Bible.

That's very possible. I do believe I've felt God while at a Catholic men's night with adoration and confession. And also at a Poor Clares monastery here in town for adoration. So I wonder why I always fall away.
Rob I was thinking about what the right answer for you might be, and after reading what you said here, and after asking God for guidance, my suggestion is this: You've already mentioned that you have felt God in Adoration on two different occasions. Well why not find a local church that has Adoration (many have 24 hour adoration, you just need to find out), and go there, maybe for an hour once a week, or whatever you want, and ask God in Adoration to guide you. I can honestly say that in my 8 years since coming back to my faith, I have never left Adoration without feeling consoled and loved by God. Without it I know I wouldn't have come as far as I have today. That's just my suggestion! :)

I do often feel drawn back to the Catholic Church. That's a pretty good idea. I've always like adoration. I did just email someone I know from my AA district yesterday who may know a priest who is in the AA program I could talk to. I also text back and forth with the priest from a local parish by me that I've also met with a few times. Maybe I'll start there.

Not sure where this topic fits, so I'll put it here. I've been looking for a church for years. I never seem to find one that seems to keep me coming back. I was raised catholic and made a few attempts at returning. I've also been to, baptist, Presbyterian, non denominational, churches of christ, Lutheran. I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but I keep seeking. I like in depth bible study which I really only found at church of christ. But feel like something is missing. Or I have trouble conforming to what they say about attending and no instruments in worship. It seems like I want to take a little of every denomination and put it together. Also I've been told certain churches are the one true church and all others aren't saved. That makes me constantly wonder if I'm in the right place. Just wondering i guess what church you like and why.
I have not read through this thread, but I feel it is right I should put an answer. This may have been mentioned, I don't know, but there is only "One Church". It is Jesus Church. It is the "Bride of Christ". There are no denominations or separated members within this Church, there may be churches that meets at such and such a place but the geographical location is the only difference.

For one to say we are right and they are wrong is down to 'man' it is not of the Spirit, and the Spirit is the best place to start. Do you know you have received the Holy Spirit? From this question there are two options, yes or no.

If it is "I think so" then it is no and you need to do something about it and I will deal with this first. The 'I think so' bit will usually come from a childhood experience that you may have been part of but not understood. There is a saying within the church that 'God does not have grand children'. This means that if we went to church with our parents and have followed through to adult hood with out making a separate cognitive choice to follow Jesus and are doing it because we always have, or it just feels right or comfortable, we are not children but grandchildren and God does not have those.

To be a child means to have made the choice to be in Him and have Him in us, which is why we can call God Abba or Daddy, which is the call of a child.

If you have ever made the personal choice to receive Him and have told Him (the Holy Spirit) that you give Him free entry into your whole being with no restrictions within yourself, for Him to enter you and change you as He sees fit then you will have Him, He may be suppressed because that is our choice, but He will be there in this case the answer will be 'Yes'.

As for finding a church that fits what you know of Him, I feel within me that there will not be one. I went to loads after my conversion trying to find the voice that spoke to my heart, a few had an echo of that voice and I plumbed for the one that showed me more love than the others (all showed me love, but some were dependant on hoops or an assault course to run through).

God has bought me now, to a place where I can go to any as I see fit, I do break bread with others at every opportunity, even when they visit me at home. I know they all think I should make a choice , but the Holy Spirit has not condemned me for the way I am now, in fact He has led me to where I am.

In and by His Holy Spirit you to will know where you are or are not to be, through His Spirit that resides within you. Listen to Him. Be comfortable where you are and trust in Him to do what He says He will. I have not meant to be condescending in my answer to your post, and for those parts that may seem so I apologise.
God bless.

I'm in the same boat. I was born and raised in the Catholic Church. I left the Catholic Church when i was 20 years old. I have been searching for a church for years now. I refuse to return to the Catholic Church. The only way i will return to the Catholic Church is when they turn their backs on Mary, return to the Scriptures only, and accept God only.

The reason you are having troubles in finding a church is you are hung up to much on the yourself. Instead you need to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you to a church.

The ONLY requirement for the church is that they ONLY follow and Worship God! It does not matter about how they do the service as long as they have God first in their lives.

There are things I like about coc and things I dislike. But that goes for all churches I've tried. I won't find one that is exactly what I'm looking for. So I will try and find one that keeps me wanting more. But I need to find faith myself, by reading the bible and praying. And not expecting a church to generate my faith for me. It has to come from me. The coc I had gone to had about 7 members that met in a rented mini mall space. It just didn't feel right.
I attended about 10 different churches when we first moved here...one Sunday morning, different on evening, bible studies at various ones throughout the a week...in the end I let my husband chose because I found great people in all of them....

7 members seem kind of small, maybe find a bigger congregation?

Will pray you find a church to grow and be a part of the Body of Christ to,help the world see Jesus as Savior.

well my friend sadly there is a lot of division in the churches these days satans at work with this I suggest pray an pray a lot you don't need a church to do a self check if your inline with God you read his word a cross check if your heart an actions are inline then while continuing to pray and even fast an pray showing God your serious ask his spirit to lead you to a church that manifests unity in the spirit and preaches from the word and not just talk and praises his holy name God will lead you all you have to do is ask him...God bless an I pray you find what he wants for you...Amen

I was raised Catholic and I was lead by the Spirit to question some things. To make a long story short I have prayed and the Holy Spirit has lead me to the Church I belong denominations are a way the enemy attacks us. I'm a Christian doesn't Mayer the worship style Just as long as the Message of salvation is Christ Alone ( saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ according to Scrioture all for the Glory of God)

I'm trying to find a church too. It's hard to find one it seems. Seems like I have to settle for less than I deserve or want where a church and congregation are concerned, and I don't like settling if I can help it.

I cannot call this a denomination, however if anyone wants to follow Jesus Christ in Spirit and truth more readily, think in terms of having that "faith of Abraham" taught by Jesus Christ......If you have this, you are capable of fellowshipping with all who call upon the name of Jesus Christ in spirit and truth, regardless of their denomination, for Jesus Christ is none of those......how do I know this? They are not in the Book! Praise Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior...amen. (go cCubs)
