And how does Matt 18.18-20 relate to the fruit of abiding in the Vine spoken of in John 15?

Here is the discussion:

You stated that the fruit of John 15 is about making disciples.

Is that what you believe Father (as Husbandman) and the Lord Jesus Christ (as Vine) works in the life of the believer (branch) --- the fruit of my abiding in the Vine is other believers I bring to the Lord Jesus Christ to the point where they, too, are disciples?
You are catching on.....Who or What was Jesus Fruit?

The church does not make disciples, small groups do not make disciples, Sunday school does not make disciples....Those who abide in the vine and grow fruit make disciples...

John 15.16
[SUP]16 [/SUP]You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

What is fruit that remains?

Well, to be fair brother, fruit can denote plural.
It's really talking about the different aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit.
The English may be ambiguous but the Greek word used in Gal 5:22 is 'karpos' which is absolutely unambiguously in the singular.
The fruit is singular but has nine flavours...

I still do not believe the fruit which the Lord Jesus Christ, as the Vine, produces in our lives is the people we bring to maturity in Christ (disciples).

I believe the fruit which the Lord Jesus Christ produces in our lives is what we hold out for all the world to see. We don't produce the fruit ... all we do is hold it forth. The fruit is produced by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Like the grape on the vine. Does the branch "produce" the grape? Or is the branch the conduit through which the vine provides the sap (nourishment) for the fruit?

And people who see the fruit of the Vine and the working of the Husbandman in our lives and who want the same in their lives are then drawn to the Lord Jesus Christ. We then hold forth the gospel. But we are not responsible for making another person believe and continue in belief to the point of becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. We work hand-in-hand with Father and with Christ to help others. But if a person who I have worked with does not continue in faith (to use your example — my fruit does not remain), that does not mean I am not abiding in the Vine (John 15:4) or that the Vine is not producing fruit in my life (John 15:5).

Blessings to you, also.

And I would also like to clarify a statement I made in Post #43.

I wrote: "I still do not believe the fruit which the Lord Jesus Christ, as the Vine, produces in our lives is the people we bring to maturity in Christ (disciples)."

Clarification: We do not bring others to maturity. All we do is help others and direct them to the Lord Jesus Christ. We plant / water. God brings the increase.

1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

The word "increase" is the Greek word auxanō. From Helps Word-studies:

837 auksánō – properly, grow (increase); become greater in size (maturity, etc.).
837 /auksánō ("to grow") is key to authentic discipleship. Indeed, the Lord requires non-stop progress (development) in the life of faith.

Honest question, are you confusing sharing the gospel or "witnessing" with making disciples?

The Bible says we are responsible for maturing and equipping the body of Christ, right? Eph 4.12

Once God has the increase, we no longer help people grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ?

The word "increase" is the Greek word auxanō.

And it means what? hint- it is not harvest as many teach...it means to grow or increase

Who are we growing and increasing and will that mature them in Christ?

Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ

The word "perfecting" in Eph 4:12 is the Greek word katartismos (from katartizō). Katartismos means complete furnishing, equipping. Katartizō means to render, i.e. to fit, sound, complete; to mend (what has been broken or rend), to repair; to fit out, equip, put in order, arrange, adjust; ethically: to strengthen, perfect, complete, make one what he ought to be.

In agreement that the Lord Jesus Christ, as Head of His body (the church) gives apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers in order equip each member of His body with what is needed in order that each member is prepared for the work of the ministry, for the edifying (building up) of the body of Christ.

But as far as maturing each individual believer? That is the work of God as He brings the increase in the heart of each child of His when that child hears God's Word and takes it into his/her heart.

I provided a definition of the word from HELPS[SUP]TM[/SUP] Word-studies. See Post #45.

We are not "growing and increasing" anyone. That is God's job.

According to 1 Cor 3:6, we plant / water:

1 Corinthians 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

Who are we? We are only ministers (servants) by whom others hear God's Word.

1 Corinthians 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

We plant, which to me means we speak God's Word and the person to whom we are speaking has never before heard whatever part of God's Word we are sharing.

We water, which to me means we speak God's Word and the person to whom we are speaking has heard whatever part of God's word we are sharing.

But God gives the increase, which to me means that it is God Who works in the heart of the person to whom we are speaking and it is God Who causes that which we have spoken to take root and sprout and grow in that person's heart.

1 Corinthisans 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Here it is again repeated that God gives the increase. God causes the Word which we speak to others to grow and increase. He works within and brings the Word to maturity in the lives of His children. I do not mature you, nor do you mature me. You and I speak God's Word to each other and God works within my heart and God works within your heart to bring increase, growth, maturity.

1 Corinthians 3:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

He or she planting and watering are one. All we are doing is speaking God's Word. When I speak God's Word to someone, I have no idea whether they have heard before. If they have not heard, I am "planting". If they have heard before, I am "watering" that which has already been "planted" by someone who spoke to the person before.

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

We work together with God. I just love this verse. To imagine that I am a co-worker with God.

Our heart is a Vesel, how many % we give room to Holy Spirit. How much we spent time with the Lord, Will determinated the growth of the fruit
