The problem with saying that the biblical canon we know today was to preserve and only use writings of the apostle's is because not all the apostle's writings are n the bible.
There are a number of problems in your post, and other things that I'd like you to clarify, but out of respect for the OP, I'm going to let Sirk post and move the thread back on topic. If you want, we can take this private, start a new thread, or wait until this one's run its course. Ta!

The problem with saying that the biblical canon we know today was to preserve and only use writings of the apostle's is because not all the apostle's writings are n the bible. However it is well known through historical studies that James ( half brother of Jesus ) did not believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior tell crucifixion yet his book is in the bible. Plus the other thing is that most only attribute the title of apostle to the main twelve listed by name, however they forget about the scripture in Luke 10 that says He appointed 70 others. Also Paul became an apostle after Jesus died on the cross, as well as others that were appointed as mentioned in acts. Also in acts it talks about a number of 120 that were in attendance.

So to say to be an apostle they had to be taught directly by Jesus is not true, for others after Jesus had been crucified were still given the title. They attribute this to an apostle is one who follows and teaches, as a disciple is one who follows and learns.
I don't know if this is true or if it isn't but even if it is, why is that a problem? He obviously wrote the book of James sometime after Jesus resurrection.

According to scripture there are 5 ways that God communicates with us. I'll get us started

1) His written word- the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16) All scripture is God Breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be equipped for every good work.
2)The counsel of the Godly Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is the people fall but in the multitude of counselers there is safety. Proverbs 19:20 Listen to advice and accept discipline and at the end you will be counted among the wise.

3)Circumstances Philippians 4:10-13 I'll let you look this one up cuz I'm too lazy to type it out...haha

4) My sanctified desires ( Psalm 4:10-13) Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of you heart.

and last but not least

5) supernatural means
a)dreams Genesis 37:5-11
b)Visions while awake (Genesis 15:1-6) <<<<<<one needs to be most careful when relying on ANY of these.
c)Angels (matthew 2:20)
d)An audible voice (Matthew 3:17)
e) An inner conviction (Isaiah 30:19-21)

  1. Through the Word of God(2 Tim 3:16, Psalm 119:11, 105):This is the most clear and effective way of God’s communication with His people. If you want to know how things work perfectly, you need to read the manual. The Bible is God’s manual for His people. But as in case with other manuals, we often ignore the Bible. How often do we try everything else, but His word? Or we apply our own understanding making the manual of no effect.
  2. Through the inner still, small voice of Holy Spirit (Acts 11:12, Acts 13:2, Acts 16:6-7, 1 Kings 19:12, Isaiah 30:19-21)
  3. Through the advice and counsel of the men and women of God (Prov 12:15)
  4. Through the Audible Voice of God (Acts 9:4-5)
  5. Through Dreams(Matthew 1:20-21) – There are many instances in the Bible, where God clearly communicates through dreams.
  6. Through Visions (Acts 10:9-18)
  7. Through Angels (Luke 1: 26-38)

I have read in the Bible where he used music, donkeys, sounds in nature, the Holy Spirit, thundering's and the one we all want the loud audible indistinguishable loud voice from heaven. Just some thoughts

I hear this occasionally from people and quite honestly it causes me to recoil somewhat. It seems to me that God has told us everything thru His word and thru Christ. Someone saying that they received revelation from Christ has given rise to many cult figures and has caused much damage to Christianity. Am I saying that you cannot receive revelation from God?...no but I think one should be cautious when claiming it. Thoughts?
Here is a verse for you to consider:
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27
So while you believe it is not nescesary for us to hear God speak to us the verse above clearly contradicts your viewpoint. I do hear God speak to me. It is not every day, but on average 3 times a month, maybe more. Sometimes God actually directs me to say things to other people. You may not believe me and that is fine but you do believe in the bible, right?

The bible is full of numerous examples of God speaking to people. Literally from Genesis thru to Revelation God speaks to people. As a matter of fact our entire bible came from people who heard the Holy Spirit. So while you may not of ever heard God speak, that does not mean He does not speak to others.

Please see my above post (#43) and you'll see we do not disagree. However, it is possible for people to abuse the idea of "hearing" from God.

Oh and MANY believe it was God talking to them. No man of God can abuse what God tells them, God does not lie! But hey these self appointed pastors and churchleaders... who told them to be PASTOR? God Himself appoints HIS PASTORS. and they do not GO TO BIBLE SCHOOLS.... God fitly furnish the man of God to DO HIS WILL.... Now that is powerful stuff. NOt a degree celebraton or sertificate ceremony. It is a GODLY appointment with the FULNESS of the Holy Spirit. It is like Jesus at work on earth AGAIN.... It is God HIMSELF that doeth the preaching THROUGH the man of God.

Now if SUCH a man says... "BE HOLY FOR I AM HOLY" ... or the man says... "BE YE FOLLOWERS OF ME" ... FOLLOW THAT MAN!!! Paul said it or was it God that said it THROUGH Paul, anyway, it was GOD'S will that the listeners would FOLLOW the example of Paul.
Phil 3:17... Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

Be blessed with the Truth my family of CC.

The Holy Spirit does talk with us. He has lead me to do wonderful things for others and myself. God reveals himself through the Holy Spirit. What is the purpose of the Holy Spirit if he doesn't give us direction?
We just have to be discerning. Satan's angels like to mess with us. Always talk to God if you have something in question. He will always let you know. Always wait for the answer. Remember it's God's timing not ours. Peace be upon you.

That is true, some do abuse this. A televangelist on TV once pretended to have a conversation with people. Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormons claimed he spoke to God the Father and Jesus. Some people even hear the voice of a demon pretending to be God, which why we are commanded to "test the spirits".

Let us all go through the word of GOD in the Holy Bible to justify one's confession so that such person will learn because this is all without Scriptural quote or wisdom, misunderstanding.

In the Old Testament the called Israelite at Mount Sinai could not bear to hear GOD's voice and they complain this to Moses and GOD confess to Moses they are true.

So GOD spoke through Moses to them and also through Moses, GOD also spoke of a Prophet to come who will speak for HIM and those who do not listen to Him, GOD will make sure HE will require of them.

That Prophet is JESUS of Nazareth. JESUS also said; "My sheep hear my voice and they follow me............................."

JESUS also said HE will send the Helper and; "The Helper does not work on HIS own. HE will only tell you what HE has heard from me."

Please also by the love of the LORD JESUS CHRIST for you today, in HIS encouragement written words of spirit and life and by the Help of the HOLY SPIRIT, be cautious of your and we our 'self'.

As it is also written;

"Even satan disguises himself as an angel of Light and it is not surprising that his servants (even humans) disguises themselves as servants of righteousness."

"Grace has been shown onto you, show Grace onto others."

The Lord has definitely revealed himself to me by his Spirit. The only time he ever spoke to me was at my conversion and it was not an audible voice or I do not believe it was, He spoke in my mind and said: "Do you believe in me?" and I responded and said: "Yes Lord, I believe in you." and at that moment the Holy Spirit entered my soul. I had such a feeling of love and joy that I can not describe it with words.

Since that time I have felt his presence with me on many occasions, and he has revealed his truth to me by visions and dreams, but primarily through his Holy Scripture opening my understanding to comprehend his truth. As The Lord told us "The Spirit of Truth when he comes will lead you into all understanding." Each of us who has received the Holy Spirit have his witness and we receive spiritual revelation, it is my belief that The Lord will not physically appear to us until his second coming.
