I'm waiting to the answer to my question...having fun in the meantime.

''Where in Scripture do we see merited grace?''

Twasn't it Winston Churchill or Oscar Wilde who said, "England and America are two countries separated by a common language?" Note that we are very grateful England gave us the Bible Jesus used, according to some here.

Now that's not Christ-like,
Surely you must see.
May you rot in hell,
To disagree with me!

If you really want to know what grace (charis in NT Greek),
1) Look it up in Greek lexicons,
2) Read all the passages where the word occurs,
3) correlate it with the general related truths.
4) Consider the standard use in theology for unmerited or favor contrary to merit.
See if you can verify the elements:
a) Does God favor men?
b) Do men deserve it?
c) Is that favor contrary to their merit?

I recall a book written some years ago with a title like:
"Grace Is Not a Blue-eyed Blond"

5) Sing it in Praise to the Lord (if you are a believer):

Wonderful grace of Jesus,
Greater than all our sins;
How shall my tongue describe it?
Where shall His praise begin.
Taking away my burden;
Setting my spirit free;
For the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.

Chains have been torn asunder, giving me liberty!

Reaching the most defiled,
By its transforming power,
Making him God's Dear child;
Purchasing peace & pardon;
For all eternity,
For the wonderful Grace of Jesus, reaches me.

This phrase "grace is unmerited favor" is used continuously here in the forums, I've yet to find it in my Bible. What gives? We know many false doctrines have infiltrated the Church, and that, repeat a lie often enough and some folks will start believing it! The adversary is very cunning, we should examine for ourselves if it be true.

First, I'd like to be clear on the meaning of unmerited favor. "God is good to us even when we don't deserve it." Would that be an acceptable definition? While I have to agree He is, would that also define what grace is, unmerited favor? I am not convinced on that viewpoint. Perhaps it may be of interest to some to figure this out, in light of this verse:

Acts 20:32
"So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

Got Grace? You're not built up until you have grace, or have an inheritance, according to Acts 20:32
Rom 3:24 "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:"

Justification is free by God's grace, so it CANNOT be earned. But even though it is free/unearned it does not happen UNCONDITIONALLY.

One must be CONDITIONALLY be "in Christ Jesus" for this free justification and redemption to occur. One must obey the gospel in believing repenting confessing and then being baptized into Christ Gal 3:27. But this obedience cannot earn a free gift that has already been offered but are necessary conditions placed upon the free gift. So God's grace is free and available to all, so why do not all people receive this free gift? Not all will CONDITIONALLY be in Christ.

Reading what you say, why is it always like some corpse walked into the room and is trying to jump on peoples' backs?

Gifts are put in boxes and wrapped. Work must be done to unwrap and unbox the free gifts. So those gifts are earned since work took place?

Not always. Have you ever handed someone a gift unwrapped?
That's a very strained definition of a gift you have.

Boxing and wrapping a gift to give is strained???
I am talking about boxed and wrapped gifts. It takes work to unwrap and unbox......but the gift is still not earned.

You'll have to ask somebody else, as I can't even figure out what Bible you've been reading.
