I still don't see how a piece of jewelry is going to turn a man on. Or braided hair?

But it might have in that culture in those years when women were mostly covered up. Paul wrote that to THAT church for the benefit of what was best for them.

If he was writing to us today, he would tell us to turn off our cell phones and stop texting.
Well... why does a girl wear a diamond in her belly button?

Where do you think she's trying to get a man to look?
Into her eyes?

: )

It WAS a joke.

However, there is also some truth to it.
We should be loving and concerned about carnal women,
but a Christian man DOES have to be VERY cautious.
A woman is always a man's biggest temptation...
and we've already defined this category of women as "carnal".

A word like "lost" or "carnal" over a woman's head is like a big sign
that says, "Christian men, don't burn your fingers on this stove".
You honestly don't want me to reply to some of this......

I think its really about where one puts most of their efforts into their own adornments. Like whether on the outward man (with its costly bling $ ) or the inward man (of which ornamentation) can be of a greater price to God

Heres a few cool comparison between temples (of God) made with hands and of a woman's temple (her body) Less sems like more

Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

1Cr 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth
in you?

I love how you can sorta catch a parallel between the one physical temple

Luke 21:5 And as some spake of the temple,
how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts,

Womens bodys are their temples, speaks of their own adornment

1Peter 1:3 Whose adorning
let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

You can make comparisons
and contrasts

Rev 17:4
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthinessof her fornication:

1Cr 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

1Titus 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array

Seems to be more about letting it be something more then what women tend to make it. Let it be inward (not outward) dont focus so much on the outward

Its okay to have an ornament see?

1 Peter 3:4 But
let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible,
even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit,
which is in the sight of God of great price.

I always thought those were cool

9. In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety; not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment; 10. but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works. 11. Let a woman learn in quietness with all subjection. 12. But I permit not a woman to teach, nor to have dominion over a man, but to be in quietness. 13. For Adam was first formed, then Eve; 14. and Adam was not beguiled, but the woman being beguiled hath fallen into transgression: 15. but she shall be saved through her child-bearing, if they continue in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety. (1 Tim 2:9-15)

Today as we can see that the woman's part have change strongly away from the church of living god, even though the Lord Jesus Christ is the same always.

7. Remember them that had the rule over you, men that spake unto you the word of God; and considering the issue of their life, imitate their faith. 8. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and to-day, yea and for ever. (Heb 13:7-8)
That's another verse I have an issue with. Is it saying that women are stupid? I don't get this. Can someone please explain?

I am just sick and tired of people (both men & women) who propagate dogma that only intensifies the war between men and women. That is a carnal war and Christians should not have any part in that. If you truly believe that God made women as the weaker vessel, then you should also believe that women need men to lift them up above worldly standards. When I see Christian men criticizing women and putting them down into the world, I see only grave error. Rather, uphold God's banner of love over women and speak to them with honor and respect, treating them as sisters and mothers. Even the carnal women of the world deserve such respect because that's how Jesus treated them.

As my husband explains that passage, braid doesnt refer to a simple, plain braid but elaborate hairstyles which were the trend of the day. Women were spending HOURS every day sitting while their hair was being braided and weaved into very complex shapes... So overall, this wasnt much about men, but rather about vain use of the time we have... at least that's my understanding... it would be an equivalent how some women today sit in spa's and hair salons and getting nails done all day long... focusing on appearance too much... this is also not as much about what is done but how it's done aka what's in the heart... many in the first church were poor, they even sold their own possessions... and it wasnt the fact that someone was rich and had a golden chain... but that they would put all kinds of jewelry to "show off" in church how rich they were and how much gold they had, before the poor congregation... it just caused division and all kinds of bad...

...a lesson then not to over dress for church perhaps?

It is interesting that Paul used the term "I" in this passage. This tells me that this is his own personal opinion and may or may not be in alignment with how God thinks. Keep in mind that all things in the bible are truthfully stated but not all things are a statement of truth. Perhaps Paul was a male chauvinist.

That too, yes, I believe. As if God sees us any differently or that we are commended before Him if we "deck" ourselves with whatever jewelry of clothes.

I wore jeans and tees to church my pastor had a problem with that because he felt I was honoring God with my Sunday best (whatever the heck that is) I mean God chose John the baptist to be the forerunner of the Messiah (to be the introducer of him) and God was okay with Johns threads.

Although my pastors watch cost more then my car, but if we were in some serious competition for who wears the least costly array ( if it really mattered) I would win.

Years ago, someone explained to me that Christ is the head of man and man is the head of woman - this was in reference to marriage. This husband and wife team explained how their relationship works and did so with the intention of showcasing how both man and woman have an equal voice. They gave an example that the man is the tank is the woman is the driver inside the tank. The tank cannot move without the driver and the driver cannot drive if the tank malfunctions; they both rely on each other.

I do not know if what I shared has explained this scripture very well, but I felt that what I had on my mind was worth sharing.

My word of advice is that after you read a scripture, especially one that seems to a bit controversial, you should first ask yourself how you can apply it to your life in a manner that uplifts the kingdom of God. Pray to God about it and then wait for an answer. If God does not answer, then wait some more. However, most of the time you will find that God's ways are not like the ways of man and you should expect society to reject the scripture because society is usually not focused on living under the will of God.

Also remember, that when we are young our minds do not comprehend wisdom very well. In our youth, we are full of knowledge and strength so there are many Godly things that we do not understand. However, if we have faith in God, then we will deny our self and obey the holy spirit. Do not be like the biblical scholars in Jesus' time who prepared an answer to defend their way of life and mental cognition no matter which reply Jesus gave. Open your heart and mind to Him so that he can pour in His spirit.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... I'd just LOVE for him to come to our church a time or two. Our asst. pastor usually wears shorts. And I have only been in the building twice in four years when I wasn't wearing jeans.

The verse I highlighted made it sound like women were striaght up stupid though. Like we can't comprehend Gods word without a man explaining it to us.
