From Theopedia. The essential doctrines of Christianity;

• The deity and humanity of Christ
• The doctrine of the Trinity (including the deity of the Holy Spirit)
• Virgin birth of Jesus
• The bodily resurrection of Christ
• Salvation by grace through faith
• The second coming of Christ
• The existence of Heaven and Hell
• the Resurrection of the dead
• Life everlasting
I believe in everything on the list.

People in heresy are cut off from God. Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.

There are so many different denominations and different bible translations that the word heresy is pretty much meaningless. Who gets to define it? The RCC? The SDA? The ECLA?

Each one would define heresy differently. So which one do you go with?

I suppose probably your favorite.

You left out PTA, not to be confused with PETA.

I was thinking the doctrine of the trinity deals only with
the nature of one God existing in three eternal persons...

The following is to the board at large :)

How Does the Bible Teach the Doctrine of the Trinity?

The following chart shows some of the many passages in the Bible
from which the doctrine of the Trinity is derived. Note that God the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all called God and all have the
same attributes, which are attributes that only God has.

Does not the doctrine clearly state that God is One??

I believe that a heretic is someone who holds a contrary opinion to a particular belief or doctrine. It may need neither be a good or a bad thing.
There is nothing good about being a heretic.

heresy in the Bible from dictionary.com

from a Greek word signifying (1) a choice, (2) the opinion chosen, and (3)the sect holding the opinion. In the Acts of the Apostles (5:17; 15:5; 24:5,14; 26:5) it denotes a sect, without reference to its character. Elsewhere, however, in the New Testament it has a different meaning attached to it.Paul ranks "heresies" with crimes and seditions (Gal. 5:20). This word also denotes divisions or schisms in the church (1 Cor. 11:19). In Titus 3:10 a"heretical person" is one who follows his own self-willed "questions," and who is to be avoided. Heresies thus came to signify self-chosen doctrines not emanating from God (2 Pet. 2:1).

1.opinion or doctrine at variance with the orthodox or accepted doctrine, especially of a church or religious system.

2.the maintaining of such an opinion or doctrine.

3.Roman Catholic Church. the willful and persistent rejection of any article of faith by a baptized member of the church.

No.2 happens quite often, then when someone else calls them out on it, it's made the caller's fault instead. Heretical deflection perhaps is a good name for it.

I call it exegesis when I'm wrong, and heresy when other people are wrong.

Yes, but not that there is only one God. Unless I am mistaken, monotheism is different than the doctrine of the triune nature of God.

Any understanding of the doctrine of the Trinity must begin with the truth that God is One. Which is what the doctrine asserts.

I do believe one of will be heritic because at the end of the day we have one father...Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; so i do believe all our fundamental beliefs should base on the bible alone because that is acceptable measure

Gal, I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head! LOL
No , she didnt. That's the problem. People love to throw the heretic label at anyone they simply disagree with. All the while genuine heresy goes on unabated and folks couldn't care less. Even encouraging them in their heresy.

Martin Luther was a "heretic" in the eyes of the church in his time because he said "The just shall live by faith." The established church of his day called him a heretic because he deviated from their belief which they had for around 1,300 years.

A heretic could be anyone who doesn't agree with someone else on a subject. Go against an established church tradition and you will have a heretic in the making - just like Luther was deemed to be.

Touch a religious "sacred cow" and you'll see the malice, slander and hatred erupt from the works of the flesh. They think they are "defending the faith" but in reality they are "defending their church teachings and traditional beliefs".
Let me get this right..... I could say anything I want, & whoever disagrees with me is a heretic?

Is that in a nutshell saying "we ought to all be quiet" & let them keep spreading falsehood?

While it was said one way, it could have actually been meant to be another.

Maybe If I said the blue part, it would have deflected the issue from me.

I can talk about me like that, can't I?

Agreed. A heretic, in todays world , is anybody that doesn't agree with me.

I mean, we are told not to eat the fruit(apple;)) of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And people STILL eat apples. Heretics!
