How can Satan be bound for a thousand yrs.?
back to the question...
I believe that Satan was bound for a 1000 years, when the church stood firm and united against all heresy and he is now loose and deceiving the nations.
what marks the release of Satan? does anyone know?
2 Thessalonians 2:6-8
New King James Version (NKJV)
6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He[a] who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
Revelations 20
7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
why do people think 2 thessalonians talk about the false prophet or the beast and not Satan himself?

When did the church ever stand "firm and united against all heresy" for 1000 years?
The thousand years in Rev 20 has not started yet. Nothing in Revelation has started yet, it is all still future. Satan is loose now, look at the state of the world. He will be bound at the start of the future 1000 year kingdom and released towards the end of it.
Satan's release at the end of the thousand years will be marked by his putting together a vast army for one last attack on Christ. Resurrected believers (Christian and OT) will not be deceived by him.
