People get eternal life basically the same way they get an iPhone 6-- they
contact a distributor of the product they want. In this case, there is but one
authorized distributor: God's son.

†. John 17:2 . .You have given him authority over all flesh, that he should
give eternal life to as many as You have given him.

This is actually a lot easier than most folks realize. Take for example the
experience of the five-times married woman shacking up with a man in
Samaria that Jesus once encountered on his travels. In metaphoric
language, he informed her that she could have eternal life just by asking him
for it.

†. John 4:10-15 . . Jesus said to her: If you knew the gift of God, and who it
is who says to you "Give me a drink" you would have asked him, and he
would have given you living water.

. . . She said to him: Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is
deep; where then do you get that living water? You are not greater than our
father Jacob, are you, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his
sons, and his cattle?

. . . Jesus answered and said to her: Everyone who drinks of this water shall
thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of
water springing up to eternal life.

So, in order to get the ball rolling: one must first have some understanding
of the "gift of God".

†. John 3:14-17 . . As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so
must the Son of Man be lifted up; that whoever believes may in him have
eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

The incident to which Christ referred is located at Num 21:5-9. Long story
short: Yhvh's people became weary of eating manna all the time at every
meal. But instead of courteously, and diplomatically, petitioning their divine
benefactor for a different diet, they became hostile and confrontational;
angrily demanding tastier food.

In response to their insolence, and their ingratitude for His providence; Yhvh
sent a swarm of deadly poisonous vipers among them; which began striking
people; and every strike was 100% fatal, no exceptions. Then the people
came to their senses and asked Moses to intercede. In reply; The Lord
instructed Moses to fashion an image of the vipers and hoist it up on a pole
in plain view so that everyone dying from venom could look to the image for
relief.

The key issue here is that the image was the only God-given remedy for the
people's bites-- not sacrifices and offerings, not tithing, not church
attendance, not scapulars, not confession, not holy days of obligation, not
the Sabbath, not love of one's neighbor, not charity, not Bible study and
Sunday school, not self denial, not vows of poverty, not the Ten
Commandments, no; not even prayers. The image was it. In other words
then: Christ's crucifixion is the only God-given escape from the wrath of
God; and when people accept it, then according to John 3:14-17 and John
4:10-15, they qualify for eternal life.

†. Rev 22:17 . .The Spirit and the bride say: Come. Let each one who hears
them say: Come. Let the thirsty ones come-- anyone who wants to. Let
them come and drink the water of life without charge.

Amen to your post......Be not removed from the simplicity that is found in Christ......I will trust into the PERFECT FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST for my forgiveness, salvation and justification before the Heavenly Father...Galatians 2:16-21

The bible clearly teaches a few things about the Life that God gives unto the genuine believer....

1. It is eternal, everlasting which means exactly that...ETERNAL is ETERNAL.....salvation that can be lost is not eternal, but TEMPORARY
2. It is freely given as a GIFT......IT IS the GIFT of God not of WORKS lest any man should boast
3. It is based upon the simple act of faith....If you believe that God has raised him from the dead and confess this=Salvation
4. It is eternal---whatsoever God does it is ETERNAL...nothing ADDED nothing and nothing taken away Ecclesiastes 3
5. It is based upon the work that Christ has done on our behalf....HE BECAME SIN for US......
6. He saves to the UTTERMOST those who believe in him
7. He finishes what he started with us and will COMPLETE IT
8 Salvation is a completed act with present continuing results...AORIST TENSE VERB as applied to John 3:16 IS HAVING EVERLASTING LIFE.

And on and on and on!

(John 3:35,36)
35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. 36 The one who exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life; the one who disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

people do not attain eternal life in a sense.

God gives it to people. though his sons death.

it is a gift, not anything that can be earned.

Those bitten had to come to the serpent and look upon it, Num 21:8, or die. For one to be saved he must come to Christ, Mat 11:28, and do what Christ has said, Lk 6:46; Heb 5:9 or die spiritually.
As you point out yourself in Rev 22:17 "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."

The language and grammar of John 3:14-17 specifically relates Moses'
image of the vipers to Christ's crucifixion.

Yes, but one must have gone to look upon the serpent to be healed as one must come to Christ to be healed. Just sitting and doing nothing did not, does not get one healed.

There is nothing in the language and grammar of Num 21:5-9 indicating
that people had to "come" to the image that Moses' constructed. All they had
to do was look upon it. Moses hoisted it up on a pole. In that location, the
image could be seen afar off.

How high was the pole? There may have been many Israelites spread out over a very large area.
In any case, one must still have looked for doing nothing would not heal them.

NT context shows one must come to Christ.

The pole was as high as a Roman cross set upon a hill. The brass serpent was visible from every tent in the camp. All one needed to do was heed the command of God to look upon it. Believe that when you look you shall live. No work just grace.

How many Israelites came up out of Egypt to go to Canaan? Millions? How big of an area would millions of people cover and how high a pole and big a serpent for all to see from where they sit/stand?

In any case, they had to OBEY by looking as one must come to Christ in obedience to Him.

How could doing nothing heal one of a snake bite?

obedience is not salvation...Confession with your mouth and belief in your heart is.

You miss the point they had to believe before they were willing to look. Faith was required before grace was received. They acted in their heart before they acted with their eyes.

they had faith first. they were saved before they even looked. because their faith has made them free. Those who had faith in self tried to save themselves. that is why they did not look up. They had no faith, it was dead.

I know you so want all your good deeds to save you, But they will not. when are you going to give it all to Christ, and let him save you?

actually, the NT shows Christ comes to us, not us to him.

The point is they had to OBEY to be healed as one must obey Christ to be saved, Heb 5:9.
