How does one know whether a prophet or prophecy is of and/or from God?

When I look at prophets in the OT, I see firstly that few of the people they ministered to even accepted them as God's servant.
True prophets were ridiculed, mocked, & disrespected. Jeremiah was disowned by his own family & publically ridiculed by the false prophets of his day. Elisha was mocked by the youth in his area, before they were killed by a female bear. Where do you think those kids learned to do that? Elijah was hated by the political elite of his time. If anyone listened to them, it was out of fear of their reputation of accuracy.
There's nothing new under the sun. Anyone today that performs the ministry of a true prophet will receive bad treatment. Several religious people on CC has already proven that.
