Of course,we receive Holy Spirit by the hearing of faith. Just take a look on the next verses, KJV. Galatians3;5, He therefore that ministereth to you in the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, does he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? KJV.Acts10;44,While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the Word.

Galatians 3:1-2 KJVS
[1] O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? [2] This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Paul ties in receiving the Holy Spirit (vs.2) with believing the Gospel (vs. 1).

Yes, and I've heard many people state that you must get rid of your sins first. Fact is, I could not do so until I had the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. He gave me the power to recognize how I was grieving the Lord, and then gave the power to turn from what I was doing. He was my helper as I repented and turned my life around.

Jason,

There is a distinction, the Godhead is revealed as the Spirit. The Father is also referred to as God. Jesus, Christ, Son. The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. What we receive is a seal, a portion, the holy Spirit of promise, the spirit that is of God, spirit of holiness, holy Spirit... capitalization is important to distinction and doctrine. In scripture, the Godhead is shown to teach us, in the inner man, our holy Spirit.

[SUP]13 [/SUP]In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise

[SUP]30 [/SUP]And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

[SUP]12 [/SUP]Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Yes, it all comes from Him, and to Him we look to.

I received the Holy Spirit twice in my life.
God took him away the first time as a act of mercy.
The second time I received the Holy Spirit seven days before that God had taken away all my bad habits and I had this strong urge to read my Bible, something I'd rarely do.
After seven days of reading the Bible God tested me for my faith on September 11th,a woman came up to me and said I passed after being tested.
I prayed for forgiveness of my sins and the Holy Spirit afew days after when I got home before bed, and I felt the Holy Spirit giving me a new heart.
It felt like my heart got pushed in a little and my heart beat got lighter.

You get born from the Spirit and receive the Spirit when you get saved. Baptism in the Spirit you get when someone else who's baptized in the Spirit prays for you and lays his hands on you, well that's how I received it and others I know.

The holy spirit is given to all to truly to come to Christ, when I was saved he was the first one I encountered I was as you could say baptized by fire, Believe me his power his fire the life that is so abundant in him was like nothing I ever imagined I felt him burning inside me and all around me.

How one receives the holy spirit is indeed a good question but one that I am more curious about is who is the holy spirit? in my time of of faith I have noticed that God the father and Jesus while being one in the same have different qualities different aspects in their nature and I am curious of my friend the holy spirit. I was talking to him once him the holy spirit and I kept feeling that he has another name one that is more personal one that has a deeper meaning and I could have sworn I heard someone say my name is in the wind, I have no idea what that means if it was him but I know God the father quite well and I know Jesus quite well but I don't know the holy spirit that well.

Is the Holy Spirit the God within us? The voice within? The one who guides us when we make a choice? Yes we can easily picture God the father and Jesus but the Holy Ghost is a mystery. The God the father sitting on the throne up stairs and Jesus in His right hand. The Holy Spirit is the busy buddy doing all the dirty job putting up with mankind here on earth after Jesus' job was finished.

to dig a little into your answer, you are saying we need to believe that the holy spirit is with us, in order to receive it ? is that somewhat correct? is that the faith you are speaking of here
