Its interesting that you say Darwin had no evidence of evolution taking place. I was homeschooled so I learned biology from a christian perspective. The book talked about Darwin and the discoveries he found. He was on an island of some sort I believe, and while there he recorded finches and how some had different beaks and such. Ironic thing is he had gone to seminary and was taking a break to record nature while on a certain ship. So he did discover that birds evolve within their kind. He then took that truth and stretched it saying that animals evolved from one kind to another which there is simply no evidence of that.

And if one wants "proof" of where I got that from I got it from apologia biology.
That in itself was extinction and not evolution. He found birds with beaks that couldn't eat certain foods would die when only that food was available.
If you breed puffins. On no account will one puffin change into a different bird. If it were possible one could interbreed two species but this in itself is interbreeding and not evolution. Evolution is one breed by itself changing to adapt to its surroundings by changing its form and becoming an entire new species. Interbreeding is different. It is like taking a horse and a donkey and getting a mule. We all know what happens when we further breed from the results of interbreeding. They die out quickly.
A funny one I heard somebody say is when about 20 years ago whales were beaching on shores in Scotland. Conservationists came out in force to try to push the poor things back into the sea. Someone said "What are they doing? They are trying to become human!"
Evolution to work as a theory needs a very large time zone to work. Hence why millions rather then thousands of years are mentioned.

At least 6000 years old. The actual age depends on how long Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden. Your guess about that period is as good as mine.
If Adam was me, probably not that long! :D Temptation can be so difficult to resist at times!

In the beginning God created hydrogen and helium with a pinch of lithium and beryllium what bang that set off.
It was more amazing then that. God spoke and it happened!

adaptation is probably a better word for evolution, then again the human egg soupwater evolves into a physical person, though what doesn't come from a sack of water?,
I think there is a bit more to it then that. :D

If my faith in Jesus rests on how old the earth is...i believe
I'm going in the wrong direction...love the Lord your God
with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself...in this
the entire law is fulfilled...after the washing of the feet,
Jesus said "I have given you example that so you also should
do. I think it's a good idea to try that.
I agree your faith in Jesus doesn't rest on how old the earth is, the basic example in Genesis is enough, surely leaping beyond that isn't a requirement but of a seek and you shall find.

Indeed imagine designing creating things from just a breath, could be similar to blowing up a balloon the balloon is flat and formless, yet breath into it and it becomes a round ball.

I know good and well that God made the earh, but there are some contradictions here now in my life. My mom says the earth is around 2000-3000 years old, but my science teacher, Professor Hemsworth, says that it is in fact around 5 billion years old. I have read the bible many times but I just need a straight answer! ;)
God does not measure time
by how many orbits the earth makes around the sun.

God formed man from the dust of the ground..

Now look at what we know of man today, from the cellular level. And imagine what that looked like.. Then imagine, Adam was the most perfect man every created, then Eve..

And God spoke, and he became man.

That's a good observation, did you know that on Venus one day is equal to 243 earth days, the universe time bubbles are vast and wide.

Indeed bro, looking at the cellular level imagine Adam being created from the DNA of dirt, then Eve from the DNA of human bone, sounds almost like a process.

Indeed, yet he spoke and it happened.

it did not take 20 years. or even billions of years..

I believe it went this way with all of his creation, He spoke, and it happened. Although the heavens and earth took a few days..lol

Amen, And t God 1000 years is but a blink of an eye, which would be what percent of a 24 hour day?

Mindboggling.

but of coarse all in a days work... lol, who am I to say your day isn't 24 hours long on earth rightly so it is.

If you overdo it when blowing... Bang! Oh dear! I didn't mention bang did I?
On a more practical note to the original poster, the best I can come up with is that the Bible indicates a relatively young earth and evolution states a very old earth. I guess one day we will all know when we can ask Jesus ourselves in Heaven or when the rapture takes place, and by that time it won't really matter anyway!
You have probably now heard most of the ideas to the age of the earth from 2000, to many millions of years... I go for a young earth from what I can fathom of what the Bible says when I once tried to work things out... I think I got so far and then estimated it! It is definitely more then 2000 years...
One day we will know for sure!
I hope God leads you in the answer. May God bless you in the quest! :)

all we know is we had an evening and a morning wer the first day, so on and so forth.

how long were those days? how slow did the earth rotate? and scientifically what would that mean if the earth slowed down or sped up?

If a person could watch a single day on the galactic level, that single day would be 240 millions years long.

imagne when we are in heaven for that long, will we even remember the events which happened today?

I've had another thought... As God lives outside of time, it only bears considering from our perspective! In other words, when we die or get raptured, it is not a concern.
