Why would any christian want to drink beer to calm their nerves instead of receiving their calmness from the Prince of Peace?!?
Maybe you could think about the question you have asked and answer it yourself as to why you think why.

You may be able to bring some insight.

I think you statement is distasteful to say the least & grossly offensive to say the most!

IMO, There's folks in this forum you owe an apology to.
Our church uses grape juice and to be honest I think that's correct.
Just even the smell of alcohol for a alcoholic can cause a relapse.

Also in our church we have gluten free bread because some can't eat normal bread.

To me communion is very precious. Not to be taken lightly.
Its remembering what Jesus has done for us, a time of reflection.
At times I have been reluctant to take communion because I have not been in the right place and feel unworthy.

Yet in those times I find myself on my knees saying "Oh my God I need help"

I personally feel that whether it be wine or grape juice or normal bread or gluten free bread is not the issue or the purpose.

Its remberance of what Jesus has done.

I have been very stressed lately and broke down and bought a couple (2) 500ml cans of beer. After drinking I felt a lot better. It was sort of medicinal for me. I don't have the desire to drink more than that which equaled out to just under 3 beers.

Now I have 2 questions:

1: Is it ok for me, being a Christian, to have a drink to wind down, reduce stress and ease nerves?

2: is feeling the effects ok? nobody can say they don't feel the effects of drinking beer, even if it is just a slight buzz.

As the Bible says, it does gladden the heart and made me feel, I don't know, happier.

I am living in a different country now, have a high stress job, and it wouldn't be an every day thing. Just wondering your take on this.

Thanks!
Radius, bible is not prohibiting to drink alcohol, solong you will not misuse it and drink to much! But a big but! In your case it seems to be like "medicine" and you felt good. If it is for only view times thats may be ok. But if it becomes behaviour it will makes you addictet. So better is saying no! There must be better ways to relax from stress! I deceided not to drink because of the much who drinks and becomes addictet. So honestly I drink once ore twice a year some wine with my wife. I pray you will find some alternative!

I guess what i am trying to say is if the Bible does not condemn moderate use of alcohol, why is it considered wrong? drinking 2-3 beers (at most) would be moderate. If people don't drink it as a way to unwind, why do they drink it? My intentions are not to abuse it or get drunk.
Its called law, people make up rules and expect others to follow them, it makes them feel better.

I may be wrong but I believe the Sally Ann was the first,or one of,to not use alcohol during communion because they worked so much with street people. They did not want to cause them to fall.

Is it wrong to drink alcohol in moderation? NO its not..
Why do they preach against it? The legalistic pharisees of Christianity preach that it is sin. The Word does not. Jesus said "What makes a person unclean is not what goes into his mouth; rather, what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean!”

If you drink Keep it in moderation. Drinking to excess can lead you into sin.

The fact that you are questioning whether to take a drink or not, should raise a flag. I assure you that alcohol is not the answer. I believe that you already know that.

Please take the time to read what Magenta has posted. She has posted some great advice.

Manage your stress continuously. Don't let it build to critical. It actually affects your physical health. I live a high stress lifestyle. When I feel the stress building, I take a short break. I find a scripture. I read it. then I sit back in my chair, close my eyes and meditate on that scripture.

Hmmm I think he said it was a pot calling the kettle....? This remark was not necessary. All you did was to jab a brother for your own pleasure.

A brother? no, no brother of mine would act like a hypocrite and demand people do things he refused to do himself,

As I said, he has been doing hat since I first met him.

Buzzed isn't moderation.
Now I am wondering if buzzed is the exatct same thing as "brisen" or not :p
If I have one beer my skin tingles and I feel more social. I still walk straight, talk straight and think ... well, the same way I normally do :p is that being buzzed or does it imply more than that?

Think that's called a 'slight buzz'.

Because there will always be a lot of sick, pitiful people trying to say they are better than you. And this is an easy way for them to do that. They are diseased. Try to forgive them.

I dont believe Jesus would have been drunk. Some people try and defend that but I totally disagree that Jesus would have been drunk and not able to know what He was saying and doing. And the Bible warns against being drunk. And Im sorry but I take offense to the phrase "a few recovering alcoholics". My uncle was a lifelong alcoholic and also a very close Christian friend of mine struggled with the same issue. As Christians we need to be careful we are not a stumbling block to others.
Jesus didnt do it or anywhere in acts (replace wine).......... not corinthians either so are we pastorally more careful and better than Jesus and the disciples themselves????????? this is not booze this is communion wine blessed........... but i know how protestants roll on this already.......... i dont care if its wine or grape juice just sayin no reason 2 change it, if some1 is truly in the faith will they really relapse from COMMUNION wine??????????? i hoppe not........ but anyway both are fine with me may the Most High bless all

If it is so wrong to drink wine or beer (in moderation) why did Jesus drink it is all I'm trying to understand? I think there is a freedom in Christianity, and I bet Jesus was WAY more down to earth than people think He was. He was labeled a "winebibber". You don't get that label for drinking juice. Did He get drunk, no. But he had a little. Why would the Bible make so many reference to enjoying wine if it was so bad? I think it all comes down to your individual conscience.

I was reluctant at first because I did have a problem with it as I already admitted. But for those that don't know me, don't know how stubborn I can be! I quit cold turkey the first time around, and I have strong will power when I want to. If I tell myself no more than 2-3, believe me I will keep it to 2-3. Yet no one here gives me the benefit of the doubt, and I'm already being called a weak-willed drunk with no chance.

1. Drinking is not prohibited, drunkenness is.

2. I always think back to the wedding where Jesus thought 'now that everyone's buzzed, let's bring out the good stuff'

;)
