Paul did not want the women to teach, because they would be hurt if caught doing so by the same people that crucified Christ. It was a teaching more for their protection at that time.

Remember what Paul did before his conversion. He would know well the consequences for a Christian women caught teaching Christ, again, but the same that crucified Christ.

Not a bad insight actually.

Seems like wishful thinking that Paul would have prohibited women from office just to protect them from the Sanhedrin.

Paul's teaching on this wasn't just for that time and culture and it wasn't limited just to the corinthian church. It was a general rule upheld by "all churches" (1Cor.14:33). The historical records for the exclusion of females in holding offices are abundant.

Except for the fact that it isn't much of one anyway.
Well, the sanhedrin WOULD have punished women for teaching. So it could be part of the reason Paul didn't want women to teach in church. It's insightful speculation.

I never said it was the real reason.

Again, I have my views (on previous page), you've got yours. We're here to share those. You don't have to believe what I do, nor I you. But if anything said leads to understanding then take from it what you will and decide for yourself.

I also believe this is why women have a hard time sometimes in marriage.

We see divorce and the children are well looked after by the wife, but the husband tends to put his wife in a higher position than his kids, if that makes sense?

Women have an easier time of loving children in the role of 'creator', than loving their husbands in the role of 'wife'.

That is a generalization, and of course there are relationships where wives forsake kids for the sake of their husband, but each is equally detrimental.

The same way, man can forsake his wife for another woman, something God doesn't do. So we (men) need learn the role of 'good husband', and wives the role of 'good wife'.

And God directs both.
Sorry But that is a very POOR analysis...
THE order of authority IS
GOD
HUSBAND-> WIFE
CHILDREN

NEVER EVER are the children to be abovethe wife in priority... and this is RATHER A PROBLEM in america whaere people turn their kids into the authority/prioiry of the home... the whole home revolves around the Children... THAT IS ENTIRELY out of Gods Order.

I do not suffer a woman to teach OVER A MAN.

This is the truth of the verse, it is not a blanket statement by Paul saying, 'Woman should NEVER teach.' No!

That said, so, what about the word 'over,' for in it's real understanding lies the truth of Paul's opinion (which is God's opinion, too, right ;) ) in 1 Tim. 2:12 :)

That's what i just said .....

'BUT EACH IS EQUALLY DETRIMENTAL'

We (men) need to learn the role of husband. And wives the role of wife.

Ok... admittedly my posts are not perfectly formulated or punctuated... you might have MEANT what I said... but that is NOT what you wrote according to the structure and punctuation... I give you a GIMME :)

Here's a little tip... order and authority structure FALLS INTO PLACE from a TOP DOWN priority... get it?? hint hint.

You know, I think the word 'over' is just not getting anything said about it, so what about the words of the whole verse, maybe, this will just wrap up the thread. Whatever, works for me, I guess :(

The Lord leads :)

But, maybe , I, yes, I, green, have the context wrong. You know why?

The stickLER-er-er--er words at the end of the verse, my Christ peeps. 'but to be silent.'

Now, if the verse reads with this definnition it really does not Fit in with 'but to be silent,' it's taking things out of context, or, hmm, no, I guess that is not what I mean to say, I guess what I'm saying is I'm just not reading the verse truthfully.

Sigh ..... A moment for pause :( Green hates it when he has to be humble :( Still pausing :( But, OK, done, :D And, yes, that was serious humility there for you all. :)

The verse reads much better when:

'over a man'=controlling authority over a man. Because why, green? Because of 'but to be silent.' With it being:

I suffer not a woman to teach or have authority over a man but to be silent, <-- this makes MUCH more sense when it's controllign authority.
The 'but to be silent' FITS :)

I suffer not a woman to speak INSTEAD OF A MAN or have authority INSTEAD OF a man, but to be silent. There is an incongruency of thought. Now, that said, ORDER is still spoken of in the very next verse.

but, yeah, having second thoughts, that's all, maybe I will change them again, tomorrow. I pray for His wisdom to me, always :)

I suffer not a woman to speak dominatingly over a man or have authority dominatingly of a man but tto be silent.

Well, hmm, maybe, it's just too late, my green brains are mush, long day.

I do pray though that the person that next changes that $1,3something donation # higher to private message me :) The Lord leaads :)

As a woman and a child of God, I guess, I do not know how to verbalize or understand this subject clearly. I was raised to be demure, silent and respectful. I was subservient and respectful to my husband. He was the head of our home. Unfortunately, I did not marry a kind man.

I guess my point is that many people use these verses in a vacuum. Yes God created perfect order, but God also knows our nature. So if you put a caveat that a man of God should not suffer a woman to teach, then yes that makes sense. But if you have a woman of God and man of no faith, or a woman of God willing to do God's errands and a man of God who is not willing, then I think that changes this.

God's words are strong and true, but they are used in many different ways depending on the circumstances. Many times the Lord has encouraged me to "be strong and courageous". Many times He has encouraged me to be bold in my faith.

Romans 10:14-15

New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]14 [/SUP]How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? [SUP]15 [/SUP]And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Women with Holy Spirit can be on fire for the Lord. If He truly did not expect us to speak, He would not have given us His spirit to bubble out of us. Perhaps these verses are more about appropriate times and places for women to speak. The Holy Spirit gives you the ability to preach. With so many lost souls in the world, why would you want to cut off half of your fighting force? Authority is never in question due to order. But how can you question a woman's ability to preach the gospel with passion and love? Isn't the goal the same?

Besides, we have much prettier feet;)
