Or you know, these Christian artists/bands could be doing what Jesus did and be shining Christ's light in the darkness. For example: P.O.D have played at Ozfest a couple of times and they haven't compromised their faith in Christ to do so.

Any "Christian" band that goes on stage to perform with secular, hellish bands are not Christian at all. I don't care if it's rock, country, R&B, or metal, to go on their stage you have to play by their rules. The reason they play on their stage is quite simple...... they want to be like them. They dress like them, they act like them, they perform like them, and they play alongside of them. Don't talk to me about their "witness" on stage. When you play on their stage, you play by the rules in their contract. I know personally that their contracts don't have any place for Jesus. So who then are they really playing for?
There are definitely metal bands/artists that are bad news but to paint all metal with this brush, is silly. Flyleaf, Living Sacrifice, P.O.D (the latter isn't metal) - these bands and many others have helped the lost hear about Christ and his work in their lives through their music and verbal testimonies.

I don't believe there is anything wrong with Christian metal. I believe people come from all walks of life and different types of music will minister to different people in different ways. ex. Fred Hammond's music brought me closer to Christ but everyone may not know him. where as I don't know the Christian artests who live in Africa playing African music. As long as the lyrics are glorifying Jesus thats all that matters

I'm in a Christian hard rock band called "Spiritual Plague".

We are performing at a huge rock festival with some of the biggest names in hard rock/metal:
Rock USA Oshkosh (click the link to check it out). Last year's attendance was 120,000.

Everything belongs to God, and so do the stages we play on no matter who else is playing on it. You're all invited to come out and be a witness for Christ at the event too. :)

Wow interesting post. I see some things have not changed since the time of Christ. Christ was found in places that many accused him not being who he his becasue of who he associated with.

Personally I dont like metal rock. All the scriptures about music say make a joyful sound. Metal to me is not joyful. It is a sound mostly noise to me.

Where the music is played isnt so much the matter. Do we need to conform to the world to draw people in? Do we need to style our music to get people so called saved? What does the scriptures say about these issues?

IMHO, we should not conform to the world but be apart, music should be Joyful and must glorify God if it is to be consider praise. Otherwise it is just entertainment and their is no difference between chrsitian metal and metal. It's like saying if I watch the christian football league (if one existed) I am glorfing God. It is nice to have some metal music that is to say clean lyrics but in reality that is what most christian metal is, just clean lyric entertainment.

Nope...... God won't be contained inside a box of our reformed thinking . His place is "much taller" than us .

and who says you and zone determine what glorifies God?

i guess to you two, God can't use a rock to bring Him glory...

Colossians 3:23-24
23 Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men,
24 knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord—you serve the Lord Christ

i have heard many amazing things come from Christian metal... Yahweh even used Christian metal to minister to me in my life when i was not saved; i have friends who have gone to Christian metal concerts, and have witnessed first hand people coming to know Yahweh for the first time through the music...
God is not so utterly powerless that he cannot use a music genre to bring sinners to know Him.

take God out of your box
For the other lady and for Zone, I believe they do not understand the metal scene..or those involved in it,or that there are actual christian metal communities and ministries. I have listened to youtube videos from one famous metal minister, and what came from his lips were nuggets of true gold! I was in tears when he said the awesome thing about God is that he gives us a 'do over'. I needed to hear that, and it spoke to me,as I used to be one of those long haired scene kids. :)

OP: There is no such thing as "Christian" heavy metal. Heavy Metal, by definition is anything BUT edifying, glorifying, exhorting, encouraging, or praise of or worship of the Lord. It is, like it or not, agree or not, evil music that evokes the demonic and it is subtly masked with 'Christian' lyrics.
When mature Christians state these facts, younger, less knowledgeable ones, get their feathers ruffled and often claim, 'Don't judge!!!' or a variety of other rebuttals. But facts are facts and the Word of God calls us to hold every thought captive TO the Word of God. "Music" that is harsh in sound, extremely loud, that razes the vocal chords, and SOUNDS JUST LIKE the heavy metal of the World, does not, in any way, please the Lord.

You can google the effects of heavy metal music on the brain and nervous system. You won't like what it says though.

I am 21, yes. I didn't grow up with metal mostly, I was always around pop, rap, country, hymns here and there, but later in life when I was about 11 or 12, I began to turn on the radio, and as I checked out the stations I heard a rock station. Now, back then I didn't listen to lyrics much or care what they mean usually unless they were love songs of romance, I normally just loved the sounds. So, when I heard rock, the guitars just got to me like whoa! Then overtime, I heard metal and when I heard them scream it caught my attention as it was like music I never heard before. Then the next part is a long sad story, if you want to know the story send me a message and I'll tell you, but basically i was very emotional and had feelings like being sad, angry, and such. And as I did start paying attention to lyrics, that became the kind of songs I only listened to- ones that have great sounds but always must relate to my feelings and passionate desires. So, metal became my favorite genre from the screaming feelings i had inside and the beat helped me calm down and sounded cool. The lyrics helped as they matched my feelings. Well, over years, long story, i was saved being 18. Then I began to dislike and feel uncomfortable with many things like songs with cursing and sexual stuff, so i began to dislike most of them for their lyrics yet i still love the sound. But then i heard there was Christian metal and such, so i checked it out and found some. Yet, as i did, my family, brother and such said it was not of God. Many people had their opinions and beliefs of music genre, but over the years i noticed, not all Christian music of any genre is always Christ-like. So, now that i have a Christlike heart with him living in me, the Holy Spirit tends to tell me what to listen to and not what to, yet sometimes my ears/flesh still wants to hear the sound. Here is my opinion on it basically; If the Lord doesn't like what it sings about or despises of it, then don't listen to it because he only wouldn't do which is sinful, so we shouldn't either. Even if metal or any other music, christian or not isn't sinful- if it is making you further from being Christ-like and good, or making you upset then don't listen to those. Now, lets say your children or others around you dont like it or disagree, then just dont play it around them. I always had to wear headphones all the time, i never ever use a speaker because people would think devils are flying out of them as the vocalist screams. Some say metal has screaming like someone evil, i said to them singing "Jesus loves me, this i know." or even sang their favorite song from hymns in a screaming or deep voice, i asked them "does that make it evil while i still sing the same songs you sing?" heh. they try to disagree, but it seems senseless just because of the tone of voice or how they sound. So for now, i wouldnt say its all wrong, surely all of it isnt good, but just listen to what brings you closer to being Christlike and not further away from being like the Lord. Thats what is a question we can ask ourselves about anything.

"Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"

I've seen many lyrics as questionable or more so in mainstream Christian music, especially CCM. At the same time, I've seen more powerful godly lyrics in some of the hardest Christian music out there that isn't very popular. CCM has got to the point where much of it fails to mention the gospel message and it does praise something, but it's never made clear what in some cases. Many of the lyrics are very vague and open for interpretation and cause a "feel good" emotional response much like mainstream secular music that promotes things such as humanism, hope, joy, working together, etc. Which of the two are conforming the most to please the world and be politically correct?

Also, the majority of the world listens to CCM type of music (they share the same sound) and less of the harder music which remains out of the mainstream in a lot of cases. Which one would be more worldly in that case? Popular CCM that seems to mimic Pop-music or the less desired metal, rock, industrial, etc? I can tell ya that Pop music isn't copying CCM, rather it's the other way around. CCM artists are copying the worldly sound.

Actually, some satanic metal bands i used to listen to always made me go back to God. Because their lyrics and thoughts of them made me want and hunger for Christ more. I always remember, it wasn't the good blessings and just how lovely God's love is that made me want to get saved, it was me noticing my wicked sin and seeing my life is nothing, that seeing sin made me see Christ is completely different and made my heart want to have his love and be saved from the sin I was living in. So people always telling me; God loves you, didnt make me want to get saved, but actually music singing about sinful things and living a sinful life made me want to get saved. Does anyone feel odd about that? Was anyone else here like that? -Simply I'm saying, righteous or sinful, darkness or light, God uses both to help save others. He even uses Satan a lot to make us come to the Lord to be saved!

He even uses Satan a lot to make us come to the Lord to be saved! Also, i notice many people think christian metal is wrong for it's lyrics since they dont always say the Lord's name in it, or that they arent full of joy with happy words. Well, most Christian metal i hear, if you listen closely or even study the lyrics, many times they are focusing on troubles and sins, and how God helps us through it, and how the evil ones should stop what they do, or even how we need to change. It sounds negative, but like in the Bible, we have to know these kinds of things before we can be saved to admit and confess our sins and start to hate sin. And realize who we've been, who we are and who we need to be, and many times christian metal has helped me with that. If you dont see that, then perhaps it's just not for you.

Its just like Christian rap...the style of the music originally came from drug doing fornicating worldly people. So if u try to take something from the world and put God in it. It is wrong. God calls his people to be set apart from the world, sanctified, different. not conform to it. When you rap or whatever...it came from the world...sinners. to be specific then u go around as a Christian saying its OK to rap or rock or whatever. Your dangling on a fence and soon u will fall over.

I guess that means no country Christian music, CCM soft rock, CCM rap, CCM Rock, and pretty much all Christian music that isn't a song from the bible or in a church hymnal. Why don't we throw all instruments out the window while we're at it?

You can do that if it helps you....there's away to praise God and doing it the way the world "would do it" is wrong.
