Okay, but for example, the man then says in the same statement that the Bible might be wrong sometimes. Of course, if he were to remember that the Christian doctrine says that it is the Word of God, then he won't say such a thing. But immediately, he remembers that the Bible is the Word of God Himself. (Or, he may be reminded by the other Christian). And, he also had accepted the doctrine at first - he just had forgotten it during their argument, and so corrects his statement and apologizes. Does that mean he just committed heresy and he had become a heretic?
To answer your question - no.

The bible is not the word of GOD himself. It is a witness of men of the word of GOD. The bible is a book; the word of GOD is a living being.

Oh... My bad.
So, like just now, did I commit heresy because of my misunderstanding of the Word of God? (although I accept your explanation)

Also, may I ask then, since the Church teaches of 2 different versions of heresy (material heresy and formal heresy), is material heresy still considered a mortal sin?

In other words, if I'm not perfect enough, I'm doomed to Hell?
Well.......... You DO ride a Harley. And we all know, just by the "name" if nothing else, it is only "GoldWings" that will be in Heaven.

(See how that works, CookieMonster? We sometimes let a lot of personality confuse us...... when most of the small details only matter to man.)

Yes...? (I'm not sure if thats an Insta-ban for me, but...)
It certainly isn't. It is a thrill to most of us to see anyone come to the realization that what ANY of us were ingrained with is really little more than "man's" interpretations, and that the Scripture was never meant to be treated that way.

Sorry, but I don't necessarily understand of what you mean by treating the Scripture that way. As in, what way?

I think that is why we are supposed to just preach CHRIST and not add anything to THAT FOUNDATION...
The trouble is in the preaching of CHRIST and the adding to the preaching of CHRIST.

Christ's ministry (right now) is one of reconciling back to THE FATHER (through CHRIST) what belongs to THE FATHER (in CHRIST).

If we keep adding "yeast" (man made additions, ideas, thoughts, suggestions, opinions, notions)then we dilute and pollute the PURE (unadulterated) BREAD of THE TRUTH which is CHRIST and THE MESSAGE of THE CROSS.

We should be very careful in becoming "impressed/puffed up" by things that do NOT add anything to the Story of Mankind's Salvation in, by and through THE SON who came into the world for the salvation of men who would believe in HIM, THE TRUTH...

We all make mistakes. No one's perfect and gets everything right all of the time. WE probably all have believed heretical things at some point. Heretics are those who get the fundamentals wrong and don't repent from their straying. GOD's children are those who grow and shed those things that are not of Christ.
Again you insist on a version of works-righteousness and state it as fact.

How about at least adding in that 'in your opinion'.....?

Because in other opinions, God's children are those that God has adopted into His family, BEFORE and apart from any perceived 'growth or shedding'.

Why are you setting up strange and convoluted hypotheticals in order to trap a non-existant heretic?
Are you seeking to know God, or puncture holes in the faith of Jesus and cause doubt among believers?

*light bulb* ;)

are you Roman Catholic?
Yes, sister, something doesn't set right with this 'to catch a heretic' questioning.

One of the reasons of John's letter in 1John 2, and CHRIST'S forewarning to HIS BODY in Revelation 1-3 is to keep ever before us in remembrance what we began in and not to "go out" from what we began in...

THAT is THE FOUNDATION of OUR FAITH...and THAT FOUNDATION is CHRIST and HIM CRUCIFIED AND RISEN FOR THE JUSTIFICATION of ALL WHO BELIEVE AND TRUST (and do not "go out from) THE TRUTH OF GOD'S SALVATION WHICH IS FOUND IN AND ONLY IN THE SON...

Cookie Monster,
If you are "hungry" go seek HIM for HIM...
That would mean you would have to pray for GOD to teach you and lead you to THE TRUTH and read HIS HOLY WORD...

Concentrate on the New Testament scriptures and pray...

Those who seek shall find, those who ask it shall be given, those who knock THE DOOR shall be opened and HE will come in and "eat" (Fellowship) with you and you with HIM.

And you will learn of HIM...from...HIM...

This is getting off into an area I don't even deal with (Catholicism). I had to look those terms up. So I don't have an answer to your question.

Neither do I understand...
Do the Roman Catholics treat the SCRIPTURE somehow differently?
Are you referring to Peter being the professed "rock" on which CHRIST"S CHURCH would be built?

Both are "material"...both are man made additions added to THE FOUNDATION which is CHRIST...
Anything added to THE TRUTH is altering THE TRUTH.
