[h=1]Matthew 8:15-17 (KJV)[/h] [SUP]15 [/SUP]And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
[SUP]17 [/SUP]That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Imagine if Jesus's words were actually obeyed here. Call someone a fool, they report you to the community, you either apologize or be treated like a pagan. That would stop a lot of arguing overnight.

Since we are instructed to correct each other, it necessarily follows that debate will happen over what is the proper view and what is not. Always the truth is on trial. For instance, some will say we are not to judge, but Jesus told us to judge rightly. Discernment is necessary. It isn't about calling each other fools so much as the misrepresentations that happen, and outright lies.

No doubt but good manners and self control must prevail

I think you have to debate the Gospel to spread it.
How are you going to spread something you have 1000 questions about or something you never learn anything about?
Debating is good. Arguing is a bit of a different story.
One is productive the other isn't

It really depends on what we mean by correction. If I go around insulting people, or I'm outright promoting apostacy to lure people away from Christ, I need correction. If another believer doesn't like my opinion on Hebrew poetry, they can't correct an opinion.

Too often we get spun up over doctrinal points that don't mean a whole lot. Every debate/confrontation must be balanced against the friction it will cause. If the risk outweighs the reward, we should err on the side of unity.

Why can't study and the Holy Spirit's instruction equip us for every good work? There's nothing in the Bible that tells us to practice debating on each other.

Some people have different views on things you may have never even thought off. Debating if done correctly without insults being thrown around and all of that is basically just a discussion.
Discussing the Bible is good.

Here is the thing, my friend. The Word is layer upon layer, line upon line, precept upon precept..What I understand from a certain paragraph can be totally different from what you understand about the same words. It is majorly dependent on where one is in their learning of the Word...We do not all learn at the same rate, we do not have the same starting point. and our views and understanding are, in turn, colored by our experiences before we got saved. Debate then is moot, because we have no real equality of base, for debate.

When did I give you rep?
Eh, I'm giving you an imaginary rep because I gave one to you too recently

This I agree with! Discussion about the Bible is always a good idea! In a spirit of being teachable.

Oh! You're new! Welcome!!

Rep points=Reputation points

Under a person's name it will say "rep power" you gain rep power from people giving you a reputation point (which they do if they like your post)
To give a rep point you click on the star looking thing underneath a post

Nearest I can figure its points people add to you for being a hero. I see you have two. It means when you hit 200 Rep points they issue you a pair of wings and goggles. :D
