Psalm 78
[SUP]12 [/SUP]Marvelous things He did in the sight of their fathers,
In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]He divided the sea and caused them to pass through;
And He made the waters stand up like a heap.
[SUP]14 [/SUP]In the daytime also He led them with the cloud,
And all the night with a light of fire.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]He split the rocks in the wilderness,
And gave them drink in abundance like the depths.
[SUP]16 [/SUP]He also brought streams out of the rock,
And caused waters to run down like rivers.

[SUP]17 [/SUP]But they sinned even more against Him
By rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]And they tested God in their heart
By asking for the food of their fancy.
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Yes, they spoke against God:
They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Behold, He struck the rock,
So that the waters gushed out,
And the streams overflowed.
Can He give bread also?
Can He provide meat for His people?”

[SUP]21 [/SUP]Therefore the Lord heard this and was furious;
So a fire was kindled against Jacob,
And anger also came up against Israel,
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Because they did not believe in God,
And did not trust in His salvation.
[SUP]23 [/SUP]Yet He had commanded the clouds above,
And opened the doors of heaven,
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Had rained down manna on them to eat,
And given them of the bread of heaven.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Men ate angels’ food;
He sent them food to the full.

good job :)

Exodus 24
[h=3][/h][SUP]9 [/SUP]Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, [SUP]10 [/SUP]and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity. [SUP]11 [/SUP]But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank.

Even Abel of Genesis fame plays a part...

and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

lol... I'm thinking this is a joke, but can't tell over the internet so I'll answer as if its not...

I mentioned idolators, etc because Exodus 24 is the beginning of the Golden calf story while Moses went up to get the ten commandments and the people had Aaron cast for them an idol.

it is in Exodus 32... this is what they did while Moses was listening to God:

Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” [SUP]2 [/SUP]And Aaron said to them, “Break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” [SUP]3 [/SUP]So all the people broke off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron. [SUP]4 [/SUP]And he received the gold from their hand, and he fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molded calf.
Then they said, “This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!”
[SUP]5 [/SUP]So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord.” [SUP]6 [/SUP]Then they rose early on the next day, offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And the Lord said to Moses, “Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. [SUP]8 [/SUP]They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, ‘This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!’” [SUP]9 [/SUP]And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people! [SUP]10 [/SUP]Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.”
[SUP]11 [/SUP]Then Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, and said: “Lord, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? [SUP]12 [/SUP]Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and relent from this harm to Your people. [SUP]13 [/SUP]Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven; and all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’”[SUP][a][/SUP] [SUP]14 [/SUP]So the Lord relented from the harm which He said He would do to His people.
[SUP]15 [/SUP]And Moses turned and went down from the mountain, and the two tablets of the Testimony were in his hand. The tablets were written on both sides; on the one side and on the other they were written. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Now the tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God engraved on the tablets.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”
[SUP]18 [/SUP]But he said:
It is not the noise of the shout of victory,
Nor the noise of the cry of defeat,
But the sound of singing I hear.”

[SUP]19 [/SUP]So it was, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. So Moses’ anger became hot, and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. [SUP]20 [/SUP]Then he took the calf which they had made, burned it in the fire, and ground it to powder; and he scattered it on the water and made the children of Israel drink it. [SUP]21 [/SUP]And Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”
[SUP]22 [/SUP]So Aaron said, “Do not let the anger of my lord become hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil. [SUP]23 [/SUP]For they said to me, ‘Make us gods that shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ [SUP]24 [/SUP]And I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out.”
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Now when Moses saw that the people were unrestrained (for Aaron had not restrained them, to their shame among their enemies), [SUP]26 [/SUP]then Moses stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on the Lord’s side—come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. [SUP]27 [/SUP]And he said to them, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let every man put his sword on his side, and go in and out from entrance to entrance throughout the camp, and let every man kill his brother, every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’” [SUP]28 [/SUP]So the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day. [SUP]29 [/SUP]Then Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord, that He may bestow on you a blessing this day, for every man has opposed his son and his brother.”
[SUP]30 [/SUP]Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” [SUP]31 [/SUP]Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! [SUP]32 [/SUP]Yet now, if You will forgive their sin—but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.”
[SUP]33 [/SUP]And the Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. [SUP]34 [/SUP]Now therefore, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, My Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit for punishment, I will visit punishment upon them for their sin.”
[SUP]35 [/SUP]So the Lord plagued the people because of what they did with the calf which Aaron made.
Question for today: Can anyone identify the Christ reference in the above passage?

and what is the theological term for appearances of Jesus in the Old Testament?

Psalm 22
To the choirmaster: according to The Doe of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?
2 O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
and by night, but I find no rest.

3 Yet you are holy,
enthroned on the praisesa of Israel.
4 In you our fathers trusted;
they trusted, and you delivered them.
5 To you they cried and were rescued;
in you they trusted and were not put to shame.

6 But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
7 All who see me mock me;
they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
8 “He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him;
let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”

9 Yet you are he who took me from the womb;
you made me trust you at my mother’s breasts.
10 On you was I cast from my birth,
and from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
11 Be not far from me,
for trouble is near,
and there is none to help.

12 Many bulls encompass me;
strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
13 they open wide their mouths at me,
like a ravening and roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
it is melted within my breast;
15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.

16 For dogs encompass me;
a company of evildoers encircles me;
they have pierced my hands and feetb—
17 I can count all my bones—
they stare and gloat over me;
18 they divide my garments among them,
and for my clothing they cast lots.

19 But you, O LORD, do not be far off!
O you my help, come quickly to my aid!
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
my precious life from the power of the dog!
21 Save me from the mouth of the lion!
You have rescuedc me from the horns of the wild oxen!

22 I will tell of your name to my brothers;
in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!
All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,
and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or abhorred
the affliction of the afflicted,
and he has not hidden his face from him,
but has heard, when he cried to him.

25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation;
my vows I will perform before those who fear him.
26 The afflictedd shall eat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the LORD!
May your hearts live forever!

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
and turn to the LORD,
and all the families of the nations
shall worship before you.
28 For kingship belongs to the LORD,
and he rules over the nations.

29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
before him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
even the one who could not keep himself alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him;
it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
that he has done it.

Psalm 102

1 Hear my prayer, O LORD;
let my cry come to you!
2 Do not hide your face from me
in the day of my distress!
Incline your ear to me;
answer me speedily in the day when I call!

3 For my days pass away like smoke,
and my bones burn like a furnace.
4 My heart is struck down like grass and has withered;
I forget to eat my bread.
5 Because of my loud groaning
my bones cling to my flesh.
6 I am like a desert owl of the wilderness,
like an owla of the waste places;
7 I lie awake;
I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
8 All the day my enemies taunt me;
those who deride me use my name for a curse.
9 For I eat ashes like bread
and mingle tears with my drink,
10 because of your indignation and anger;
for you have taken me up and thrown me down.
11 My days are like an evening shadow;
I wither away like grass.

12 But you, O LORD, are enthroned forever;
you are remembered throughout all generations.
13 You will arise and have pity on Zion;
it is the time to favor her;
the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants hold her stones dear
and have pity on her dust.
15 Nations will fear the name of the LORD,
and all the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
16 For the LORD builds up Zion;
he appears in his glory;
17 he regards the prayer of the destitute
and does not despise their prayer.

18 Let this be recorded for a generation to come,
so that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD:
19 that he looked down from his holy height;
from heaven the LORD looked at the earth,
20 to hear the groans of the prisoners,
to set free those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may declare in Zion the name of the LORD,
and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when peoples gather together,
and kingdoms, to worship the LORD.

23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
he has shortened my days.
24 “O my God,” I say, “take me not away
in the midst of my days—
you whose years endure
throughout all generations!”

25 Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you will remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27 but you are the same, and your years have no end.
28 The children of your servants shall dwell secure;
their offspring shall be established before you.
