Edify-to instruct or benefit, especially morally or spiritually; uplift...to improve the morality, intellect, etc, of, esp by instruction...to build up, establish, or strengthen a person, institution, etc.; to uplift...to inform or enlighten intellectually or spiritually.

Romans 14:19
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

1 Corinthians 14:12
Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

2 Corinthians 12:19
Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.

Ephesians 4:16
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

1 Timothy 1:4
Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Now why was Paul so intent on getting his point of edifying across to the church? Was it because they were acting like a bunch of heathens? Probably.

Ephesians 4:29 seems to be a problem here in the forums. Yes, I have said things that may not have seemed to be edifying, most of the times it is the way I word things. I take responsibility for these things and ask forgiveness of anybody that I have not edified by my words.

We are here to help one another grow spiritually in our walk with Christ. I understand that there are other threads that are created for the purpose of entertainment and fun, not edification, but even there we can instruct, benefit, uplift each other. What I am getting at is we need to lift one another up, enlighten, benefit each other spiritually and morally, and strengthen others where it is needed. Do this all in love, love one another with the love of the LORD! God loves you, Jesus loves you, and I love you! May God bless and keep you all!

Thankyou for these scriptures, I love reading them and living them in Jesus.
Many have seen these scriptures, but , mans nature is what happens sometimes.
Praise God that Jesus lives in us, that He will bring His grace and love to keep us growing in Him!

One hopes that to edify will be embraced in Jesus.
Some one once asked me which plant will you water, the one that brings life, or the plant that destroys .
Let the living waters of Jesus pour out upon the plant that brings life!

Thankyou and God bless. :)

Eph_4:31 Allbitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice.

Rom_14:13 Therefore, let us no longer criticize one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in your brother's way.

What wonderful words this thread gives to live by.

There is scripture that tells us to go along our adversary, I just know I have read it. I can’t find it. Can any of you find some instructions like this?

What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with thim, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? God who justifies? Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died-- more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. NO, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present not the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people and his incomparabley great power for us who believe

That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ form the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. . . .

Man, I wish I could pray that good!

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes form the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

I want to know Christ--YES, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have alread obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Hey, I don't know if anyone else is edified. . .Everytime I think I am through I think of something else. . . sure am edifying myself. . .Greedy, huh? YEP. . . .:)

I wouldn't say adversary, but I believe these are the verses you are referring to:

Matthew 5
[h=3][/h][SUP]38 [/SUP]“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’[SUP][f][/SUP] [SUP]39 [/SUP]But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. [SUP]40 [/SUP]If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. [SUP]41 [/SUP]And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. [SUP]42 [/SUP]Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
