If most Christians believe something, does that make it true?
If most Christians disbelieve something, does that make it false??

My mom use to say...
* God said it
* I believe it
* Therefore its true

I suggested that if God says it then it is true and that it doesn't matter if she believed it or not. Except personally.

People believe things to be true that are not, all the time. And vice versa.

I like the part where you say, "If God says it then it is true."

The truth is true no matter if one believes it our not. You can say you do not believe in the Law of Gravity but what goes up must come down. you can believe that water doesn't burn you at the temp of 212 deg* when boiling at sea level even though the human hand can with stand the temp of up to 115 deg* when your hand is burnt you can deny that it is not burnt
but that would not be true would it?

The Bible tells US that God is not a man that HE should lie, nor is there any shadow of HIM Turning. Christian Believe the Bible is true not because a Christian said it... but Because we Believe God said it.

Reread the bold. Sounds a little bit of a contradiction.:)

Thanks resurrection33. I like the part where when God says it... that it *IS* true!

Well, most of it. Some of the things God says, that are obviously true, I wish weren't.

As this world gains momentum into lawlessness and blatant falsehoods, His truths are all the more precious [to me]. Here again, my participation isn't required nor does it enhance His truthfulness. Makes a huge difference in my life though!

And let me be honest here. There are things that I know to be true in His Word that I still have great trouble believing in regards to myself.

Hey crossnote! Long time lurker, first time poster. You are definitely one of my most trusted sources.

I read what you read first time through, but upon a second glance, I see that CSI is saying... why we believe the bible, not why it is true. A subtle, but significant, distinction.

Blessings.

And upon a third reading, I see it is CS1 and not CSI. Doh.

When I encounter aggressive atheists that say they don't believe in God, I simply smile and tell them that there is one Truth, and their nonbelief does not change the Truth. I always enjoy watching them squirm after that.

Hey Utah. Yeah, I encounter people like that too. If you really want to make them squirm, don't just say "God", but say "Jesus". Not that God isn't a wonderful and accurate name, but there is just something about naming the name of Jesus! These days 'god' can mean just about what anyone wants it to mean. (I'm confident you know all this from reading your posts.)

I have literally had people hiss at me. And not some mere 'boo hiss' thing either. And those devilish eye ball looks. Just an abyss. Death. Blackness. Complete and utter emptiness. Yeesh. I confident that those individuals were possessed.

Honestly, I was *probably* somewhere that I wasn't supposed to be at the time. Thank God he did not remove His hedge of protection. Coulda been really bad. Long time ago, BTW.

Keep up the good fight!

Atheists tend to get facts and truth confused.
Their test for Truth is the same as their test for facts.
The bible has both but they miss the former.

Hello. Sorry to pop in in the middle here.
Just wanted to welcome (re-welcome?) secondtimearound.
This post caught my eye...I have a magnet that says it
slightly different, if I may, :

"God said it, That settles it, I believe it."
Your mom sounds like a wise lady, brother.

I think it was Ravi Zacharius I first heard say,
'Whether or not a person believes something,
is no criteria for determining whether or not it's true'.
That's good stuff! :D

Ya know, that sounds more like what she said than what I wrote. But I think she was quoting it to me out of sequence?

God said it.
I believe it.
That settles it.

The phrase "settles it" really triggered my memory. But it was this other sequence I was being told. Always remembered that as the 'punch line' big finish. I'd love to ask her, but she's been gone for almost 10 years.

Zacharius is a fascinating fella. I must admit that it can be 'work' to follow him sometimes. No ear tickling. More like a punch to head! Spiritually speaking, of course.

Thanks for reminding me of the accurate version.

The "secondtimearound" thing is about this being my second attempt to register. Tried 4-5 months ago and it seemed to work, but I could never reply to any posts. So redid everything this morning and it seemed to 'take'.

And thanks. Praise God that things are settled. Somewhere!

I sincerely hope that everyone will be blessed. And whether or not most Christians believe this... its the truth!
