Hi

At this moment I'm a non church goer!!
I decided a few days ago to download a
Bible App, which up to know I've not
been able to put down, I suppose I should
of started at the beginning, but I didn't. In
the last three days I've read Luke (was this
strange place to start?) some of it went
above my head so to speak.
I understand your wanting not to go to church,I go nearly every week, but not always, because I see church as a place of learning and fellowship, not a requirement, church is only helpful if you feel comfortable and of course you learn something at some point,if you can't feel comfortable in a church or can't quite learn from the church teachings or preachings then it's probably best to leave it and find a new one or a new place of fellowship such as this website,I think of church as a refresher of the spirit too but as many know not every church necessarily has such a spirit to it,like my family church has gone down hill lately as far as know because they feel like failures to God and so have a low spirit.

Hi

Thanks for replying, not sure I'm ready
for that step just yet!!
I would say keep trusting if he has begun the good work of salvation he will finish it to the end .Welcome to the mix.

In the last three days I've read Luke (was thisstrange place to start?) some of it went
above my head so to speak.
I think it is designed to go over our head seeing it comes from His.

I would offer as far as starting it can be anywhere within. Genesis is a great place. It sets the foundation as the good soil needed to increase the good seed ( Christ)

Try and remember that without parables the poetic language of God he spoke not. Hiding the spiritual understanding from natural man .

It is likened to the hidden manna or the pearl of great price (salvation. ) In that way it reconciles the meaning of manna . What is it? It should be foreign to our taste .and should taste like honey coming from the good land of milk and honey .

Milk of the word which is represented by honey teaches us God is gracious .In that way we never outgrow our need of it.

Familiarity perceived is designed to breed contempt and hatred the kind of stuff that causes lukewarmness . Because of wrongly perceived familiarity in regard to the flesh of the Son of man . He came to his own and they received Him not.

Because the word of God comes not from our own thoughts it should cause us to be hot or cold as a way of returning to our first love the manna, as that which gives us the spiritual understanding needed to believe God according to his poetic language.

Hi

Thank for replying. I wasn't sure what that
scripture meant, after some research I'm
assuming poor means humble?

Andy, you say you do not go to church, but do you pray? I would suggest prayer to start your day, and to end. Some people simply say please God, in the morning, and thank you God, at night. The Lord's prayer is what Jesus instructed :) Praying throughout the day to help you face any challenge, as well as before reading Scripture, to help you understand, would also be a good idea, but you do not need to feel like you must force yourself to understand, for it builds on the foundation of Christ, and deepens over time. Becoming a believer turned my whole world and way of thinking upside down :D You have taken a big step! If you spend time alone driving, you my want to find a talk radio station that carries Bible teaching programs. I listen to kari which is also available on computer at kari55.com They have teachings all day long from a wide range of learned men whom I have gathered a great deal from over the years. You may also benefit from watching this movie on the Gospel of John:

IMO reading the word it;sbetter to do it slow and absorb it a bit, rather than fly through it. With that said, it's kind of like a giant puzzle in that, at first some things dont make full sense because its hard to understand "b" if "a" is not already unbderstood. The more you read the word things will fall into place and you will start understand it all.

Pray and focus!

Isayah 34:16, "Search from the book of יהוה, and read: not one of these shall be missing, not one shall be without a mate, for He has commanded my mouth. And His Spirit shall gather them."

Ephesians 6:17, “Take also the helmet of deliverance, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of Yah.”

Hebrews 4:12-13, “For the Word of Yah is living, and working, and sharper than any two-edged sword, cutting through even to the dividing of being and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all are naked and laid bare before the eyes of Him with whom is our account.”

2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your utmost to present yourself approved to Yah, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling the Word of Truth.”

Psalm 119:11, “I have treasured up Your word in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”

1 Peter 1:25, “but the Word of Yah remains forever.” And this is the Word, announced as Good News to you."

Very good, you are a quick study! :) For God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. I spent years as a non believer seeking to understand God in a way that made Him acceptable to me, and finally came to understand that I had it backwards, and needed to see myself in a way that was acceptable to Him: a sinner in need of Him, His love, and the offer of salvation by way of His Son's sacrifice on the cross in payment for my sins, that I might attain to life ever after.

Hi Joefizz

I don't belong to one, not considered one,
never entered my head to go to one.
I'm not at that stage in my life. Just to
put you in the picture I'm sat here taking
to Christians with a beer and a cigarette,
thats where I am, and for some strange
reason this last week I FEEL different,
dont understand why all I know is I found
myself reading the Bible and taking to
God. I didn't ask for this but that's where
i am. I can't talk to my friends my wife
thinks ok but what are you talking about.
My heads all over the place. Hope you can kind of understand?

John/Yahanan 10:16, "And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice. So there will be one flock, one Shepherd (4166 - poimén)."

John/Yahanan 14:6, "Yahshua proclaimed to him: I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father, except through Me."

John 12:26, “26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”

John/Yahanan 7:16-17, "Yahshua answered, them, and said: My doctrine is not Mine, but His Who sent Me. If any man will do His will, he will know about this teaching, whether it comes from YHWH, or whether I am speaking of My own authority."

John/Yahanan 4:25-26, "The woman said to Him; I know that the Messiah comes, and when He comes, He will tell us all things. Yahshua said to her: I am He speaking to you."

One step at a time... How will you know what Church to go to unless you find out through God's Word who His Church is? Seek Jesus through the Word. It is the Word that has power to change your life. This is the first step and as he reveals his Word to you as you pray and seek him, he will guide you as you believe and follow him...

May God bless you friend

I don't wish to be impertinent, but would you consider drinking to be a problem in your life? Has it ever caused you to do things you probably would not have done were you not under the influence? It struck me before I even read this that you may be facing a lonely time in your life as these changes take hold and start re-arranging your priorities. Finding a nice church home, or even other support groups, could be very helpful to you at this time, especially if you are well and truly beginning a new stage of life. Having people to listen to and to likewise listen to you will ease the pangs of transition. I have attended AA and NA for many years, and found it incredibly inspirational. I never would have thought, before I actually did, that I would give up my beer and spliffs :D It all started with me crying out to God for help, before I even ever really believed in God...

Philippians 3:20, “But our citizenship is in heaven, out from which we also eagerly wait for our Ruler, Yahshua Messiah the King.”

Revelation 11:15, “And the seventh messenger sounded, and there came to be loud voices in the heaven, saying, “The reign of this world has become the reign of our Master, and of His Messiah, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

1 Corinthians 12:12-18, "For just as the body is a unity, but yet has many members; and though all its members are many, they are one body: so it is with Messiah. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Yahdaim or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit; For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot should say: Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say: Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the sense of smelling? But now YHWH has set the members, each one of them in the body, as it has pleased Him."

Romans 12:3-5, "For by the unmerited mercy given to me, I say to everyone who is among you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought; but rather, think soberly, in accordance as YHWH has dealt to each one the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members do not have the same function, So we, being many, are one body in Messiah: and each one members, one belonging to another."

Acts 20:28, "Therefore, be on guard for yourselves and the whole flock over which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to feed the called out ones of YHWH, which Yahshua has purchased with His own blood."

Amen Andy.....keep reading and praying and make no mistake....the learning curve will not happen over night.....dig each gem of truth carefully and rejoice when the proverbial "light bulb" goes off.......if you surrender your life to God it may cost you family, friends, jobs, money etc......but in the end the eternal reward, untold 10's of millions of brothers, sisters you will gain in Christ and for sure eternal life will all be worth the effort. I have been on all sides of the track and I can honestly say without reservation that my life is so much richer, fuller and better with God than without him.....give her beans captain and set your face like flint because God loves you migo.

The problem with the KJV is that the language is archaic. It is also misleading. 1611 English is not today's English. For example the Ten Commandments. There is one in KJV that states "Thou shalt not kill." in the NIV it states "You shall not murder." In 1611 kill meant murder.

i like the dont kill. how many wars could have been prevented if the masses stood up and told their greedy corrupt leaders they would not kill and they had to go out and fight their own wars.
