Well a brother would be a believer.

And the word says he chastens and chastizes every son he recieves.

Now what is that about he never chastises believers?
Dearest Popeye, why would God chastise someone for being obedient? You need to start making sense of what you are responding to before you respond.

1 COr 3:1-15

And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. [SUP]2 [/SUP]I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for youwere not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, [SUP]3 [/SUP]for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men? [SUP]4 [/SUP]For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not mere men? [SUP]5 [/SUP]What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. [SUP]6 [/SUP]I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. [SUP]7 [/SUP]So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. [SUP]8 [/SUP]Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. [SUP]9 [/SUP]For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. [SUP]11 [/SUP]For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. [SUP]12 [/SUP]Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, [SUP]13 [/SUP]each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. [SUP]14 [/SUP]If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. [SUP]15 [/SUP]If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

I see nothing regarding salvation or the judgement seat of Jesus Christ in this passage. I see how a minister of the Gospel teaches and preaches the foundation of the gospel will be tested. If a minister teaches on the foundation of Christ he receives a reward, if a Minister teaches on any other foundation but Christ, his work is burned up and he is saved, yet scorched pretty badly.I do not see how this passage deals with the judgement of works after salvation. The context does not bear it.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander.....ALL children of GOD will have either works of Gold, silver and or precious stones based upon faithful service and or works of wood, hay and stubble based upon a lack thereof concerning service....and how would you translate EVERY MAN'S WORK.....especially the word the EVERY........what does Every MAN'S mean?

Just asking....and do you disagree that we will all be judged based upon what we have done and said? AND to WHOM was the point made.....THE CARNAL CORINTHIAN CHURCH.....

What part of the following did you not understand? Why is it that some can read a post and MISS all that is said in the post...I do not base my assurance upon just a tense of a SINGLE VERSE to go on....the following stands alone...not to mention the times I have seen GOD work in my life, answer prayer requests to a t, convict me, whip me, bless me etc..........

1. Verb tense proves eternal life
2. Context proves eternal life
3. The promises of Christ prove eternal life
4. The written word and assurance of it proves eternal life
5. The verbiage given proves eternal life
Dear brother dcontroversal,

We walk by faith. So the word "prove" shows something about your needs and not mine.
I have no problem with security in Jesus. I know Jesus, I need nothing else.

So your shinning the light on Christ is the tense of a verse.
Jesus says we are a city on a hill,

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Matt 5:14.16

Jesus worked in me so I can show love to people I meet, I see a need and serve
those who I can. I used to be blind to this, I could neither feel their pain or know
that I could help. But Jesus changed me deep in my heart.

If as a church we just knew tenses of verses, we would be a poor church.

If on the other hand we are like Jesus described,

"Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
John 13:34-35

Do you know how rich this reality is? It is a spring of life that never stops, a
well that pours out to eternity, a truth that nothing can break.

Grace and Peace to you in Christ Jesus, and Praise the Lord always

Dear dcontroversal, brother in the Lord,

I know about general beliefs of others, I shared about my foundation in the Lord.
In a personal relationship things go beyond a few words written down.
Or are you saying that is all you actually have, the tense of a verse to go on?
You want people to become like you, yet you cannot actually define it?
This is your chance to shine, to be a witness, to tell of the glory of Christ at
work in your heart.

Or is the reality somewhat different? To busy fighting the enemy?

And dear friend, I am not projecting or telling you anything, I am waiting for your
light within to shine through.

Peace and grace to you in Christ Jesus, Amen.
Am I detecting cleverly constructed condescension?

Perhaps not.

Your missing the point and implying something I have not said.....John was clear...these things are written that you may KNOW you have eternal life....your point is moot....and it is not wrong to say what I have said....geesh, can anyone read something without embellishing what is said.....

I believe the 3 "lost" Parables are connected.

The Lord WILL leave the 99 to find and draw back His Child.

I believe the prodigal son NEVER lost his sonship, and it was the Lord that disciplined him, by allowing the enemy to "destroy" his flesh, so that he would be drawn back and go back to the Father.

Very much like my story.
I agree...he was vey much alive and a son through the whole process and only perceived as dead........

Dear brother dcontroversal in the Lord,

greetings to you, and may the Lord grace be upon you.

I am encouraging you to share your heart, but it seems this is too much for you.
What I have shared is my heart, and what the Lord has opened up in my life in
His glorious gospel.

The LORD will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore
Psalm 121:7-8

The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus,
it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God.
Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way;
Isaiah 35:1-3

Those who have nothing to share, are only sharing what their hearts of full of.
Praise the Lord for what He has already done in our lives and what He will complete
in the future, Amen.

Be encouraged brothers and sisters in Christ, the Lord is true to His word, all of it, Amen.

DC does not anyone to become like him, he wants people to become like Jesus.

We all do, we want people to become more like Jesus.

We will do this based on what we believe is the truth.
Yes at times it gets heated and can get personal and we react in ways that we should not. I have at times fallen foul of that.

Who are our enemies?

Matthew 5:44
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

g2190. ἐχθρός echthros; from a primary ἔχθω echthō (to hate); hateful (passively, odious, or actively, hostile); usually as a noun, an adversary (especially Satan): — enemy, foe.

If we disagree, get heated. It does not mean that we are enemies.

We all love Jesus, we all want people to be like Jesus.
We should all love each other just as Jesus loves us.
Just as Jesus commands us.

Peace and grace to all my brothers and sisters, even those I disagree with, even those who have p****D me of.

And for any of you who I have upset and made it personal I ask that you would forgive me.

Your brother in Jesus.

You are certainly welcome to your own private personal interpretation. I do agree we will be judged for what we do and what we say. Paul is not talking about our works being judged at the end of the age here. The context is addressing Corinthians that would follow certain men and not understanding their identity in Christ and their foundation is Jesus Christ, and not Peter, Paul or Apollos. It also says that those men not teaching them to follow Christ will be judged on how they built up the body of Christ[what they teach an preach to people] The passage is not at all warning them the Corinthians that there works would be judged at the end of the age.

[SUP]16 [/SUP]Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? [SUP]17 [/SUP]If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. [SUP]19 [/SUP]For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”; [SUP]20 [/SUP]and again, “The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.” [SUP]21 [/SUP]So then let no one boast in men. For all things belong to you, [SUP]22 [/SUP]whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, [SUP]23 [/SUP]and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God.

So anyone with a sin stronghold is just " safe"

We never try to help him because that would be works.

Kinda bizarre.
Maybe get out of doctrine long enough to help him?
But please do re invent the remedy.
Pssst....the devil is eating his ever loving lunch while you guys assure him " hey,we all sin"
I believe a believer can have a stronghold.
A stronghold that causes them to stumble and stumble.
If a believer has a stronghold yet hates it then to me that's a positive thing (in terms of hating it)
The problem is that most will not admit it.
They fear being judged, condemned.
They are told to shape up and if they do not then they are not saved, or they fear that response.

We all need to be ready to walk the walk and come alongside others and fight the battle with them.
We need spiritual doctors and nurses to tend and nurse the wounded.

Pssst God knows we also sin.
That's why Jesus died and is now interceding for us before God. Even as I write this.

I understand the context just fine bro....and also see it addressed unto the carnal saved as a warning while using an example of both he and Apollos....the foundation is JESUS and WE all build on that foundation...even JESUS speaks to this when he uses the example of building on rock or sand....the end result is the same...we will all be judged by what we do and say, all of our works will be tried by fire...any faithful work will be purified and left by the fire, any work that does not measure up will be torched and burned up yet both are very much saved and will remain as such. There are numerous truths that point to this conclusion concerning all the saved......

I do not believe LLH is here to bring condescension.
Maybe he did not put his point across as intended.

Having spent the last couple of days talking with him on this thread and another one, I see a open and honest person. So far I have seen a gentle and loving heart.
One that is willing to help and encourage but one that is also open to learn.

to know purity as He is pure, to be an example as He is an example.

Paul put it like this

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children
and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5:1-2

You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 1:6

For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example.
2 Thessalonians 3:7

set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12

We are to be lights, real lights, real examples, or is it just make believe, window
dressing, nice to talk about but nothing substantial, that lasts through testing?

My aim is to encourage you in Christ, to know what holds you back, and to press
on deep, dear brother and sisters in Christ, For He is our victory, Amen.

Are some here who claim to be leaders and teachers in the church?
Those who believers should aspire to be like them, respected and honored as men
and women of God. Or is biblical teaching and understanding in this regard so weak?

I can't get my head round it either.

Mark 15:33-34
Jesus Dies on the Cross
33 Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

I love my wife dearly, yet imperfectly.
But on the odd occasion when she has been way overnight, I find it difficult and miss her deeply.

My son started uni a couple of years ago.
We dropped him off. As we left I looked at him as he was walking away. He was looking back and I could see the fear/pain in his face. I kept it together and blew him a kiss and mouthed "I love you my Son"

When I got home I was desolate, I cried and cried. I felt like a part of me had been ripped out.

As I said I love yet imperfectly.
Yet I felt so much pain.

We know God is love, his love is perfect.
The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit are the beginning.
Complete in love.

My God my God why have you forsaken me.
Every time I think about that it pierces my heart.

I think why on earth did you do that for me?

Then I'm reminded

John 19:30
30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Matthew 27:51

51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,

Jeremiah 31:3
3 The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

  1. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
    I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
  2. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
    And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
    The hour I first believed.
  3. Through many dangers, toils and snares,
    I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
  4. The Lord has promised good to me,
    His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
    As long as life endures.
  5. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
    And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
  6. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
    The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
    Will be forever mine.
  7. When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
    Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
    Than when we’d first begun.
Thank you Jesus, even though I don't fully get it.

Sorry everyone, I have digressed.
Couldn't help myself.

We are to be imitators of Jesus.
However I would say we are not to place the imitator on a pedestal.
If we do that then can fall foul of seeking their faith and not our own.
I hope I am an imitator of Jesus.

But if anyone said to me that they wanted to be like me I would say "whoa no, stop right there, I know what I'm like and if you truly knew what I'm like you are going to be so disappointed"

Every person has their own walk with God, and God walks with every person in the way he knows what's best for them.

We need to encourage others to establish their own faith in Jesus.

AMEN...the only example we should measure our "spiritual stick" by....JESUS
