says who? says YOU.
Yes, all who truly believe.
Like YOU?
So as you interpret it obedience comes BEFORE they receive the Spirit?
But He becomes the author of eternal salvation before they obey him, otherwise why do they need to be saved? You are obviously interpreting it wrongly.
but not in everything all the time, otherwise you and I would be lost together.
the ones who don't believe the Scriptures might
says who? says YOU. Nope God and Jesus Himself Mat. 7:22-24
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
"You say to him "Like YOU?"
And I say This is covered too, in 2 Tim. 4:2-4
…2Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and encourage with every form of patient instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. 4So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
I think that tells us plainly that what he is saying is true.
As far as "So as you interpret it obedience comes BEFORE they receive the Spirit?" I agree 100% with you on this point, obedience came after being reborn and filled with His Spirit. Honestly if it worked any other way there would be a "condition" to the gift of salvation. It's this rebirth that produces any kind of good in us, therefore He gets all glory and credit for anything we may do in His name.
When you say "But He becomes the author of eternal salvation before they obey him, otherwise why do they need to be saved? You are obviously interpreting it wrongly."
Well, are you so sure you have all the right answers? You seem very "matter of fact" about it. Is salvation the finish line? That's not been my experience at all. I feel the LORD leads and makes me better every day. I'm excited to grow in Him and He helps me to see, acknowledge, and face the shortcomings and bad behaviors I still have, that I only even notice because of His Spirit and His word, and as I learn more about Him, His design, and my role in all this, I WANT to be made better by my Father, and it's been my experience that once He saved me I have been steady growing and learning by His Spirit, by no will of my own, but that's what I've seen happen in other brothers and sisters as well. We should teach this. IMO of course.
"but not in everything all the time, otherwise you and I would be lost together." Agreed 100%.
"the ones who don't believe the Scriptures might"
Well there are many that do this, what about all the people that think they are saved, think they know what this whole "Christian thang" is, yet are not saved. I was one of these people for years, and I went to a church that did preach truth, but this CHANGE was not ever focused on. This is my biggest fear of this “too soft”, not "complete" view of God, and it’s not a true God, we have to let God be God, we can’t just take the part we like, the part EVERYONE can agree with. God is Truth, and we have to honestly accept all of God for complete truth. How close can you possibly be with half someone?
That God is ONLY love and an being that can be taken lightly. Don't get me wrong I am not talking about only trying to scare people to God, and I understand God's love is infinite, but so is His justice. God cannot let ANY sin just pass Him by. His infinite justice has to be appeased, justice must be served, sin must be punished. The only way God's infinite love, mercy, and justice can come together is on that cross. The Cross where the perfect man, who fulfilled all 10 of Gods commandments completely, then chose to be made sin for us, the spotless blood sacrifice, let men take Him and strip Him as naked as Adam was in the garden, He felt the shame and took is all for Gods glory, and then the real price was paid when He took the full wrath of this just, loving, merciful God. When His Father crushed Him for our transgressions. Man I LOVE our God!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The very God that stopped Abraham's knife that day and told him "I will provide the sacrifice", kept His promise that day 2,000 years ago, and the knife did not stop from coming down on His only Son to make a way to reconcile the rift between man and God made in the fall. This is Truth, this is the God I serve in complete and total love and gratitude, as flawed as it is. Praise our almighty Creator, and Savior Jesus.
