Parable of the Faithful Steward (or the goodman of the house) Matthew 24:45-51 ***Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hat mad ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? (45) ***Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. (46) ***Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. (47) ***But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; (48) ***And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; (49) ***The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, (50) ***And shall cut him asunder, and appoint his his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (51)

[h=3]41 Peter said, “Lord, are You addressing this parable to us [disciples], or to everyone else as well?”

Parable of the Faithful Steward[/h]42 The Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise steward [of the estate], whom his master will put in charge over his household, to give his servants their portion of food at the proper time? 43 Blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is that servant whom his master finds so doing when he arrives. 44 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is taking his time in coming,’ and begins to beat the servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk,46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will [a]cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, and yet did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will be beaten with many lashes [of the whip], 48 but the one who did not know it and did things worthy of a beating, will receive only a few [lashes]. From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

The steward represents the apostles? Because Jesus Christ revealed to them more of the truth than he revealed to the masses...

Parable of the Faithful Steward (goodman of the house) & Parable of the Unfaithful Servant *** Luke 12:39-40 & ***Luke 12:41-48 ***And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. (39) ***Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. (40) ***Then Peter said unto him, Lord speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all? (41) ***And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? (42) ***Blessed us that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. (43) ***Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath. (44) ***But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth him coming: and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken: (45) ***The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware and will cut him sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. (46) *** And that servant, which knew his lord's will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. (47) ***But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. (48)

***Just like there will be different rewards in heaven (I Corinthians 3:12-15)---there will be different levels of punishment****Judas received much from the Lord and then betrayed Him---Jesus said it would be better that he had not been born...

Our works will be tired by fire....some will have works of gold, silver and precious stones...some of wood, hay and stubble....
Jesus said that those who are faithful over a little will be made ruler over much....

Without a doubt there will be great reward for those who are faithful.....and shame for those who are not faithful....

It seems that those who are faithful are given much to be faithful over....the flip side of the coin is as equally true....

In all honesty....there are some things that I am as faithful as one can be.....and then there are areas where I fail every day......

I suppose at the end of the day we all have those "thorns in the flesh" that keep us from exalting ourselves above measure.....

Yes, They held themselves above other mankind. It was a warning. The coming day was Pentecost.

Yes! You are right! They held themselves above others because they were God's chosen people and that means that God will ask and expect from them more than from other people precisely because to them it was entrusted more.

I like what you did here. You read the parables in their historical context and not with a 21 century christian mindset. Altough I don't mind this kind of reading and interpreting of the parables because Jesus Christ is God incarnate and his words are timeless, I prefer the historical reading because in this way, we are brought closer to Jesus Christ. Am I the only one that feels this?

Us being Christians in this current age can easily fall into the same trap of thinking of ourselves as better than others and without humility.

Here are a few questions to go along with the Parable. 1.What are we stewards over today? 2. Why do you think Grace is taught today (which is good) ,but not too much on stewardship (our service before God and man)? 3. Can we stay Saved and begin to smite our fellowservants (vs. 49) and become drunkards (vs 49)? 4. What is the main purpose of this Parable? 5. Who was this Parable written to (Peter's question) (Luke 12:41)? 5. How important is stewardship in today's Church?

***think about the responsibilities the Lord has given you?----I'm not talking about being saved by good works, rather pleasing the Lord by Loving Him and being faithful to the purpose to which He has called you---do you realize by doing this you will avoid smiting the fellowservants and been drunk with the drunkards---even David fell when he was not in battle when he was suppose to...
