[h=1]Psalm 56 King James Version (KJV)[/h]56 Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
2 Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
5 Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
7 Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
9 When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

IMHO:

Ahithophel was the grandfather of Bathsheba. Evidently he had not forgiven David of dishonoring his family & grand daughter. So Ahithophel got vengeance on David.
He advised Absalom to go & do incest-adultery with David's concubines, making a public display of it.
Then he advised a quick strike on David while David was weary & running. His advice was defeated by Hushai, David's friend.
When Athithophel was that his advice was not taken, Ahithophel could see the handwriting on the wall, how David would sucessfully escape & defeat Absalom. So Ahithophel hanged himself.

Shlomo had Adonijah executed by the hatchet man Benaiah because Adonijah requested to marry King David's young chick electric blanket wife (marriage not "consummated") Abishag. Evidently that was like making a claim on the throne.
evidently God wants us to love Him more than anything even ourselves

Yes, basically the Lord owes no one anything & all blessings come from His grace.
However, once God makes promises to someone, He owes it to Himself to be faithful to His Word.
Once He has promised the Christian to be given all things freely, God is obligated to freely give us all things.
Yes, I thought not long after I posted, that only to those He has made a covenant with that He owes them what He promised.
Thanks :)

Many christians believe that it is a sin to pray that God destroy their enemies or in other word to kill them

I am of the view there are times when you must pray against your enemies that God will destroy them from the face of the earth or get them sick etc

What sayesth thou CC ?
It is all over the book of psalms, through most of the Bible, and evident that many people in the Bible, prayed for God to destroy His enemies. When I pray this, it is to destroy the works of the enemies. There are many in power and in positions of power that need to come down because they are harming and oppressing people. These works need to be destroyed. I beleive this is what the Lord is saying here and I believe that is why we are sometimes sent into places and areas, it is because these same enemies want to come against us, which means they are coming against the works of the Lord. Therefore, God wants them out.

I want to give an example which is a testimony. I was in a counseling situation and was counseling some Christians at an outpatient clinic. I was being harrassed from a woman who was jealous and gossipping about me. Apparently she was upset because I was getting many clients. She would stalk me at the office, harrass me, spread rumors about me, and one day she harrassed me in the elevator and almost assaulted me. I just prayed for protection, not for her to be destroyed but to keep her away from me while I was trying to finish my last two months of this job. One day I came into the office, after the harrassment on the elevator and someone told me that her father suddenly died. She was out of work for one month with no salary. By the time she came back, the last week I was there, she started in on the harrassment again, but God got me out quickly and I left without saying goodbye. I also believe judment will come because the work honored her and her work over God's and I beleive that is why the Lord removed me from that working environment. God works in mysterious ways, but you can later see what He did for protection.

I am tempted many times to pray like that. I did many times in my mind. But when the Spirit leads you to repentance, the only thing you can do is fear and obey God.

Romans 1:18-32
[h=3]God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity
[/h][SUP]18 [/SUP]The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, [SUP]19 [/SUP]since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. [SUP]20 [/SUP]For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

[SUP]21 [/SUP]For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. [SUP]22 [/SUP]Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools [SUP]23 [/SUP]and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. [SUP]25 [/SUP]They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

[SUP]26 [/SUP]Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. [SUP]27 [/SUP]In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
[SUP]28 [/SUP]Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. [SUP]29 [/SUP]They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, [SUP]30 [/SUP]slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; [SUP]31 [/SUP]they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. [SUP]32 [/SUP]Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

All plain to them and God made it plain to them. I hope my reply will simply be plain to you. - Many Christians believe that it is a sin. Many Christians I also believe that God has made it plain to them. That's why whatever their beliefs, that's between them and God. What my belief doesn't matter to God. What matters to him is who I am. What my motives in sharing my belief?Am I being an ally or an enemy? Am I producing good fruits or just bearing bitter fruits? What's the purpose of knowing the right and the wrong when we know by heart, we don't love what we give but what we know?

Well, anytime we (my wife and I) are at a dinner and toasts are made, I always toast confusion to the enemies of the work of God.

the Lord says plead the cause of the widows and fatherless I always wonder what that means

What is your view on Ps 109 ?
Psalm 109 is about justice. I read things like this as I was leaving the U.S. I saw nothing but oppression upon those (including me) who had no families. If I tried to help, I was pushed out of jobs, et. I believe this is why God put Obama in charge!

Well I'm not sure its a sin, however it s not of God heart to destroy his creations. And to pray that God will destroy the enemies seems heartless coming from a Christian. God created us and loves us, so way would he want to destroy his creation? However, Sin has destroyed man. So God does not have to do anything. man's evil sin will destroy himself. Yes I agree there are many aspects of evil in the world. and people are easily influenced by the Devil to sin and do these evil things they do. But God loves them just the same as he loves us all. Otherwise it would be a waste of time of sending Jesus to die for the world. Wishing death or destruction on someone is just as bad as revenge. And revenge is sin if you are going against God's word. As he says revenge is mine.

It would be more wise to pray to God about these evil, and for God to put a hinderance or to stop things going ahead before it happens, or pray for a change of heart in these evil people. Rather than to pray to God to destroy them. As much as we may not know, these evil people in the world are our brother's and sisters. So to pray to God to destroy your own family member, do you really think thats wise?

Can this happen today

2 Kings 6:18
17
Then Elisha prayed and said, "O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." And the LORD opened the servant's eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18When they came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, "Strike this people with blindness, I pray." So He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.19Then Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, nor is this the city; follow me and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." And he brought them to Samaria.…

Could a christian use it in spiritual warfare?
