A common question and issue for many is prayer how to pray and how to receive answered prayer. Some do the Lords prayer and recite it others get on their knees to pray others still don't even know how to pray they feel awkward doing it like their talking to air and others still only pray sometimes or when things get rough and mostly ask for things.

But I want to give some insight into prayer as to what is how we should do it and what we should see it as. Prayer itself if I were to describe in different terms I wouldn't call it asking him for stuff or lifting up our issues I would rather describe it as a conversation between us and God. Notice how in a conversation it is called a conversation only when the two ppl are talking to each others not one person talking and the other not listening or responding.

of course God encourages us to bring our problems to him to ask for anything we need but true prayer is when we talk to him as if he is our closest friend, he wants to talk with us about everything about all kinds of subjects about all the details of our life our thoughts our feelings he is literally our diary. He wants us to be able to speak to him as someone we can always go to and trust with our deepest thoughts and feelings and problems knowing that he never looks down on us with judgement never shakes his head in shame or disappointment he even would rather us be angry at him and express that anger to him than to hide it and pretend it isn't there because he sees it regardless he wants you to be able to be brutely honest with him without fearing lightning strikes.

Most people have no idea how happy he becomes from hearing the voice of his child, whenever you speak to him his heart leaps for joy his face brightens and glows he longs to hear from you he craves a deep and intimate relationship with you. You wouldn't think something as simple as speaking to him would make him that happy but I an promise you it does. And when you begin to speak to him like the closest and most trusted friend and when he becomes your dairy and becomes who you know you can confide in without fear or judgement even when you have the most sinful things then you begin to be able to hear back from him, maybe not a voice in your head or an audio voice but you will feel him mending your inner wounds you can sometimes feel a warmth come over you can sometimes feel him wash you with his love and when you think of him you no longer see a face of judgement or him shaking his head in shame or disappointment but a face of warmth of encouragement of love.

Almost the only thing I pray for is souls.
Bind the blind makers, ask Him to open their eyes, send people on their path to share the gospel, loose them from being bound to worldly thinking, open their ears, apply the Blood, claim their salvation, the rest of the list I forgot so for the rest I pray in tongues.
And I ask for a hug sometimes and tell Him I love Him or just listen to worship music and listen to Him.

for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the spirit itself maketh intersession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.................Romans 8:26

I pray for others I pray for myself I talk to him about all kinds of things not just things about him and the bible i relate everything to him. But there are times when my prayers seem to have more.....power to them. Many times I have been overcome with deep compassion and the knowledge that as I speak ppl are dying and worse is that people who are not saved who have never known his love who are heading to the lake of fire are dying. I always burst into tears and I beg God to take my life in exchange even if there is only a .00001 percent chance that they will be saved if I take their place they continue to live longer I will take that chance.

Obviously he n ever took my life but my hopes are that my willingness to sacrifice myself would have been enough for him to save their lives. For all I know my offering of my life could have not saved a single person but on the other hand I may not even realize how many lives were saved and how many souls came to father simply because my deep desire and willingness to take their place. Sometimes pray comes from a very deep and powerful desire from the deepest core of a person

Corrie ten Boom when she was 5 years old simply prayed:
Lord I pray for all the people in this street and the police agents.
Years later when she was 70 people called her and said they got saved. Oh so coincidental, we lived in the same street!

Sometimes I'm so hung up on lists and the right words.

I think any prayer that comes from the heart spontaneously is from the Lord. I like the Brother Lawrence way of praying all the time. This is what the Lord ahs me doing now..I haven't had a so-called scheduled quiet time for a couple of years and yet I am growing in leaps and bounds in knowing Him. It pays to follow the Spirit of God within us.

I do a lot of my praying in tongues with my spirit praying to the Lord and of course I also pray a lot with my mind as well but my spirit has most of my time praying....but there are different seasons for different things it seems...anyway I'm growing and it may be in the future the Lord may have me to spend an allotted time each day in a "quiet time"...I'm open for whatever! His way is the best way as we get to know Him intimately.

I use a prayer journal and art when I pray. It helps keep me focused. Also, by keeping a record of my prayers - I can go back and note when they are answered! Love it!

I just finished reading Fervent by Priscilla Shirer. Love this quote from the book: Prayer is the portal that brings the power of heaven down to earth. It is kryptonite to the enemy and to all his ploys against you!

Hmmm, Christ gave us the outline as to how to pray...

Mat 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

After this manner, or pray like this...

Hallow and glorify God's name.

Pray for His Kingdom to come.

Pray for HIS will to be done in our lives and the work of God.

Ask for our daily needs.

Ask for forgiveness and forgive those who have sinned against us.

Pray for God's guidance to overcome our problems (those things we are tempted by) and deliver us from the evil one (Satan).

Again, the establishment of the Kingdom on earth is very important to God

Glorify His name and recognize who He is and who we are.

Pray in Christ's name...

Joh 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Ya i tried that prayer but it didn't feel right to me it was liking I was reciting a class book it wasn't from my heart or how I speak to him. If I am to speak to him it has to be from my heart and has to be how he and i speak to each other or else it feels fake.

I don't pray nearly as often as I probably ought to. When I do pray, I keep it limited to the areas of peace, grace, mercy or forgiveness.

But you see that's good however he wants to hear from your heart what you really want to say how you really feel he wants to hear about your day to hear your struggles your tears he wants to hear about that thing that made you lol he wants to hear about every detail. to make a deeper connection with him to form a deeper and more intimate bond a kind of relationship like what I am speaking of will make leaps and bounds in your building a deeper and stronger bond and connection with him

Praying is supposed to be constant in the believers life. We have just been programmed that it is before meals, before a sermon, when someone needs specific prayer or at bedtime.

Being a christian is a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe. Every moment should be in prayer............recalling and applying the mind of Christ in EVERY circumstance in life. Nothing wrong with praying before a meal, specifically for a person or getting on our knees.............But we should constantly be recalling doctrine and applying it in every situation in life...........praying or having a relationship with the person who saved us......The Lord Jesus Christ.

My guess is you pray more than you think you do. We are just programmed and taught in this world that it is "Just at certain times" or "we have to be on our knees" or "we have to be emotional"........

This is an interesting statement. I'll have to mull it over and see if you're right. I've never considered that I might be in communication with God more than I am based on how I perceive that communication taking place. Yes, quite interesting. Thanks for provoking me to think.

Lost Sheep....I understand when you say that you don't pray as often as you should....it hits home with me also. I stand guilty on that count. However, I do not box myself in and limit anything when it comes to speaking to my Father. I think the reason is that I now teach in a private catholic school. We are told to pray, and encourage it with my students. That sounds fantastic..however..the drawback is: When a child or teacher is asked to pray for an upcoming class or event, the prayer has to be written down, reviewed and approved ahead of time. This seems so un-natural and completely against everything that I have been raised by. Even when the teachers meet for our own private business plannings, our prayers have to be typed out and read aloud as a team. There are posted prayers from time to time all over the school of some dead person and we are told to use those prayers next time we pray to reflect, ponder and be made aware of certain seasons, needs, etc. I never see anywhere in my BIBLE that prayer, prayer time, and communication with GOD has to be practiced, rehearsed, written down and read when the time comes to pray...makes NO sense to me.....I need someone to explain this to me.

I get where your coming from, having to pray a kind of rehearsed type of praying feels un natural fake theres no connection with God when you do it because it's not really you it's you praying about what your told to pray.
Not to mention if your heart isn't in it then then it's like a stale taste or a fake feeling, it's not that you don't care about what your praying about it's just that it's need to be from your own words your own heart and needs to be on your time and God's not the people who are giving this to you

Thank you, Blain...you actually explained it back to me much better than I did myself....two heads are always better than one..especially when both are in CHRIST.

That was the first prayer I prayed in my 24 years on this earth. And yes, it was from my heart, and yes, the rest of that day I was walking on cloud nine. Oct 31st, 1973.
