Ways to pray:

1. Pray the bible. Interact with God as you read the scriptures.
2. Pray for everyone you come across today.
3. Be quiet in His presence and receive Jesus' prayers for you.
4. Worship the Lord - praise His attributes.
5. Draw a prayer for someone else.
6. Draw a prayer for yourself.
7. Sing your prayer.
8. Pray in the Spirit.
9. Pray with just your hands and body expressing what you are feeling.
10. Pray in a different position.
11. Pour your heart out before Him. All your feelings about everything - bad and good.
12. Intercede for who the Holy Spirit puts on your heart.
13. Be still and allow the Lord to give you a prayer assignment.
14. Just listen for what the thoughts He wants to give you personally.
15. Take a walk and give thanks for the beauty you see around you.
16. Give thanks for His abundance.

Just a few ways. Add to it.
.

I dunno if this can be considered prayer, but I don't really "talk to myself" in my head any more. Most of it is knowing God is there with me listening and I typically talk directly to God for most of my waking hours. As far as the more formal reverent prayer where I get on my knees and spend time in submission to God, I don't do this nearly as much as I ought to or as much as I used to.

During these reverent prayer times, I really get carried away and pray for things that typically wouldn't come to mind and when I see the most prayers answered. These are also the times I pray more akin to the instructions of the Lord's prayer, and much of this type of prayer is spent in worship rather than idle conversation with God or asking for a lot of stuff for myself, but usually for others and usually more in compliance with his will. I feel this is because this type of prayer time for me is guided by him and he gives me the words to say.

I know he hears me both ways, but he is more glorified in submissive reverence when I am on my knees and more tuned in to his voice.

I love to pray :)
But you know I was just thinking, how most of us even pray in our sub conscience when we don't realize it.
It's beautiful really....
For example.....your friend Bob may be very sick and he crosses your mind while doing dishes,...well your heart already cares for Bob to be well, so God hears prayers before we can say them.

And the equally good news is that He is talking to you back in a way that is special between the both of you. He loves being with you. He knows your heart. He loves the way you interact with Him as you grow in knowing Him and His fierce love for you

This is an interesting statement. I'll have to mull it over and see if you're right. I've never considered that I might be in communication with God more than I am based on how I perceive that communication taking place. Yes, quite interesting. Thanks for provoking me to think.

I just watched the War Room movie last night. It's a powerful movie and I'd recommend everyone to watch it.

It made me realize that I haven't used prayer as often and as effectively as I can be. I believe if every person of faith used prayer as the old lady in the movie, we'd see revival happening in our world.

I pray for others I pray for myself I talk to him about all kinds of things not just things about him and the bible i relate everything to him. But there are times when my prayers seem to have more.....power to them. Many times I have been overcome with deep compassion and the knowledge that as I speak ppl are dying and worse is that people who are not saved who have never known his love who are heading to the lake of fire are dying. I always burst into tears and I beg God to take my life in exchange even if there is only a .00001 percent chance that they will be saved if I take their place they continue to live longer I will take that chance.

Obviously he n ever took my life but my hopes are that my willingness to sacrifice myself would have been enough for him to save their lives. For all I know my offering of my life could have not saved a single person but on the other hand I may not even realize how many lives were saved and how many souls came to father simply because my deep desire and willingness to take their place. Sometimes pray comes from a very deep and powerful desire from the deepest core of a person
I am responding with a great desire to know how this works for you. I know enough about your home life to know that as of last summer one person in your home isn't listening to God, one person is seriously sick, and you maybe even sicker. So you pray with urgency. Has anything changed?

Ya i tried that prayer but it didn't feel right to me it was liking I was reciting a class book it wasn't from my heart or how I speak to him. If I am to speak to him it has to be from my heart and has to be how he and i speak to each other or else it feels fake.
It is not a prayer, it is an outline. It covers the subjects one should pray about and how they should pray.

I think the bible is clear that praying is a full- time occupation :)

So that means that although it can be good to have a nice, long, calm chat (and to listen) when that is possible,
God also hears our "oh, and can you help Jack?" as we grab the car keys and run for the meeting we are late for :)

- pray continually
- As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.

There is also a kind of prayer that is without words. sometimes I want to say what my heart feels to him but I just don't have the words either because i just can't think of it or what I feel in my heart words just can't express, it's in those times I allow my heart to speak for me he reads our hearts all day everyday he hears and understands our groaning and our feelings that are unspeakable with words a language of the hearts is what I call it.

our hearts say what our lips cannot they can reach what our arms cannot they can see what our eyes cannot and can hear what our ears cannot, this is how God speaks to me the most as well, a voice with no sound words that reach deeper and pierce the heart in a way that normally wouldn't be. It can be a deep desire or a deep feeling within your heart so deep that no word within the human language can describe and your heart will speak for you.

God, Who gave you life, wants you to talk to Him, but you may not know how, or what to say. Here is a simple fill-in-the blank to get you started…

ADDRESS GOD- acknowledge that this prayer is to God alone.
PRAISE- give God a compliment.
HELP- tell Him why you need Him.
OTHERS- tell Him why others need Him.
FORGIVE- ask for forgiveness for self and others.
THANK- thank God for at least one of the many ways He has blessed you.
CHRIST’S NAME- although it is unnecessary to state that everything you do and say as a Christian is in Christ’s name, saying it at the end of prayer lets others know that the only way you or your words get to the Father is through Jesus Christ- without Whom we can do no good.
AMEN- confidence- let it be indeed! When you say ‘amen’ you exclaim that you have examined and agree that the fulfillment of your prayer will bring about God’s Will- not your own (unless of course your will matches His Will). And you agree to do whatever you can on your part to promote those results- even if all you can do is to pray.

Address, Praise, Help, Others, Forgive, Thank, Christ's Name, Amen.

A common question and issue for many is prayer how to pray and how to receive answered prayer. Some do the Lords prayer and recite it others get on their knees to pray others still don't even know how to pray they feel awkward doing it like their talking to air and others still only pray sometimes or when things get rough and mostly ask for things.

But I want to give some insight into prayer as to what is how we should do it and what we should see it as. Prayer itself if I were to describe in different terms I wouldn't call it asking him for stuff or lifting up our issues I would rather describe it as a conversation between us and God. Notice how in a conversation it is called a conversation only when the two ppl are talking to each others not one person talking and the other not listening or responding.

of course God encourages us to bring our problems to him to ask for anything we need but true prayer is when we talk to him as if he is our closest friend, he wants to talk with us about everything about all kinds of subjects about all the details of our life our thoughts our feelings he is literally our diary. He wants us to be able to speak to him as someone we can always go to and trust with our deepest thoughts and feelings and problems knowing that he never looks down on us with judgement never shakes his head in shame or disappointment he even would rather us be angry at him and express that anger to him than to hide it and pretend it isn't there because he sees it regardless he wants you to be able to be brutely honest with him without fearing lightning strikes.

Most people have no idea how happy he becomes from hearing the voice of his child, whenever you speak to him his heart leaps for joy his face brightens and glows he longs to hear from you he craves a deep and intimate relationship with you. You wouldn't think something as simple as speaking to him would make him that happy but I an promise you it does. And when you begin to speak to him like the closest and most trusted friend and when he becomes your dairy and becomes who you know you can confide in without fear or judgement even when you have the most sinful things then you begin to be able to hear back from him, maybe not a voice in your head or an audio voice but you will feel him mending your inner wounds you can sometimes feel a warmth come over you can sometimes feel him wash you with his love and when you think of him you no longer see a face of judgement or him shaking his head in shame or disappointment but a face of warmth of encouragement of love.
You are so very wise grasshopper :) You are absolutely right, 100%. God's deal with Adam was I'll walk with you, talk with you, lend you an ear and offer advice - but what you say, Adam, that's what goes. It was very much a friendship-oriented relationship, with God giving us the authority and providing us mentorship and guidance in using it. That was lost in the fall, but restored by Christ - and is available now thru the Holy Spirit. Every word, every thought is part of your life's prayer, in this life's effort to import the Kingdom of God into this world. He hears every single one, after all, so why not make every single one in some way offered to Him?

That is prayer bringing God's world into ours. But there's also prayer that transports our world into His. This is more concerted prayer, dedicated to the purpose of our approaching His Throne. Following Jesus' example, one starts by praising Him, and thanking Him for the things He's granted us, including and especially the ability to bring our world into His presence. I often thank Him for the Blood of His Son, the only means by which I am able to come before Him. I ask Him to cleanse me, to purify and wash me, and not just me but the place(s) I occupy, confessing my wrongs and forgiving others, and in that being freed of them and removing barriers I bring to the table. I ask for strength, guidance, wisdom, and all those things I'm not wise enough to even know of. I might even do some silencing and casting out of things at this point. I find this point to be one of strength, and one where the enemy is not as willing to hang on. They don't like being dragged before God's Throne, after all. And that's the first half to this kind of prayer, cleansing and purifying yourself and your space, to uplift and bring it before the Throne.

Then it's needs. Lay yours at His feet. Lay your friends before Him. Lift up situations to Him. Pray in the Spirit, that you may speak and intercede in and to mysteries you know nothing about. Don't be shy, He knows all this stuff from your daily walks anyway. This is your chance to confirm these things in the environment of His Throne, instead of the environment of this world.

Then, thank Him. Thank Him for allowing you to come to Him, thank Him for listening, thank Him for answers to previous prayers and thank Him for expectations of His answer(s) to this one. It's a whole 'nother subject, but whether and how we thank Him DOES have a bearing on our receiving His answers. Then thank Him most of all, and seal it, by confessing the Name of His Son, sacrificed to give us the place to do and seek and ask all these things.

Matthew 6:9

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Every thought we have, every word we speak, everything we do is heard and seen by God. He walks with us in this world and thus our entire lives are our prayer to Him. But there are times we need to specifically enter His world, and there is specific prayer for that as well. May they both be on our hearts and lips always!

So, praying the way Christ instructs us to doesn't feel right to you? Might explain a lot.

I doubt the Lords Prayer was intended to be recited
it seems more to be a blueprint / skeleton prayer , to show us what to focus on

What I said in my previous post...

Hmmm, Christ gave us the outline as to how to pray...

Mat 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

After this manner, or pray like this...

Hallow and glorify God's name.

Pray for His Kingdom to come.

Pray for HIS will to be done in our lives and the work of God.

Ask for our daily needs.

Ask for forgiveness and forgive those who have sinned against us.

Pray for God's guidance to overcome our problems (those things we are tempted by) and deliver us from the evil one (Satan).

Again, the establishment of the Kingdom on earth is very important to God

Glorify His name and recognize who He is and who we are.

Pray in Christ's name...

Joh 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Prayer is not something that you are supposed to recite over and over, there is nothing wrong with praying how Jesus showed us but as some said here it's more of a guideline. I mean do you say the same things over and over to him? Do you not speak what is on your heart?
and what does me not reciting the Lords prayer explain exactly? If you have something to say to me then please speak I get the feeling you meant something by those words
