I have just started reading my bible and have found a few verses that confuse me. 1 Corinthians 7:12-14 says:
To the rest I say this: If any brotherhas a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him , he must not divorce her. 13 And if a womanhas a husband who is not a believerand he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14 for the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.

I understand the concept of sanctity and that by being married to a believer, the spouse is closer to God. But what do these verses say about children? That if parents divorce the children are the same as children born out of wedlock?
Any guidance or clarification would be most helpful

The children would still be sanctified through the believing parent

What he said.

You have to understand the spiritual connection established by "two who make one". If one spouse is covered by the Blood of Christ, then their progeny are of the same bloodline.

Ok, just to make sure I have it straight. If one parent believes, then the children are sanctified. But sanctification simply means being closer to God and not Salvation.

Genesis 2:24That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

Matthew 12:25
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.

Matthew 19:9
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Job 2:9
His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”

God's children cannot divorce (They only suppose to stay righteous by not judging and which a person is when they make their final decision of handling the situation), but the others can do what they please.

Sanctified means being set apart, cleansed and considered holy by GOD.

Both the unbelieving spouse and children are sanctified (set apart for God) in that they are in a unique category as the believing spouse provides a positive spiritual influence for them, e.g. teaching them God's word, which may bring them to Christ.

Being sanctified means being set apart for God and considered by Him to be Holy. This does give them an advantage in todays sin-riddled world. But they will still have to make a personal decision to accept Christ's sacrifice to achieve salvation.

Children of believing Christians are blessed and sanctified. The Bible states this, lest your children be unclean.
